I absolutely agree with everyone about Mette Marit. She is in her element. The way she relates to the people is amazing. She is definately one of my favorite princesses.

Keep it up, Mette Marit!!!

Maybe what we are seeing now is what Haakon saw in her along time ago and knew that she would be good for the "top job" !!

I like her and her unassuming ways. I think she is a perfect princess for these modern times.

I think this trip also gives her the chance to spread her wings a bit, if you know what I mean. On most of the other trips she has had someone else from the royal family there to lean on, here she doesn't. Now she has to stand on her own, and, in my opinion, she does so in an excellent manner.

She has had time to grow into her role, and know what is expected of her much more than she did when she first became the crown princess, and I think that is important. You don't become another person overnight. It takes time, and I think that's part of what we're seeing now.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is on a visit to Malawi, was on Wednesday appointed Zulu Princess by Zulu Queen Kachindomoto. The appointment to Princess of Malawi came after three days of study of the work against HIV/Aids.

The Crown Princess was given a shield, a spear and a wooden scepter, together with a pearl embroidered headdress and a Zulu necklace and a matching armband from the Ngoni district.

Queen Kachindomoto is the first woman Zulu chief in Malawi.Crown Princess Mette Marit has been accompanied to Malawi by Norway's Minister of International Development, Hilde Frafjord Johnson.

Thanks for all these pictures pdas1201 and Lyonnaise! :)

Mette-Marit looks like she is really enjoying herself in Malawi and getting right into the culture and spirit of Malawi.

Sometimes I see pictures of royals abroad and they seem downright bored, as if they're counting down the days until they can get back to the palace. While I can understand that being away from your own bed and your family can be difficult, I really appreciate royals who really try to get a taste of the culture and people of the nations they are visiting.

Amazing what effect a little bit of enthusiasm (a lot it seems in Mette-Marit's case) has on the people whom you're visiting and on yourself.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit says that this is the worst she has ever witnessed: http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=264520

The trip to Malawi is something that she will remember for a long time. When she gets home she is going to talk to Marius about it, and tell him about the difference for children around the world.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit can also see herself on more trips like this one, because she is interested in subjects like this one, and they have been part of her education. She also feels that, as HIV/AIDS is becoming slightly more angled towards women, it is women's duty to get involved in the campaign against it. (rough translation)

That would explain the looks in some of these photos. So sad for her and sad for all of those in Malawi:
