I think the show is trying to capatilize on Meghan's relationship with Harry. Here's the promo group picture for the upcoming season:

Suits season 7 first footage released

Meghan is usually third or fourth billed in the opening credits so that makes her a supporting character and she has never been this much in the forefront in a group shot. And, her character Rachel is now a full fledged lawyer so she may be getting more meatier story lines besides being Mike's (Patrick Adams) fiancee' who reacts to his situations.

As you said her character has stronger plot lines this season. Being engaged and now full lawyer. It seems natural progression that her character would move more into forefront. Happens with ensemble casts. Look at any show with ensemble, like greys, characters can play stronger roles different seasons. Much of the writing for season seven would have been done or worked on before her relationship was made public. As for clips released during the event, it's natural to release ones using the actors who were at the event.

I'd disagree. Meghan, like all six of the core cast members, has above the title, single card, credits and is best defined as a series lead. (The exception is Gina Torres, who comes last in the credits but is an "and <name>")

Amanda Schull and Max Topplin are supporting characters; they get their names in the credits over the first scene after the intro.

There are some good explanations here: Let’s talk about “role” definitions. - A Casting Place - Texas Casting at its Best - Dallas, Austin, Houston and here: https://movies.stackexchange.com/qu...rn-how-tv-show-opening-credits-are-structured

At any rate, Rachel was always going to be a bigger character this year, regardless of Meghan's relationship status, because she's now the only main "female lawyer at the firm" character. I'd venture that her position in the poster has more to do with Gina's leaving than Meghan & Harry dating.

Gina Torres leaving is most likely the reason Meghan is getting more story lines. But Rachel has always been a main character, not a supporting one. Imo the show has done nothing to try to capitalize Meghan's relationship with Harry, they've been really good about it, barely mentioning it.

Countessmeout;1993306Though I don't get the hole jean look said:
This is an indication of how well Meghan is prepared to deal with the onslaught of the media if and when it happens. With this appearance in Texas for a promotion of "Suits", she expected to be in the lens of every camera that found her and went about her business knowing they were there and upfront and personal and that's the way it was supposed to be. She handled it was grace and style and she was in full "public" mode to promote her work. This is going to serve her well should she and Harry get engaged and have to face the public.

Sometimes too, in a ensemble series like for example NCIS:LA, a storyline has to be created in order to let the show's story run smoothly because of outside influence. Daniela Ruah (Kensi) had an entire season just about centered around her character being in a helicopter crash and hospitalized because frankly, it was easier that way to conceal her pregnancy during that time. BTW: trivia fact if you like that show. Eric Christian Olsen (Deeks) and Ruah are actually brother and sister-in law in real life. :D

The tabloids like the Fail may be focusing on Meghan as *the* potential wife for a British prince but when it comes down to the business of putting a show on television that keeps an audience coming back season after season, the actors and actresses private lives don't influence the way the show is going to go very much excepting in the case like I've presented above where something has to be worked around.

There were 6 main cast members of Suits in season 1 with equal billing and they were all present today at the reading. They are an ensemble cast. The creator and writer of the show is Aaron Korsh who was also present at the live reading today, credited the entire ensemble for the success of the show. All of the show's promotions starting season 1 has included all 6 of the ensemble. The only difference with season 7 are the career changes of Rachel Zane (Meghan's character) & Mike (Patrick J Adam) and that is something that both characters have been working towards since season 1, nothing to do with the personal lives of the actors. Since Gina Torres left the ensemble went down to 5. A quick Google search easily shows the cast ensemble pictures used for promoting through the 7 years, for those who are not familiar and think that there was not equal billing with the cast.

Patrick J Abrams and Gabriel Macht definitely get higher billing than the other actors - they're the stars (and if you look at the promotional material, they are always at the front, and frequently other cast members are not included at all). Meghan, Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty, and Gina Torres are all supporting characters who have had significant contributions to the show since day one. The arches of their characters have been in development from the beginning, with Meghan's character in season one working towards becoming a lawyer and serving as a love interest to Patrick J Abram's character. If you look at the promotional pictures of the group since season one all focus on Abrams/Macht, with Meghan, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Torres each sometimes being more in the background, and other times being more in the foreground.

Likewise, with the trailers for the overall seasons, they primarily focus on Abrams/Macht, but also look at the other supporting characters.

Acting is a profession, and when actors are able to land a great role on a tv series that becomes successful, and if they are surrounded by top-notch producers, writers, crew and fellow cast members, it's a lucky thing. On a show where everyone is professional and understands what they are there for, things run smoothly and everyone supports everyone else. Of course, many of the actors develop close friendships with crew & cast members off-camera, and there is joking around on set in order to loosen things up with the long hours they put in. (Suits often films at night.)

Most importantly, the show is their bread and butter, and there's no playing around with their respective livelihoods. There's also no interfering into nor exploiting the personal lives of co-workers. Suits is a high class show with high class people involved from top to bottom.

Probably it has been more of a headache for the producers and crew having to deal with the OTT interest in one of their actors, which has nothing to do with their work or her work on the show. Not everyone who has become interested in Meghan is actually tuning into the show on a regular basis I'll bet. If there are more people watching Suits who are truly interested in the show itself, they are probably viewing the DVDs of earlier seasons, and that's hard to quantify unless there's an upswing in people buying the DVDs rather than renting or borrowing from libraries.

