Different country different rules. As much as you make being a single mom only a step up from a criminal. Prince Louis had to give up his tight to succession to marry tessy, and her only sin was having a child out of wedlock. Unlike Mette, the father was Louis. Even their son in wedlock is not in line. They only have titles as grandpa Henri granted his grandsons and Tessy titles. In the Netherlands you have Mabel. Friday had to give up his place to marry her. His daughters are countesses and not in line because of it. Both Tessy and Mabel have proven to be extremely intelligent and charismatic contributions. So just because Norway allowed the horrifying thought single mom. And Sweden allowed a semi nude model, doesn't mean all countries would allow it.
But considering she has a mainstream acting career. A huge base in charity work. An education. And her only miss is a divorce which is clearly not an. Issue in the family any more, Megan really is not some embarrassment they will let slip through.
Being a single mom or a soft porn model is certainly not "one step up from being a criminal" for us plebes, but are you trying to tell me with a straight face that in Royal circles that this was all hunky dory, and that the sound of harps and the angelic choruses greeted Mette Marit, Sofia and Tessy instead of controversy that continues to this day in some quarters?
If women like this have always been considered acceptable in Royal circles, why was Koo Stark driven off in 1982? Wallis Simpson in the 1930's Isabel Sartorius of Spain in the 90's?
My point was only that these women(Sofia and MM especially) would not have gotten their respective feet in the door unless their respective families and monarchies r
elaxed their standards considerably,(even in ultra liberal Scandinavia) not what kind of additions/contributions to their families they are making today-which while we are being blunt-is a rather subjective opinion anyway.
And-standards having been considerably...
relaxed...if you will all over Royal Europe, there is no point in believing that there should be any difficulty in accepting Meghan Markle, B-list starlet as HRH the Duchess of Sussex.
It's all so much hypocrisy at this point. My point remains that almost anyone is acceptable as a Royal bride or groom now.
As long as they are IN LOVE of course.
ETA: About Princess Mabel of the Netherlands, whom I admire a lot. She caused herself a tough time because she and the late Friso lied up front about her having been a drug dealer's squeeze. A lot of Dutch people had a problem with that and I kind of see their point.
