I don't know if you have seen this already, but as a die hard Michael Jackson fan also interested in royals (although the dead ones are more interesting to me than the living, sadly enough), it suddenly accured to me, that this might be interesting for you guys. These are parts from an interview Barbara Walters did with Michael Jackson just weeks after princess Diana's death in 1997.

(In the beginning of the interview)
Barbara: Up until last week the most photographed people in the world were Princess Diana and Michael Jackson. Now only one remains to talk about what it means to live under that kind of scrutiny. Since the allegations of child abuse made against Michael Jackson four years ago, he has been, if possible, even more pursued. By the way, we checked with the district attourney's office in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and learned that there is no active case against Mr. Jackson today. Michael Jackson himself is notoriously shy about giveing interviews, but on my way home from covering Princess Diana's funeral, I met with him in Paris to discuss the paparazzi and his personal recollections of the Princess. When it comes to the paparazzi, Michael Jackson says he feels a bond with Princess Diana. The paparazzi have been a part of his life since he was a small child, the youngest of the Jackson Five. He has been a superstar for three decades. At 39, he continues to sing and dance all over the world and the paparazzi follow him all over the world. He has been on a European Tour for the last five months playing for over two million people. The night Princess Diana died, Michael Jackson cancelled his concert, but his last two concerts were dedicated to her. He does not pretend that she was a close friend. She was a fan.
Michael: I met her first at a concert...in London. She was very kind, very loving, very sweet.
Barbara: What did you two talk about?
Michael: I wrote a song called "Dirty Diana". It was not about Lady Diana. It was about a certain kind of girls that hang around concerts or clubs, you know, they call them groupies.
Barbara: Groupies.
Michael: I've lived with that all my life. These girls...they do everything with the band, you know, everything you could imagine. So I wrote a song called "Dirty Diana". But I took it out of the show in honor of her royal highness. She took me away and she said, "Are you going to do 'Dirty Diana'?" So, I said, "No I took it out of the show because of you." She said, "No! I want you to do it...do it...do the song."
Barbara: So she had a sense of humor with you?
Michael: Yeah, of course. And she told me it was an honor to meet me. And I said, "It's an honour to meet you."
Barbara: How did you hear of her death?
Michael: Um...I woke up (in a quiet and reflective voice) and my doctor gave me the news. And I fell back down in grief, and I started to cry. The pain...I felt inner pain, in my stomach, and in my chest. (his voice starts to break slightly) So, I said, "I can't handle this...it's too much." Just the message and the fact that I knew her personally. Then on top of that one I said, "There's another one...real soon...I feel it coming...there's another one....it's another one coming and I pray it's not me...please don't let it be me." And then Mother Theresa came...
§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§
(Later on in the interview)
Barbara: Michael, is it the journalist's role...or the press' role to be kind?
Michael: To be kind?
Barbara: Because the press also has to look into things, be tough. It can't always be kind.
Michael: (laughs) What you saw...what happened to Lady Diana...you tell me. There should be some boundaries, some kind of way. The star needs some space. Some time to relax. He has a heart...he's human.
Barbara: You cancelled the concert you were about to do when you heard of Diana's death.
Michael: Yes.
Barbara: And when you finally did a concert, you dedicated it to her. What did you say?
Michael: In my heart I was saying, "I love you Diana. Shine. And shine on forever, because you are the true Princess of the people." And in words I did not say it, but I said it for three minutes in showing a big picture on the jumbotron screens...Sony, big huge screens...and her picture was there shining...and the crowd went bananas (makes sound effects of the crowd's noises) And I played the song "Smile" and "Gone Too Soon".
Barbara: Give us some of the lyrics, if you can.
Michael: "Shiny and sparkly, and splendedly bright, here one day, gone one night...Gone too soon."

Wow! What a touching interview it's nice to know how much Diana was loved by people from all walks of life she touched everyone's hearts. She'll be in my heart forever...

Diana with famous people from all around the world

 Princess Diana met a lot of famous people with different nationlities , and I love seeing her with people outside the royal circle ...