Sure there might be some bonus for all involved due to the increased interest and attention being paid to the show because of Meghan's involvement. However, I am not sure whether it has actually been quantified how much Meghan's popularity may have spiked the ratings, if at all. Reportedly, the ratings actually decreased during the sixth season as a direct result of Gina Torres deciding to leave the show after the fifth season in order to move back to L.A. to spend more time with her husband, actor Laurence Fishburne. Acting has its upsides but also some huge downsides. It's been reported that Torres will be working on a spin-off series (about her character Jessica Pearson) that she can work on from her home base in L.A.

Possibly, a real and longer term interest in Suits could develop with people tuning in to see Meghan and becoming hooked on the plot and the characters. But if the novelty for people who aren't already fans is just Meghan, then only seasons 1-7 will be of interest to them should Meghan not continue. And if the show goes on for an 8th season with Meghan no longer a cast member, that may affect ratings simply because there are people who love her character and follow the show because of her character, and not because of who Meghan Markle is dating in her private life.

It looks like Meghan is getting the "royal treatment" being escorted to her plane by airline staff at Heathrow. The same thing happened in Toronto when she was leaving for Austin. I guess she was picking up security when she arrived in Toronto and Austin. But interesting nonetheless.

Everything is not about Harry folks.

When I heard about the ATX panel reading I must admit I had my fingers & toes crossed for Meghan that no one would take the liberty to ask her about her personal life. That would have been extremely tacky if it happened when she was being professional & in front of her colleagues. Luckily no one did, largely because the moderator was the only one allowed to ask questions.

Unfortunately the daily fail had sent a reporter to stalk her all weekend & apparently she was asked about her personal life at some point. There is no evidence to say when the questioning supposedly took place & typical DM article isn't very clear on it. However this gave the fail the headline they'd been looking for.

I found this article that talks about this incident. I agree with its content that it is very disrespectful that people would think it is ok to ask a woman personal questions in a professional environment. I hope this doesn't happen at future events she has to do for the show. Otherwise it will only result in MM not reaching out to fans of the show & her unable to do promotions.

Well, it's not at all unlikely for actors to be asked personal questions though. Not that I disagree that she's only being asked because of who she is dating, but a big marketing value for production companies is the amount of interest an actor is able to gather and personal life plays a big part.

The point of the article is to say women especially have to deal with intrusions into their personal life more so than men. Even in the acting world actresses always get asked these kind of questions more so than their male counterparts.

Meghan clearly doesn't want to talk about her personal life. And if an agreement is made beforehand that no personal questions should be asked in these settings then the interviewer/journalist should respect that. Unfortunately many of these journalists are very shady & will find a way to throw in the question just to get a soundbite!

She appears to be savvy enough to know the media isn't going to follow the rules if they can get away with it....so far she's handling them quite well.

no wonder she stopped posting on instagram.......they stalked her instagram for that article??!!

:previous: When, for some reason, you're thrust into the limelight because of a personal relationship, it can be all intrusive, annoying and totally throw a person off balance.

Harry has met the perfect person to handle this kind of a high profile relationship with calm professionalism. Meghan knows how to handle this intense limelight well and has taken measures to assure that what is private remains private but also has the smarts to continue on doing her very public, professional role as she has always done.

She comes across as a very level headed, secure in her own skin kind of a person that has a more in depth understanding of the life that surrounds Harry than most people would.

I must admit the thohgh only thing I cared about looking at the photos was....

Who is the cute black puppy in one photo? Total animal lover. :p

But the media is pathetically desperate that they would stalk Instagram to put that together. At least they aren't trying to poke in Windows or hire spies to get photos inside. Starting to see why her personal posts have ended.

One can only hope she can take the sheer repetition of the totally inappropriate questions she's asked in totally inappropriate places.

So anyone can be a VIP! That is a good thing for her as reporters access at airports will be severely curtailed.

She is growing on me ;) Dogs, Peonias, Books - not only for decoration purpose ... and how she is handling the media .... till now, I haven't seen anything which tells me, she coun't handle beeing Harrys wife.

Well ...that's a lot of white. The style isn't to my taste for the most part...but I do love the flowers.

Lol, that style only works if you're single with no kids. I like a lady with a clean look to her house though. Bravo Meghan!!

Those kind of houses just look staged and not lived in, IMO. I mean it's great if you like all the white...but too perfect.

Yeah, it's just her there, so she can keep it in that kind of condition. Of course, anyone of her status, who photographs their home, will clean it up before hand. No one is going to post an untidy house before the media.

I think she does what any normal person would do, clean up before posting on social media, especially if you are famous. Since she was involved in building a lifestyle brand, I'm not surprised by the staging.

A lived in house doesn't mean it's messy.

LaRae

I was actually struck by how many pictures looked like a house someone really lives in. In a good way. Most shots of beds or sofas have the kind of lightly rumpled telltale signs that a person was just sitting there. In at least one of the dog photos she's laid a blanket down on the furniture to protect it from shedding fur and dirty paws. The prints and framed posters she's hung on the walls are attractive and also very...normal. I decorate my house with things like that, too.

A lot of times if a person knows the photographs of their living spaces are going to be made public, they'll take precautions to make the room look more antiseptic and impersonal. This way the focus remains on the decor of the space and eliminates what could be a personal glimpse into someone's life.

Although very nice looking, I can imagine the horror thoughts that would run through the mind if perchance there were to be a little one wandering around with a full glass of grape juice or a klutzy friend with a glass of red wine. :D

Right now Meghan is living on her own and with the busy lifestyle she has, I don't picture her as being one to sit home a lot.
