thank you for the link. it is a shame during a painful time the press is in your face, perhaps its a telephoto shot and hopefully they were at a respectful distance, but it comes with the territory. the love and affection the king and queen have for MM shows in their respect attending the funeral. (none of my inlaws attended my mothers funeral) i'm very moved and touched they did that and i'm glad MM has all their love and support. Maris is looking so grownup, he's such a fine young man.
on a shallow note-whats up with the brown shoes or is it my computer.

thanks for all the pics everyone and the videos! I'm kind of new to royalty and I haven't seen any pics of M-M's mom and sister before. So today when I saw her sister Kristin, I was a little surprised to see her with such dark hair. I know M-M colors her hair and maybe her sister does as well b/c it seems so dark. But the facial structure of Kristin is very similar to M-M

I really admire the King and Queen for handling the situation with so much dignity and for being so suportive of MM.

Mette-Marit's brother Espen Høiby and his wife Renate Høiby expect a child. They married in summer 2003.

Smile Sven Hoiby recently passed away -- RIP

Thanks in advance.
Mette-Marit's father recently passed away and the Royal Family kindly attended his funeral as did MM, from whom he was estranged for awhile.

I thought it was very sweet of The Royals to have paid tribute to such a controversial figure and their doing so, and attending his funeral in MM's home town, really signified how they feel about Haakon's wife -- e.g., they think most highly of her!

Being Royal tends to swallow you up!

Once you marry into any Royal family, you own family tends to take a REAL back seat to your new one!

I think M-M is close to her Mum, but likely doesn't see her all that often, because her Royal Duties, and obligations take her away from her former life, and perhaps even her former friends!

Just guessing, here ...

that was my guess too. she seems so busy with royal duties, and I wondered if she ever spent time with her family (if she could find the time). it is nice to hear that she is still close with her mother.

Mette-Marit (and also Haakon, the children, etc) is actually very close to her family - her mother has often been at Skaugum, taking care of the children when MM and H have been on travels, MM is fairly often in Kristiansand to visit her mother - the whole family came to Skaugum for Christmas Eve celebrations last year… etc. We've also seen pictures of MM attending football matches with her brothers, attending her niece's school plays and so on.

thanks, norwegianne. this is really nice to hear. I am also glad to learn that the children are close with their maternal grandmother, and that MM is close with her nieces and nephews. I have often wondered how life was for the non-royal parents and siblings.

I am assuming she is close to her Mum.

I would like that to be so.

Please don't quote me on this.

NICE to know ... Thank you, Norwegianne!

You seem expert, here.

Do you know folks who themselves KNOW members of the Royal Family?

Interested as to your Sources.

I don't know anyone who knows the royal family - all the things I've mentioned are things that have come out in interviews with the royals, or articles about them, or in photoshoots.
