King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will pay a State Visit to China from June 20 to 28. They will visit Wuhan, Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Shenzhen.

Wim Dehandschutter @WDehandschutter Koning Filip en koningin Mathilde gaan van 20 t.e.m. 28 juni op staatsbezoek naar China (Wuhan, Peking, Shanghai, Suzhou en Shenzhen).

Wim Dehandschutter @WDehandschutter China (20-28 juni) wordt eerste -uitgaande- staatsbezoek van koning Filip en koningin Mathilde. Eerste inkomende was vorig jaar (ook) China.
 
That is a long state visit, 8 days! As Dehandschutter said: the first incoming state visit was also from China. I suppose an economic mission will accompany the visit, which may be one of the reasons that it will last over a week.

This is one heck of an economic mission, more than 100 CEOs of belgian companies are present :eek:

To me, this is one of the good reasons to have a monarchy, a couple that promotes their country and opens up business opportunities everywhere, there are other monarchies that are basically useless because they don't do anything besides cutting ribbons and give meaningless speeches.

According to LeSoir, there were like 10 million people watching their visit on TV in Wuhan and about 10 thousand policemen guarding them around in the streets in China.
 
10 thousand police is a big number, was there a security risk?
Interesting that up to 10million would be watching the visit, was some events live on local tv?

It is a shame that this state visit 'new style' with the focus on promoting the belgian economy does not include a state banquet.

you are right, well spotted! christian is Consul General of belgium in Guangzhou (Addresses and opening hours - China - Diplomacy), so i guess it's fitting that he welcomed the king and queen.

i'm surprised about mathilde's french accent when speaking in english, as it's quite strong.
