Even this statement from David Manning
Quote:
Then Harry left for his desk job and devoted himself to the Invictus Games coming into being.
|
When Harry's desk job was announced it was to organise ceremonial events in London. It was stated if the Warrior Games come to London, Harry may be involved but only to a certain point.
The narrative that Harry was assigned to London to organise the Invictus Games came after the fact.
Doesn't change the great job Harry did but the story evolved over time

Yeah, I just noticed. ESPN 2 will have the prime time shows. Have to download the app. I'm wondering if any of Harry's family will show up.

ESPN 2 will be broadcasting the opening ceremony, so I'm hoping this means they'll show some of the games too.
It's possible that someone in the family will attend, but I'm not sure. Most of them seem to have engagements next week. I could see Beatrice going since she's working in NY and that's only about a 2.5 hour flight to Orlando.

Where in my post does it say that Manning said that Harry devoted himself to the Games? I was quoting Junor's next paragraph where she wrote that the Govenment gave the OK in January 2015. I never mentioned Manning in that paragraph.
I just dislike the fact that you appear to diminish Harry's role in getting the WArrior Games to Britain....such as your remark in your previous post about Harry 'flying his helicopter ' when the Warrior Games were 'being kicked around' as if he knew nothing about it.
Harry went to the Colorado Springs Games in March 2013, saw what they did and having also met American team warriors the year before in 2012 too, he came back to England with the idea for a British Warrior Games with an international component. Simple. It was Harry's idea.
Cameron's media conference reported in the Telegraph was in January 2014, months later and following the MOD-Nick Booth meetings of the summer of 2013, after Harry and Booth returned from Colorado Springs.
As you seem to disbelieve this scenario, Rudolph, I intend to write to Nick Booth at the Royal Foundation and get the timeline and whose idea the Invictus Games was, if possible.

^Agreed. Fantastic job and I tend to like it when a royal or celebrity chooses a particular cause to support as opposed to like fifty different ones. I don't doubt Harry saw the games and thought it a great idea, I just don't believe he single-handedly created and supervised every aspect of its creation. Not that it matters because this event, like all charity events, are not about giving credit to the creator but about bringing attention to those in need. I don't think Harry particularly cares whether he's given the credit precisely because he knows he did not do this by himself or for himself.

That fact in no way dimisnishes Prince Harry's role. His commitment and dedication to the games is wonderful and should definitely be applauded.

Exactly. As with all big events like this, teamwork is necessary. Even if Harry was the first to think up the idea he didn't do it himself and the government wouldn't have gotten as much publicly without Harry. Sounds like a win-win scenario to me.
I was watching the NBA playoffs on ESPN and I saw the commercial and it reminded me it was going on. I'm really excited to watch and I'm sure it'll be a great success.

What about the story, Harry actually telling himself every time being asked, HE came up with the idea of Invictus when flying back home from Afghanistan with a danish soldier´s body on board?!
I also think remembering William referring to Harry as founder of Invictus in an interview and how much he admired him for that...!

IIRC, the plane ride home with the wounded soldiers and a casualty was the inspiration for Harry to find out what these wounded soldiers lives were like when they returned home, what their issues and challenges were and he sought to put his time and effort into doing what he could to bring attention to their needs. It wasn't actually the Invictus Games but many of the other programs too such as Walking with the Wounded.
Like a beautifully bloomed plant, the Invictus Games depended on a lot of different things to bring it to the successful event is is. The seed was the Warrior Games in the US which Harry attended and with the backing of the government, the MOD and the Royal Foundation, it nurtured that seed to what we see today as the Invictus Games.

Quite a few interviews given this week and some interesting comments on his life, future career and difficulties maintaining a romance in his position.

Ostensibly, the interviews are supposed to be about the games but it receives only a footnote.
He's asked about his love life, he's asked about George and Charlotte and he's asked about his mother and towards the end the games are mentioned.
Even the First Lady said, "If you haven't already fallen in love with him you have to see him with his nephew."
Rebecca English said a couple of days ago on Twitter, the reason British press didn't go to Florida, it was announced Harry wouldn't be giving the tabloids interviews and she said the cost was too much just to cover Invictus.
It's too bad the focus for so many is on Harry and his personal life, and not on the veterans competing in the games.

I don't understand why the sports or news reporters didn't go to cover the athletes competing. The Paralympics got way more coverage in the UK than they get in the US. There are well known UK Paralympians. Why not cover the people competing in the Games? They all have a interesting story how they got there. It didn't have to be the Royal reporters going.

Harry was on GMB this morning talking about his mother, he was on Good Morning America today and we heard about George in his bath robe and Harry being an uncle.
He talked to the BBC about dating and his right to privacy. His interview with Hello is mostly about his personal life. His Times interview was the best but again we got to read about Prince George.
Sure Invictus gets mentioned but it seems like the media won't interview him just for Invictus, he needs to talk about his personal life as well
