About an hour ago the king received the PM at Palace Huis ten Bosch. The PM, who rode his bike from The Hague's city center to the palace, went to the king to resign. The cabinet decided to resign (but will continue with a 'demissionair' status until the elections in May) because of what is known as the 'benefits affair' (parents were treated as serious fraudsters after either they made a small mistake or their daycare center duped them). Only one minister - most directly involved in his role in the former coalition - resigned completely.

Today, January 20, King Willem-Alexander has sworn in Bas van 't Wout as Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy at Noordeinde Palace:

Why o why is the majority not wearing their face masks? The king, however, is, except for when he is seated. Not sure why the thought is that you are immune to the virus when seated.

In Germany it is requested to wear a face mask "if you cannot safely keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from others in public spaces", I can imagine it's similar in the Netherlands. They may feel keeping the 1.5 meters distance only is enough and in accordance with the rules. But I share your sentiments.

Today is Warm Sweater Day. Jonah and Julia knit a sweater for the King Willem Alexander. He received the jersey in last Sunday's broadcast of Zapp Your Planet. The King also thanked the makers of the sweater in a video conversation. ⠀

This afternoon, King Willem-Alexander opened the year of Brabants Kloosterleven. He did this in a live broadcast from the 650-year-old monastery of Saint Agatha. 2021 has been declared the Brabant Monastic Year because 4 monastic orders are celebrating their anniversary

King Willem-Alexander visited today the Montaigne Lyceum in the Ypenburg district in The Hague.
The King was informed by the teachers and students about the effects of the corona pandemic and the lockdown on secondary education.

he didn't try to run away... he went for a holiday, and should not have done so.. but that's hrdly "running away".....

It is interesting that the King received the group at Huis ten Bosch, his private home and not at Noordeinde Palace, his official residence. Maybe Noordeinde Palace is without staff and therefore largely empty, as the Government requests anyone to work from home where possible.
