Maybe this is a really ignorant question, but why would the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg have been at Gabriel's baptism? What were the familial ties there? Especially since it doesn't sound like Laurent and Claire weren't there, but the GD's of Luxembourg were?
(And what a whirlwind week for the GD couple! State visit to Denmark capped off by a trip to Belgium for Gabriel's baptism. I am exhausted just thinking about it!

Laurent & Claire were there , but they were in the back row.
Gran Duchess Josephine-Charlotte is King Albert's sister, Grand Duke Henri is a very good friend of Prince Philippe. King Albert is also henri's godfather.

Ahhhhh! Thank you very much for the explanation Martine. Makes so much more sense the appearance of the GDs of Luxembourg at Gabriel's baptism.

.... and Phillipe looks so proud

I beg to differ ... the CP shows as much emotion as a wood stump.
Truly, I hope in private life, that he comes a bit more alive.

I guess it's all a matter of how we view something, but, to each his/her own.

Is Mathilde´s brother the only godparent of prince Gabriel? In other Royal houses the children have more godparents, and the first son of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal of Greece has 8 godparents among them prince William, crown prince Frederik and crown princess Victoria(but ok, maybe Royals with less/no power have to swank more than Royals, who reign. ...or it´s simply a question of their religions affiliation?)

No, Prince Gabriel has a godmother as well. Baroness Maria Christina von Freyberg née Rossi di Montelera, who's a second cousin, or second cousin once removed of Prince Philippe (the proud papa! .

Did Elisabeth have a birthday party, or did she have to settle for watching her brother's christening? She looks adorable....yet very bored.

Are there any photos of Mathilde's parents at Gabriel's christening? I can't imagine they weren't there but I haven't seen any.

They were there but you can't see them on the photos. There were only a limited number of photos and Mathilde's relatives aren't on any (except her brother who's Gabriel's godfather). You can only see glimpses of the Luxemburg royals who were present too.

OK - thank you for the response, Catherine. I always enjoy seeing her parents -- they seem like such caring people but are always so discreet -- so I was just wondering if there were photos -- and now I know!
