Oi!There's a fashion thread for that gals...

------------------

HRH,Patron, visited two projects of the Orange Fund Grow scheme today,
first one was the Autisme cafe of the Oval Foundation in Leiden,a meeting place for parents of authistic children.

Next stop was the " Best Buddies Nederland " project in Spijkenisse.
The project aims at connecting people with and without mental disabilities in a friendship relation.

I am pleased to see CP Maxima getting involved in causes that promote awareness of autism. It is autism awareness month in the US. Is it observed in the Netherlands also?

Glad to hear that! I love when Princess Máxima visit this kind of projects related with disabled people. I say this because IMO the Princess never connects with people using that kind of attitude "oh poor you! You suffer so much for much!..." but she's always full of energy, enthusiastic and giving a big smile to everyone. That's one of the reasons Máxima is a special princess.

Yes it started with april 2nd being World Autism Awareness Day,and there are many tv + radio programs on the subject this month.
In that frame, she picked this particular project out of many others to draw attention, and respect, for the authistic and all those involved.
She generates so much attention for the causes she holds high through,ao,the Orange Fund, she truly is extraordinary.Bless her.

Aren't these causes originally part of the Juliana Welzijns Fund, that merged with several other royal funds into the Orange fund?

I'm glad to hear the this issue is receiving attention throughout Europe too. As a parent of a child with an ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), I can attest that early intervention can truly make a tremendous difference in a child's future. My son is considered to be high functioning and has been receiving schooling, speech-language therapy, socialization classes, occupational therapy, and physical therapy since his third birthday. (This was shortly after his diagnosis.) Today he is seven and in the first grade. He is mainstreamed into a regular education room without an aide. He still receives speech-language services, socialization and occupational therapy. He is involved in Cub Scouts and gymnastics too.

Thanks for sharing your story, TLLK. Royal visits are often quickly reduced to hairstyle and fashion on these forums (as we only get to see some pictures), but we forget that behind these visits and causes are real stories like yours. I am glad that your son is doing so well (and relatively quickly)!

You are very welcome Marengo. I'm more than happy to share this information in the hope that it might help someone to seek a screening for a child.

That is what happens isn't it,people recognise situations and besides feeling less lonely in it as stories are shared,
they also find the guts and energy to continue to fight/care.And all that because of stories like yours.

A few syllables can make, and do make, all the difference for the better at many occasions. You're great in being so open,
and I'm sure you are not the only visitor here who's familiar with the issue but hasn't found the ability yet to talk on the subject.

Go on TLLK,we give you a shoulder, give your son a hug from us!

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and The Oranje Fonds

HRH visited the volunteers organisation for former prisoners and the Exodus Foundation.
The Prince,Co-Patron of the Orange Fund, was invited by the Fund to visit the projects sponsored by the Orange Fund.

The Prince had talks with volunteers, the directors of the institutions as well as with prisoners.

Both organisations aim at the resocialisation of former prisoners.

HRH,Co-Patron of the Orange Fund, will visit two organisations that work with/for the disadnantaged children, the Star Foundation and the Two Get There Foundation, next week october 28th.Both organisations participate in the stimulus program of the Orange Fund.

The Star Foundations organises holiday weeks for children who are rather vulnerable, too shy to fully take part in socialising.
They are offered weeks where friendship and fun is central and receive special training in order to be better protected against bullying while it also improves their success in school.

The Two Get There foundation focusses on vulnerable children with stimulating their talents while they discover all kinds of artforms like music, theater and painting/sculpting,that sort of thing, thus enhancing the kids chances not to drop out of the social structure.

I think they're both very important initiatives.

It will be a extremely busy week for the Princess as monday sees Her in New Dehli at the Microfinance India Summit, returning home immediatly to open the Culturalis Theater in The Hague on tuesday, visiting the two organisations mentioned above on wednesday while wednesday evening sees HRH ,and hubby Alexander,Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, accompanying HM The Queen to the opening performance of the Hollands Dance Festival by the 50 year old Nederlands Dans Theater.

After which all get set and prepared for the State Visit to Mexico the week after.

Today the Princess visited the Books of Life project, the project by volunteers in The Hague, won a Apple of Orange last year and HRH went to see how things are as she has a keen interest in many things, including projects funded by the Orange Fund of which both she and her husband are Co-Patron.

The project is just wonderfull.Volunteers help the elderly to write the story of their life.Often a very moving experience.
