I always wonder about Philippe's and Mathilde's level of German. I would imagine that the language spoken at this meeting of head of states (and the regent and his wife representing Liechtenstein) of German-speaking countries is German...

The King and Queen went to the town of Chaudfontaine today to talk about the horrible floodings that are going on in much of Wallonia and esp. in the province of Liège.

The king said he was deeply touched by the disaster and expressed his thanks for all those who are trying to help out.
The royals were accompanied by the federal minister Annelies Verlinden (interior affairs). She was unable to leave the town as all the roads from the town flooded once again.
Tonight the peak of the water is expected to arrive. Downtown Liège has been evacuated as they expect that the water level will rise further.
So far 9 people have died, 4 people are missing. Among the missing is a 15 y/o girl who fell in the water. She attended a summer camp that was organised by the United World Colleges (UWC).

I will leave the Forum for a while because of the Dramatic Situation in my Country.
To day there was less water and people could visit their houses and saw all is lost !All what they did to have a nice house , a nice garden , pictures documents are gone for ever. People are missing .. terrible no Electricity , no water , no gas for a long time.
We will have on 20/7 a National Mourning Day with at 12 a Minut of Silence .
Our National Day will be shortened.
See you later MO

Although many appreciated the visit, the mayor of the town of Olne did not. The mayor - named Cédric Halin - refused a visit of the royal couple as he said that the region did 'not need people who [only] come and see' instead he needs to receive means to solve the problems, which does not happen. He added that he thought the king and the prime minister of Wallonia would be badly received by the local population.
