I too got up very early to watch the wedding of the century 30 years ago today. I also remember sharing with friends, I was 13 at the time, that I didn't think the marriage would last due to the significant age difference. It pains me to have been right.
I also remember my father fussing at me for getting up early to watch a wedding, but I wouldn't get up early for other things. This year he didn't fuss at me much, probably because I get up early every day for work.

She's marrying the man she loves." my father repeated, "the poor little girl." he was 57 at the time, and so she would have seemed like a "little girl" to him. He realized better than i what kind of life she'd have. But still, it was a wonderful day. I really started collecting diana memorabilia in 1982, when the first early biographies of her started coming out. They were fascinating, glamorous days.

is amazing that many people was thinking about the fairytale wedding...poor diana... They can see the future... Was a reality!

I did not sleep the night before...at about 3am I finally got up to watch. My parents joined me. I was excited for the pageantry and of course I couldn't wait to see the dress...but I distinctly remember the sense of unease I had about the whole thing. Something felt "off" and I kept saying that to my parents....Charles and Diana had NO romantic chemistry and as young as I was I could tell. Charles in particular seemed to be doing what was expected of him, there was no real sense of joy from either of them. I remember that my mother cried, because she said she felt sorry for Diana.
I also remember having an upset tummy the night before and the morning of the wedding, too.

It was the best wedding I have ever, ever seen. Diana was a gorgeous bride and for an entire generation, July 29, 1981 will remain the date of THE Royal Wedding of our lifetimes.
It is poignant to look at now, realising Diana has only sixteen years to live and counting how many of those years were unhappy... But I personally believe Lady Diana Spencer walked to the altar on her father's arm madly in love with the PoW and proud to have won his love and determined to get him to love her as passionately as she did him. I think at twenty years of age, many ladies believe they can change the man they are marrying.
It's so difficult to believe that was thirty years ago; I was a young child when they wed but I remember it all as if it were yesterday.
And it's important to remember that we have both Charles and Diana to thank for Princes William and Harry. Those two young men will shape the Monarchy during the years William is King, and thanks to both parents, they will do a good job.
I raised a toast to the memory of Diana last night; she will never be forgotten and neither will anyone ever forget the fairy tale images of that magical day.

Yes, I agree with you I think that was the best wedding of the history forever and ever... Diana was and will always be the most pretty princess....
about of the result of the Couple of Charles and Diana, the best are their sons William and Harry, I agree too that William will be a good King!!!
