I wasn't aware the German's president's companion was only his partner, not wife. Will Hollande's partner be seen during the Dutch visit?

The French President has no official partner (albeit there is an unofficial one). He will host the Dutch royals alone.

The President has no regular partner. He divorced Mme Ségolène Royal, now a minister in his Government, has a relationship with Mme Valerie Trierweiller, the unofficial Première Dame but has a maîtresse too, Mme Julie Gayet... So who can accompany the Président de la République?

President Hollande was never married to Mrs Royal (but had children with her). The President will be accompagned by the highest ranking minister (it was precisely Segolene Royal during the Spanish state visit).

His relationship with Valerie ended in 2014. She wrote a tell all in the fall of 2014, so sometime in the months before that. His relationship with Julie has been going on for more than a year and a half at least.

What makes a 'girlfriend' official enough to be an escort to one of these is my question?

He married his wife Gerhild in the late 50's and they have several children. They however live separated since over 20 years but for wahtever reason they have never divorced.

She did the same at a recent trip.

But the official part, Maxima just rocks it. She makes the job of a modern Queen look so effortless.

what is wrong with her hair? it's just loose (ie. not pulled back in a ponytail or else), but there is nothing wrong with it. i see nothing that is non decorous about maxima's arrival outfit/hairdo. perfectly professional, austere outfit for an arrival.

the couple made their way to the louvre to see 2 new rembrandts bought by the museum:

Au Louvre, la garde alternée de deux Rembrandt

The two Rembrandts have been bought by the Louvre in Paris ánd the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The paintings will be travelling back and forth between the two museums. The previous owners were the Rotschild family.

I'm affraid that, for some people, a Dutch Queen in 2016 has to look like the Queen mother circa 1958 in all circumstances.
I agree that she looked totally fine for this private arrival, and was spectacular for the official one.
On a side note, the two Rembrandts were conjointly bought by the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum : a nice symbol for this visit.

Glad someone else agreed with me. I kept looking at the photos wondering what I was missing. I thought she looked appropriate for the moment.