I'd like to start with a photo that I was very happy to see - It's a photo of Diana with an Egyptian actor , Omar Sharif whom I love very much ...

( from Getty images )
This was during a charity dinner at Harrods in London in Feb 1996 - Egyptian surgeon , Dr Magdi Yaqoub , is also seen in the photo

other photos from the event ..

She looked stunning in that dress.

;) Diana was a friend of Jemima and Imran Khan . It was said that she asked them to convince Hasnat Khan to marry her ..

( from Getty images ) Also with Imran Khan during the same visit

But I never saw a photo of Diana with Hasnat Khan .. I loved this man because he never exploited his relationship with Diana like her other lovers and friends like Hewitt .

 On the evening of March 9 , 1981 , Lady Diana Spencer met Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco .. Diana admired Grace a lot especially when she comforted her about the pursuit of photographers .

Diana met Grace again in July 1981 when they attended Wimbledon together .. Prince Albert was also there

Princess Diana & Princess Grace were similar to each other in that they both fascinated the world , and both died young in car crashes ... But I think they were completely different in character ...

Well Princees Grace and Princess Diana had alot of similarities and alot of differences. This was the first picture I saw of Diana with Albert.

Diana seems taller than Albert in the middle photo. Must be her heels.

Grace and Diana were very different in character. I think if their marriages were reversed, they would have had different results.

WOW!

Thanks Eman for these pictures of Diana at Harrods Charity Gala.

Eman,

I think that Diana had real love relationships with three men only....James Hewitt, Hasnat Khan and Dodi Fayed............other men the press kept talking about like Oliver Hoar..etc, were just friends.........male friends............I don't think that Diana was serious in having a love affair with them!

I think the press wanted to waste Di's image, especially those who supported Charles and beleived that he was a poor victim in this arranged royal marriage!! Was he?!!! Of course not! He was 35............can't he decide whose the woman to live with and fit to set next to him in the future as Queen of England?!!

Any way.............I strongly believe that Di's relation with Dodi Fayed was serious....He was a great companion...she felt so blissed and happy with him.....he was handsome, rich, highly educated, good listener who cared a lot about her......

He was suitable in many ways.......one way that he didn't hide from the press like Hasnat did.....he's used to be in the spot light, after all he was a movie producer and got a cirlce of friends who most of them were celebrities and movie stars.

That was the best part about him! that made Diana comfortable....at least she will not argue with him about the press attention like Hasant did before.....he asked for some privacy.....diana wanted that too poor her....but who to blame?!!!!

Dodi coped with it impressively......and now his younger sister Camilla is turning heads with her beauty and elegance!

I think she wanted to believe that with Dodi, she can move to a new life full of surprises! marrying him, moving to America (travel there for vacation maybe, she won't leave Wills & Harry alone!) and having more children.....

Her death was a plot................it's hidden, but one day, the truth will be revealed!!

What do you think?!!

Are there any photos of Diana and Elizabeth Taylor?? I remember pictures of the Queen with Elizabeth but not Diana.

Both did not look at their best and even were quite unflattering on these pictures. The health problems and addictions of Princess Gracia were visible in the late 1970's and the 1980's and Diana still had puppy fat and to find her own way (which she did found brilliantly, in her later life).

Well The Princess of Wales looks somewhat pregnant and Liz's hairstyle wasn't that great. But they still looked beautiful.

I have the photograph in a book but unfortunately do not know how to show pictures here. :bang: I also have a scanner if that is needed? The stamp does seem to show everything except my photograph would be bigger.

Probably because she was somewhat pregnant. :flowers: Hard to hide "the bump".

She has met the couple a couple of times already, since Monsieur Jacques Chirac has been Premier Ministre and Maire de Paris for decades, before he became President.

By the way, Madame Bernadette Chirac née Chodron de Courcel, Premiere Dame de France could not know that she and her spouse would be amongst the first and the very few to say Au Revoir to the deceased Princess in that awful night in Paris....

I remember reading about that event when Diana recieved her humanitarian award. I think Colin Powell had stated that he was distantly related to Princess Diana.
