Maybe because of her father's birthday today Victoria and Daniel went back to sweden earlier.
It is to be expected of course, Its King Carl Gustaf 67th birthday, I'm sure Victoria wants to be part of her father birthday celebration as well. The most important event of the day just ended, tonight festivities are just to have fun, so its reasonable that she left after the reception.

What a beautiful ceremony. I couldn't help but think Stephanie reminded me of QEII's cousin Princess Alexandra in the group photo.

I arrived "too late at the feast ". Just managed to seize some snatched moments and it looks as if it has been a wonderful occasion. . So many Royals to catch up on- love the official photos of them all. Can someone explain why Beatrice is a Princess now.. I thought once a Queen, always a Queen.

Dutch Queens "retire" as Princesses,a tradition since Queen Wilhelmina.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what was being said when they called the roll and people stood up and either held up two fingers and said something, or didn't hold up their hand but said something. I can't even write what they were saying because I only speak American English but could someone explain this portion of the service. Its about 5hr 30 mins on NOS broadcast. King Willem-Alexandra is standing while they are saying it. Thanks!!

7pm: The Song for the King will be performed in the presence of the King and Queen, prior to the water pageant. This will take place at the EYE Film Museum via a video link with Ahoy Rotterdam.

Qieem Maxima looked regal in her electric blue attire; by their facial expressions the king and queen are transformed spiritually into the new chapter of their live.

Long Live the King.

Thank you for the information. It'll take some time getting used to calling Beatrix a princess.

A very nice gallery from Berlingske Tidende: Så har den hollandske krone skiftet hoved | www.b.dk

Both of the abdication ceremony, balcony and the oats in the church. The A-team is also featured.

This is for nerds. The second of the three guards units.
They are Garderegiment Grenadiers en Jagers. The Guards.
The "pompons" on their right shoulder indentify them as a guard regiment.
Their headgear indentify them as grenadiers, i.e. (by the time the unit was formed) heavy elite infantry. In fact the Guards was originally a mini-division, with it's own artillery, musket, jäger and grenadier regiments.
Grenadiers were preferably selected among mature, veteran soldiers who were considered reliable in battle. They were also preferably larger than average.
However, the Guards, also had a Jäger regiment. armed with rifles. They were preferably outdoorsmen and forresters or the equivalent of gamewardens on estates were very sought after as recruits. - Beause they could shoot straight and they were well suited for skirmishing and raiding which was the hallmark of jäger units.
But there was also a field artillery battery as seen in this pic: Så har den hollandske krone skiftet hoved | www.b.dk Notice the artillery badge on the bag on their backs. The bag did not contain cartridges, but spare fuses for the cannons.

Interesting in the group picture that Charles is standing behind the new Princess of Orange - Amalia. He ofc is a 61 years and counting serving as heir and she an heir for a matter of hours
