I'm glad about the news, but not surprised. However, I am disappointed over Maxima's "apparent" behavior of throwing a hissy fit because the media stole her thunder over the pregnancy announcement. It looked very immature and very inappropriate.

article from Hello:

Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his Argentine-born wife Maxima have more reason than ever to celebrate this holiday season. It was announced on Tuesday that the couple are expecting their second child.

The endearing statement, issued in the name of the couple's first child, one-year-old daughter Princess Catharina-Amalia, stated: "I'm really glad I can say to you all that I will expect a baby brother or sister by mid-July 2005."

The new arrival will be third in line behind her sibling and the Crown Prince.

In recent weeks speculation had beem running high in the Dutch media that Maxima was pregnant, providing a happier note in a difficult year. The Dutch royals mourned the deaths of two beloved members of the family in 2004. Queen Juliana passed away in March at the age of 94, while her husband Bernhard passed away later in the year aged 93.

I think that this second child will be born in june . Like 25-6-05 . It was also with Amalia . They said that the baby would be born in January , but she came a month earlier . And she was perfect healty . This was also done in Belgium . They told that Elisabeth would be born around november 15 , and she came on october 25 . Gabriel was for september , he was born on august 20 . So it wouldn't suprise me if this baby would be born in june ! I think it is a baby girl , but i hope for a boy !

I mean I'd be angry too if my grandfather died recently & someone announced my pregancy before my 13 week period without my permission while my family was still in mouring! I mean really how would you feel?
I couldn't say it better, Angel!

And congrats to the couple, along with all the Dutch people! :)

I've been gone the last few days so I missed all the news. :( Congrats to them.

I would have to think there would be more reason than simply being upset that the news had been leaked for them to cancel the press conference. I mean, that is a pretty silly and petty thing to get upset about, especially considering that they would have to let the information out anyway, right? I think there has to be more behind it....but then again, I am all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, so they really could of just had a hissy fit.
