She looks lovely in that color. But I am sorry I don't like the outfit for an official engagement. The top is quite informal for the occasion, this looks like something she would wear while out privately, not for an official working engagement.I guess she is trying something new.The jewelry is nice but it looks like something to be worn at an evening reception or gala (no?). .. And her hair....it could be better...
On a more pleasant note, I positively love her smile:)

Hmm ... This is more than just a coincidence now! Three princesses from three different countries at three different events sporting deep purple -- not eve lilac!
Royal memo or mass e-mail to all the royal ladies: Put on your best dark purple outfit today when you head out for those royal duties?! :p

Obiously the memo about the hair only reached Claire and Letizia. :p
Maxima should get a new hairstylist because if some hairdresser worked hard on todays hairdo its not very impressing work. I would like Maxima to cut of atleast half of it and colour it to a colour more like her natural colour, because then she does not have to worry about the dark root showing all the time.
Purple is a good colour on her though.

I'm thinking that perhaps the hair came loose.

How Maxima Holds her Daughter.
Everyone seems to be assuming that because Maxima is holding her daughter facing away from her, she is holding her "wrong." Some babies like to be facing away. This way they can see what is going on around them. If little Catherine is a curious child like many children I have been around, she may prefer being held this way. Particuarly in public situations where there is a great deal going on around her. My nephew will have a fit if I or his mother try to hold him facing us when we are around new things. Personally, I believe this is what the case is with Maxima.
Or maybe the cameraman caught her just as she was shifting her baby in her arms, making an awkward looking photo.
Just my 2 cents.

Purple is the "in" color for fall and these ladies are just showing their stylishness. Bravo to them all. :)

Interesting statement. Her outfit is nice, but she looks like she puts on some weight, so any weight gain would be negative and her outfit couldn't look as nice at it is because she put on weight? Give me a break.

Interesting statement. I post a small remark (not even negative) about her weight, and people all of a sudden become over sensative and start reading things I didn't write. Give me a break.

I am not inclined to read it any other way. If that isn't what you meant, then fine. I didn't become over sensitive. But, I am sensitive. I work with teenagers and young women in my spare time who have eating disorders and most of them have admitted that it was comments like this made by someone they knew or related to them that caused them to think that they were fat and in some cases grotesque. The group has affectionately termed them "half compliments." Everyting sounds great until you get that "but."
The "but" after your statement about Maxima's outfit would lead any resonable person to believe that you believe her attire to be nice. However, you then give a positive statement and then end with a negative one. The world "but" is hardly used to add or contrast anything positive. You followed with the statement that she looks like she's gained some weight, preceded by "but" which clearly indicates a negative.

I'm in Catherine's side. What's the problem saying that Maxima is fat? You cannot say "How slim and elegant she is" if you don't think this way.
I didn't agree if someone says "Máxima is the uggliest of all princess" because beauty is a very subjective matter, but this is different. She can be fat and nice at the same time.
Isabel, if you work with teenagers with eating disorders you should know that their problems are not really the weight but other problems: violence in home, absent parents, etc. The eating disorders are a consequence of this factors, it's proved that it has nothing to do with weight. I know many fat persons who are happy.
