Thanks for sharing this - it was lovely. I find it frustrating that for many people, Diana has become either saintly or a wicked manipulator since her death. Like all people - Diana was neither black nor white - she was shades of grey and complexity. Sir Richard shows that depth in his lovely prose and his willingness to understand complex situations. His ability to understand the monarchy's position on the flag at BP while understanding public concern is another example.

Does not the man on the far left behind Prince Charles look like RH to you?
I have another pic of this event in a book, and you can clearly see RH behind Diana and William, but this one my eyes are playing with me....:ermm:
I know RH was at the event- have a pic of him with H. M.;)

08/24/1991 - Diana, Princess of Wales, attending the film premiere at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square of "Stepping Out" to raise funds for the Trust for Sick Children in Wales and for the NSPCC. She is shaking hands with actress and singer Liza Minelli. The Princess is wearing an ivory and pink silk crepe one-sleeved evening dress designed by Catherine Walker.

Wonderful! Love Diana looking so happy, and the dress is gorgeous!
 
I loved the photos of her with Pavarotti.
 
Diana was very excited when she first met Michael Jackson after his concert. She told someone 'I've never met anyone so famous!'
 
In terms of hijinx, it's hard not to be impressed by her successful hang in a bar with some friends which included Freddie Mercury. Apparently they didn't push things and stay too long. Imagine if someone had asked for a dance :ermm: ..Outfitted in some type of Army jacket, shades, and hat, allowed it to happen.

somebody asked her to dance? what would happen. She'd dance with them....
