Dutch Working Visits to German States: 2014-2019

My favourite photo so far has been the King and Queen watching the solar eclipse!

They're my favourites, too. I think they're brilliant, and it looks as if King WA and Queen Maxima enjoyed themselves.

It seems that King WA and Queen Maxima have been very busy lately. Only a day before the visit to Germany they were in Denmark; though I guess they didn't have far to go, since it would probably be easy to drive out of Denmark and into Germany.

A clip from royalblog:

The blog says that the visit received quite some (media) attention. And as such it greatly helped the visibility of the economic mission. It seems that they visited the Joop van den Ende Academy that trains young people who do musicals and other light arts. Van den Ende and his wife Janine were escorting the king and queen in Hamburg:

The magazine Bunte has an article about the visit too. Apparently they came with 11 black limousines. Members of the court visited the hotel two or three times to inspect the place. They had breakfast in their own room(s). There was 'only' one stylist in the group.

According to another article in the magazine, Máxima also speaks German (as does the king of course).

Interesting, apparently the King and Queen sayed in Grand Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg. In the Dutch weekly program Blauw Bloed was said that it was not known where the King and Queen slept on the first night of their visit to Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. They said that there are lots of relatives and friends living in the area, hinting that the King and Queen would have stayed there.

The late King's father, Prince Claus, grew up on Dötzingen Estate in Hitzacker an der Elbe, near Hamburg.

The house on Dötzingen Estate, garden view

At present the house is inhabited by Christoph Freiherr von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen and his spouse Jutta Freifrau von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen née De Chapeaurouge (a French/Swiss aristocrat family), cousin and cousine of the late Prince Claus. Their son Johann-Caspar Freiherr von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen was one of the brideschildren at the wedding of Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima. To Dötzingen Estate belong several farms, farm- and moorlands and forests.

In Germany it's called "Königswetter/King's weather" when the weather is great, so Dutch refdag.nl is quoting that :)

I wonder if they invited the duke of Bavaria to the dinner but I doubt it. Q. Beatrix did invite one or two German royals to her last state visit to Berlin (the Sayn-Witgenstein-Sayns and the Anhalts IIRC). For the dinner it seems that the queen wore a pale gold outfit her hair down.

Apart from the 'Königswetter' I see they also took a Frau Antje to Germany, lucky you ;).

I was in Munich today among others at the Reisdenz. There Duke Max and Duchess Elizabeth in Bavaria where among the guests. But i think they where not invited by the dutch royals but by the the bavarian government wh hosted the Dinner there.

Nice that they were there. I believe Duke Max and Duchess Elisabeth have attended a few royal events in the Netherlands: the funerals of princes Claus and Bernhard and the 60th birthday celebrations of Q. Beatrix. At the latter event their three youngest daughters were also present but sadly nothing came of it. Duke Franz and Duke Max also attended Bernhard and Juliana's 25th wedding anniversary (nothing came of that either ;)). I don't think they attended the wedding of Willem-Alexander though.

Just seen a short Report on bavarian TV where the showed part of the speeches. Duke Max was seated next to the Queen. I think between a marriage would have also been the religious problem as the Wittelsbachs are staunch catholics.

I'm glad the Bavarian royals were part of the events, though I wonder why not Duke Franz. Wasn't the Queen Catholic, or from a Catholic family.

Maxima is still Catholic. She wasn't required to convert on marriage.

I think it may be a bit prickly for the Dutch royals to invite the Bavarians to the event. The German titles are no longer recognized by the state. If it had been a private event, of course the guest list would be open. But they are there on official business. It's different if the government invites them to intend.

As for Franz, perhaps he was simply unable to attend. Or perhaps, as he is head of the former house, it was thought better to send/invite Max.

Could also be thatr Duke Franz was there and i have not seen him there. Duke max and Duchess Elizabeth only arruived after the Royal Couple and there was much going ion. As for the religious Issue yes Máxima remaine cathiolic but she still had to agree to raise ther daughters proterstant and marry in a protesytant Ceremony something i have my doubt that the Wittelsbachs would agree to.

Yes they are. There was some coverage yesterday on TV and even my husband, who only knows about royalty through me, said wow, these two really know how to do it. I don't think there is another couple around, especially Max who are so good with people while at the same time being so relaxed and natural. There is nothing fake about them, they genuinely are having a good time. It's in their personality. Maxima kind of put the republican movement back into stone age, so to say.

I have similar experiences :D Máxima and WA manage to even impress those (male) ones ;) that normally are totally indifferent towards royalty..

I can't believe it. I shook hands with Her Majesty.

It was a wonderful day in Nuremberg. I was waiting at the Altes Rathaus, and I was in the first row. The whole place in front of the Altes Rathaus was crowded with royal fans. The weather was amazing and the royal couple was in very good mood.

This day I will never forget.

Edit: I am totally freaking out. I am at this picture. Such a great, wonderful, amazing day. So happy.
