Diana had a secret daughter??? How on earth does the Globe think that a woman photographed every minute of her life could hide a pregnacy??? Do they think that we're stupid?
Sorry very lovely pictures of her dancing, I just got thrown by the Globe's front page.

I was going through my "Diana Princess of Wales- Book of Fashion" and looking at the fashion diary and had a question about a picture's existence and wondered if anyone could please help me out. It says that on 5-14-81, the date may be wrong as many in this diary are, she attended the presentation by the Queen of the new colors to the Welsh Guards at Windsor Castle. The description of her outfit is a "white silk dress with tiny regular L-shaped motifs in grey and maroon, and trimmed and edged with golden-yellow silk. Long full sleeves with buttoned yellow cuffs; paneled yoke and a row of yellow buttons from neck to waist. Matching yellow ribbons at neck. Primrose-colored hat with upturned brim and matching ostrich feathers flecked with brown. White shoes." I would appreciate any help as I am trying to put a scrapbook together of all her engagements and am starting with the first five years. Also does anyone know of a book with a more accurate diary for those years and later years? Thanks!

I believe this is the dress they are referring to - she wore it a few times, I dont know if this first picture is from that outing. the 2nd image obviously is not as she is holding William and that is in Australia the following year. both of these images I found in the same book you referenced...

Thanks so much for your help! I think the first picture you posted is also from 83 but they both helped because I thought that dress just had little dots not Ls. I actually found pictures from the occasion I was looking for in a folder from another time she wore that dress but I was wondering if anyone else knew if the presentation by the Queen of the new colors to the Welsh Guards at Windsor Castle occurred on 5-14-81?
Thanks!

Thanks. That's actually where I got the pictures I have from but I though it was the same event and she had just taken her hat off. Do you know or anyone else know what occasion and date this picture is from. I know it is not from the "For Your Eyes Only" premiere because I have a picture of her getting out of the car for that without a cape on. I'm pretty sure this was during the engagement. It could be 6-2-81 Regimental Ball at Merchant Taylors Hall but I'm not sure. I'd also love to see a color picture of this night if you know of one. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a picture of her that you know is from that dinner or do you know of any differences in her jewelery that night and what she wore to the movie premiere later that month?

Thanks for confirming the date and occasion. I have another question if anyone can help about two 1981 dates. I've attached pictures from both events. The first is the opening of an exhibit, where Diana fell asleep, and the second is the opening of parliament. I know they both happened in November 1981. Old wire photos from newspapers are the most reliable source for dates and are almost always right but the ones I have for these dates both say they took place on 11-4-81, which was a Wednesday. The one for the museum event mentions it took place in the evening. Does the opening of parliament occur earlier in the day? Does anyone know if these happened the same day or if not have the correct dates. Thanks to anyone who can help.

The date of the State opening of the Parliament is correct, but the gala one isn't.
The first picture was taken on November 1, 1981. Diana attended a gala at the Victoria and Albert Museum wearing a dress by Bellville Sassoon.
The second picture was taken three days later, on November 4, 1981 - during the State Opening of the Parliament.

Did you get the 11-1-81 date from Getty Images? The only reason I ask is because they often put the first of the month if they don't have the exact date for the picture. Also I have read before that Diana fell asleep at the gala and the next day her pregnancy was announced, which was 11-5-81.

My apologies; I did indeed base my observation on Getty dates. However, a further research showed that the gala at Victoria and Albert's was indeed on November 4 - not November 1. That was also the first time she wore the six-row pearl choker with a large central diamond, surrounded by smaller diamonds - a loan from the Queen.
The Opening of the Parliament was most definitely on November 4 as well, so it does look like she had both engagements on the same day.
Her pregnancy was indeed announced indirectly because of the dozing off incident on November 5; it was an unusual move because British royals tend to announce pregnancies only after the first trimester.

Thanks for the background info, I didn't know the pregnancy announcement was earlier than usual. If anyone knows which event happened first I'd love to know.
