They may not only have gone to Svalbard to enjoy the scenery.

Even though Svalbard is Norwegian territory, there is a considerable Russian presence there and Russia (and before that the Sovietunion) feel they have a right to have a say in what is going on and how the place is run.
Despite the strategic importance of Svalbad the islands are demilitarized and Russia in particular would prefer they remain so - or alternative come under Russian... protection.

Apparently so, but not that strange. European royals often sent for or got sent portraits of foreign royals and George III is an ancestor of Haakon.
Of course, but I would never link this very modern CP couple of Norway to a 18th century foreign monarch with colonial ambitions.
I would never be surprised if a painting of foreign monarchs would be hanging in the Palace (which, in fact, they do) - my surprised was just focused on a painting like this in Skaugum.

Fingers crossed for Rafa, but how lovely to see representatives of both royal families there. I'm trying to think when was the last Grand Slam final between two players both from monarchies.

FO 2010, Nadal versus Soderling from Sweden.
And the year before we had Clijsters from Belgium versus Wozniacki from Denmark at the USO.

Since then we have had a FO final with 2 Spaniards and some finals between players from Commonwealth realms

This morning, June 10, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the opening of a conference on green and sustainable cities at Oslo Town Hall.

They did so together with Crown Princess Mary who is on a one-day economic visit to Norway. In order not to have all photos, articles and discussions in various threads, please see this thread instead.

TRH Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will come to the women's cup final between Brann and Stabæk at Ullevaal Stadium on Saturday 5 November 2022.

Press release from the Norwegian Football Association:
- We are proud and happy to once again welcome Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit to an exciting cup final at Ullevaal, says football president Lise Klaveness.

This year's cup finalists are Brann and Stabæk, who will fight for the NM gold on Saturday 5 November at 16.00 at Ullevaal Stadium.

Culture and Equality Minister Anette Trettebergstuen will also be present during this year's cup final.

Stabæk has won three NM golds previously (2011, 2012 and 2013). Brann is this year's series champion in the Toppserien, and is chasing The Double in its very first season as SK Brann Kvinner. The team was also a cup finalist last year, then as Sandviken. It ended with NM silver after a 1-2 loss for Vålerenga.
