Today, November 28, King Willem-Alexander made a working visit to Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman, a multi-function support ship for amphibious operations of the Dutch and German Navy. The ship had returned home after providing hurricane emergency assistance in the Caribbean.

I really like he King's study at Noordeinde. It is the oldest 16th C part of the palace (called "the brown quartier" after the wooden panelling). Originally the silk wallhangings were red, but after the restoration in the 1980's the colour was changed in crème, to create a nice contrast with the wood.

Today, February 5, King Willem-Alexander received the current chairman of the Federal Council of Germany Michael Müller at Palace Noordeinde:

Apparently mr. Müller is also the mayor of Berlin. According to royalblog, the Bundesrat has a new chairman every year. Since the year 2000 it is customary for this chairman to bring a visit to The Netherlands, due to the close ties between the countries. The king started to visit a German federal state each year for the very same reason.

(Oder of precedence in Germany: Federal President, President of the Bundesrat, President of the Bundestag, Federal Chancellor, so Mrs. Merkel is, in fact, number four in the country.) That gives the official visit a little extra, I think.
