I thought it might be fun to share our impressions of the watercolour works of the Prince. For me, it is impossible to choose a particular favorite one, though I have a kind of preference for his paintings from Provence and Tuscany. I also like to look at a rather intriguing one of a castle in Turkey. I confess, though, that I have only one book of his works and have not taken the time to observe any examples of his work in other sources.

I also love the beautiful books where he does the original pencil sketches. I wonder if he adds the paint into the books, or if he transfers the sketch to canvas and then adds the paint on the canvas.

I like his work, and hopefully there will be another book.

I didn't know he had done any watercolours.

Thank you Princesskaimi. Charles is quite talented as an artist and I had read somewhere that his favorite medium was watercolor. I recently viewed some of the works his father the Duke of Edinburgh had produced and that is where Charles' talent comes from. That, and considering his mother's family line has had many talented artists.:flowers:

I think Charles' watercolour paintings are really very beautiful and the colours he uses are very cleverly mixed to create natural, simple and calming images of landscapes. My father used to paint using watercolour and it's not I think an easy medium to use, but the most amazing and ethereal paintings can be produced.

He is quite talented, and watercolour is not an easy medium (I don't think there are any easy artistic media, actually). He does use color very well, and yes, in a very calming style. His love of pure countryside comes across, but there's certainly more in his art than merely wanting to capture what a photo would capture, he's an artist. I hope he continues to pursue this talent, he seems to be coming into his own as a water colourist.

I think he would love the coastal landscapes of Hawaii and Central/Northern California, given his palette and his feel for nuanced colors.

Thank you CasiraghiTrio and PrincessKaimi. Indeed very enjoyable works.
Peacuful colours, minimalistic impressions.

He has been known to donate his watercolors occasionally to charity to be auctioned off. They go for quite a bit of money. I have seen several and he is quite proficient at it. He is not the only royal painter. Czar Nicholas also excelled at water colors. Great thread! Would love more images of his drawings too! Thanks!

Prince Charles' paintings always give me a feeling of peace and calm.

Its very hard to find pictures of his work. One of the links above do not work for me. From what I could see he is very impressive. Surely its not all watercolor? The one of the castle - Sandringham - probably my favorite along with the sky scapes - has an oil look to it.

Very good work. :flowers: Some complex stuff there.

Here's a link that within it has other links where one can click on images. Interesting that apparently Prince Philip and Prince Andrew also paint. Charles has done an interesting self-portrait. http://tinyurl.com/7sk2qzn

I have always admired Prince Charles's watercolors! That is a very difficult medium in which to work- were any of this royal ancestors artistically talented? I seem to remember queen Victoria's sketches being posted recently.

Hi, Patra. :flowers: In the article I linked to it is stated: 'Charles has a passion for painting; a trait shared with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Andrew'.

I wonder if that portrait of Prince Charles in his garden, I assume at Highgrove, is a self-portrait? It was done so well.

Self-portrait is indeed difficult. It has to be that, though, given the site - wouldn't you say? The face is very interesting - has captured something essential, something true. Not easy to do.

I wonder if either of his sons or siblings paint as well? Those painting are really beautiful.

Thank you for the individual links, Tyger. I like the Wensleydale views. He's really quite talented.

His achievement of light here is splendid. I'd spring for a copy of this one. I think one can buy copies if I read the site correctly.

Really? That's worth looking into; not everyone can say they have artwork by the Prince of Wales hanging on their walls!

What? You've lost me - :ermm: Its funny? The site says you can buy signed lithographs. Actual works - the originals - are never for sale though it seems the wealthy and famous do get them somehow. Anyhoo - as I do dabble in watercolor myself - that skyscape over Windsor really catches my eye. Wouldn't mind one - I'll hang it next to my Picasso. ;)

That's what I LOVE about art, everyone sees beauty & talent differently, which is wonderful! I personally like

I guess my attempt at humor fell a bit flat. I had meant that if you had one of the POW's artworks on your walls, you could claim that you own something painted by royalty - a bit impressive for family or friends who may not know that Charles paints, copies of his lithos are sold and whom you could tease. Naturally it couldn't be an original, although maybe my Monet won't know the difference!:flowers:

Tyger, thank you for the individual links to all the paintings. They're all very well done. I had no idea that you could buy a signed lithographs. Would be delightful to have something painted by royalty in one's collection.

Well, I got a response to my inquiry to the art gallery. :D

Text: Many thanks for the email.
Please find attached our current price list for the works by The Prince of Wales.
Windsor Castle North Aspect is one of the more expensive works priced at £15,000. We are able to offer spreading of payments if this helps at all.
Do let us know if you have any queries or would like to come in at all to view the works.
Warmest wishes

:p You will notice that my choice 'is one of the more expensive works'. The same happens when I pick out jewelry - anything really.

Its heartening to hear that I could 'spread the payments'. Hmmm.....

Now where is that lottery ticket....when is the full moon?

A Monet? Ah, you win. Your Monet outranks my Picasso. ;)
