I understand that people have strong views about charity and conservation, but this in not the thread to debate the pros and cons. Please keep the thread about Prince Harry. I've also had to edit and delete a number of posts due to personal attacks. Please remember that personal attacks are against the forum rules. Any further off-topic posts will be deleted.

Prince Harry is due to leave the armed forces this month with his future still unclear, and royal expert James Taylor says he needs to tread carefully.
Prince Harry's recent tour of Australia and New Zealand has proved to be his swansong as a serving officer in the army. On the tour, he combined his tour of duty with a series of engagements centring around the ANZAC and Gallipoli commemorations.
However it's the last time that he was able to combine royal duties with life in the army as he prepares to leave the armed forces after nine years.
His future plans still aren't clear. The prince has said he wants a normal job; this is something we have seen increasingly over the last couple of generations, but for members of the Royal Family having a normal job can prove difficult.
Prince Harry is a popular royal figure. His well-documented indiscretions do not seem to have affected the regard in which he is held in. Despite this, he needs to be careful in the moves he is to make.
The Queen's second son, the Duke of York, left the Royal Navy in 2001. He was hailed as a hero after serving as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands conflict in 1982, but his later career has brought him problems.

Andrew had other problems, post Falklands, including a pretty disastrous marriage. As for Andrew's career as trade envoy, we all know they were other issues involved with that besides the number of air miles!
We don't know what career Harry will pursue after the autumn. He is popular with the public and it's my hope that he will involve himself in some activities which will benefit mankind, such as the environment. I'm sure he will take his time and choose carefully.
Both William and Harry's future direction depends on the continuing health of an 89 year old, of course. While the Queen remains in good health (thank God) they have choices. Should things change then IMO both William and Harry and their spouses will be full time royals and whatever private careers they had will be in the past.

I believe Harry has a plan, but I also believe he will have trouble reintegrating back into civilian life. We will not see much of him for a while and I think that is as it should be. William did the same.
As to the dire warnings of "the second son", yadda, yadda, yadda, Harry has maintained a close relationship with his Uncle Andy and his cousins. If anyone can point out the pitfalls it would have to be Andrew, and I think he will support him as well as Charles.
It irritates me that the "sins" of his youth, prior even to his going to Sandhurst, are still routinely trotted out to prove the "wild, thoughtless, drunken" prince is a loose cannon and nothing but a party prince, and his antics in Las Vegas cemented the view.
Strangely a lot of reasonable, moral, upstanding citizens laughed off the Las Vegas escapades for what they were . . . boys being boys, particularly military ones.

The dangers Harry will face.

Harry shouldn't be in danger if he follows the guidelines.

Whilst it's awful what's happened to her, Safari park/lions + open window isn't smart.

Too many people don't recognise the dangers with wild animals. They think they look cute and cuddly etc and that they can take photos of them out of open windows. Well, that terrible accident shows very clearly that they can't .
As Harry will be working with very experienced rangers and a vet, no chances will be taken in that direction. Harry has been in Africa enough to know the dangers himself, anyway.

I am very sorry this woman is dead and that she died in such horrible circumstances, but I cannot imagine how an adult human being could not realise how dangerous wild lions are, and that it was not a good idea to open the window when they were so close.

It probably doesn't help that there are documentaries about people who raise wild animals from cub-hood and so have a special relationship with them. Clips of these show up on YouTube and Facebook and give the impression that these animals are more socialized than they really are. Even a 'tame' lion or tiger can turn on its owner.

Yes, and these weren't tame hand-reared lions; they were wild. Doesn't everyone know the difference? There were signs everywhere saying keep your windows shut. Apparently the guide had his window down, too, which might have given Katherine Chappell a false sense of security. I'm guessing she never saw "The Ghost and the Darkness".
Hopefully Harry won't make that sort of mistake.

There was a tv series here in the US a couple years ago, a documentary series actually, about when people take wild animals and try to raise them as pets and how said 'pets' ended up killing them. IIRC the show was called 'Fatal Attraction'.

Will Harry be able to undertake investitures in the future. currently the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Prince Charles and Prince William do that so I see no reason why how we should not be able to at some point

No reason why not. I didn't know DoE had ever done an investiture but DoY and DoGlos have carried them out overseas and outside of London/Windsor. Charles will probably need support, and in the future so will William

When has Philip done one? Having Charles, Anne and later on William doing the palace ones is a relatively recent occurrence and they made them shorter so the Queen would have to stand so long.

It would be great if Harry was appointed as Colonel of the Marines, but I still think he will be offered a regiment in the Household Cavalry. I look forward to seeing him ride at the Trooping of the Colour.

The Princess Royal is regimental colonel of the Blues and Royals but it is possible with the Life Guards as I believe Lord Guthrie is soon retiring.
