And this evening King Willem-Alexander visited the Marktweg in Den Haag that has won a prize as the most beautiful Oranje street in the Netherlands. „The street received the price at a campaign to increase the sense of togetherness in the street during the European Football Championship“:

If I was the King, I would order to have the side panels removed and just use the coach "naked" alike in Denmark:

Golden State Coach Denmark: https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016...2088815833.jpg

Golden State Coach Netherlands: https://www.volkskrant.nl/nieuws-ach.../#&gid=1&pid=1

The King had it restored to the year of creation: 1898. Then the Netherlands had massive "dominions overseas" and this pride in the colonial empire was illustrated on the Golden State Coach.

How much I absolutely do despise "woke-ness", it is not wise that the King travels in a Coach which does now stir up an eternal debate.

Remove the panels, use naked gold or paint it with the same side panels as the Glass State Coach: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sOda8wDQR...2015%2B004.jpg

Nah, just keep the Golden Coach as it is and let it stay in a museum. The Glass Coach is much more beautiful. The Golden is, in my opinion, hideous and overdone.

The problem is: the coach has not been restored for a museum, it is completely renovated -for lots of the King's money- and modernized for safe usage by the Royal House.

I also like the Glass State Coach more (it also has more Orange-Nassau history) but the Golden State Coach is a fabulous Gesamtkunstwerk and it would be a shame never to see it again.

Just remove the side panels, have a master-painter to paint the royal arms on it and go with that spectacle.

When asked, the minister of Medical Care (mildly) criticized the king for not respecting the 1,5 m distance and for shaking hands yesterday evening when he visited the most orange street. She tried to not be to harsh by saying that these things happen but that everyone should respect the Covid regulations, try to give a good example and call others out when they don't.

Minister Grapperhaus (Justice) also said that the rules also apply to the king. Not that the minister is in a strong position to critisize as he organised a wedding during COVID times, where people were seen hugging, kissing etc.

The faux-pas is not surprising of course, considering the relaxed attitude of the government towards their own sanitary rules.

It would have been impossible for the King to keep 1,5 metres because of the enthusiasm and the warmth with which the residents engulfed him.

It wasn't too hard to take that in consideration when deciding to go there; and shaking hands could have been avoided.

The Government has already announced to lift the rules very soon, it is all mustard after the meal, as is the Dutch saying.

The government is stressing that keeping 1,5 m distance remains very important - especially when other measures are lifted.

And of course the prime minister was asked about it as well. He stated that is wasn't right what the king did yesterday but said it wasn't comparable to his holiday in Greece last October (it's not surprising that an event like this triggers that to come up in the conversations again). According to him, they tried their best but their was just too much enthusiasm and he stressed people should not make a big deal out of it. He also added that the king himself is unhappy about it (the Dutch expression he used is close to 'the king also thinks it sucks').

This was a volksbuurt, a folksy neighbourhood, enthusiast with the King visiting their unbelievably orange street on a fabulous summer day. And Oranje, the Netherlands team, again won their match on the European Football Championships. The atmosphere was carnivalesque, loose, relaxed and yes, okay, we are all human, the King included.
