Autumn and Peter were private citizens. Peter besides being the son of the Princess Royal, lives a normal life. Their wedding was not televised. And even then, he got heavily criticized because he sold the photos.

Harry is another matter. He is a senior working royal. His wedding will be televised for all to see. There is definite expectations for his wedding.

I am sure they will get some of their personal tastes in there but most likely during things like the reception when it actually will be private. See how well the cake went down. Heck there is even criticism that they used American ink on invitations.

Not that I think she’ll have more than one adult in the bridal party, but HMQ had adult attendants rather than kids. So to say the Brits don’t do that is not true. That’s something that started much later.

——-

As for someone that said at Meghan’s age and this being her second wedding means she shouldn’t have a big bridal party, how do you account for the kids then? They are bridesmaids after all. She’ll have a decent sized bridal party and her age and her prior marriage has nothing to do with it. Her prior marriage is being treated as a non issue here.

If Meghan has four small attendants, George, Charlotte, Ivy Mulroney and Jasper Dyer, and one adult, perhaps Lindsay or Heather who could help supervise the littles I don't think that would be classed as a large bridal party, would it?

The post above with the link about the armed forces ceremonial support came as I was typing. I think that all sounds absolutely wonderful and very supportive in that these are units Harry has connections with. Sounds like he will be in uniform too!

This wedding will look so grand and wonderful. The uniforms will bring so much grandeur to it.

In a way, I think the armed forces near and dear to Harry participating in the carriage ride through Windsor after the wedding is kind of like bringing some of the pomp and circumstance to the wedding that may have happened if was in London at Westminster Abbey.

Now I am 99.9% sure that Harry will be in uniform. :D

Me too Osipi! I couldn't imagine after his service and then working with the wounded afterwards. he wouldn't have a strong military presence at the wedding.

LaRae

So am I Osiipi, and that makes me very happy. Nothing against morning suits but
There's also going to be a band playing, I think, so it all adds to what will be a great atmosphere.

Yeah I am thrilled for it! The military is such a big part of Harry's life. Glad it will be represented well. And I agree that he will definitely be in uniform. This all but confirmed it.

The streets will be lined by the 1st Battalion Irish Guards and the Band Of the Irish Guards will provide the music.

I guess this probably means William will wear his Irish Guards uniform.

Probably. And the groom will be wearing his uniform as Captain General of the Royal Marines.

Unless the Queen gives him a position in a different unit, like she did with William.

So from what I'm reading the Household Guard is going to line both sides of the steps of St George's (staircase party is the term I'm seeing used)....that is going to be gorgeous...to see Harry/Meghan come down those steps!

Richard Palmer:

Members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment will form a step lining party at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle as part of the wedding. The State Trumpeters and a travelling Escort of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment will also provide ceremonial support.

The wedding is private?

It's private in the sense that it's not a state occasion and they aren't bound to as many restrictions, but this is obviously a public occasion.

I'm not familiar with the military. Can someone explain to me what's a staircase party?

Yes and I cannot wait to see that! I don't know if they will do any type of salute or draw swords as they come down, not sure of the customs of the British military etc.

LaRae

I think so. I wonder whether they will hold their swords high to form an arch so the bride and groom walk out underneath. I think Camilla and APB had that.

The military will line the staircase. William had one at Westminster Abbey except they lined the entrance as there is no staircase per se

I think if he wears his blues and Royals uniform he can use swords. Not sure it’s a tradition the marines use.

The Marines in the U.S. do...but they may be different in the U.K.

LaRae

Maybe they do win the U.K. as well. I’m only guessing. They’re probably just figuring out the logistics of it

It isn't uncommon for soldiers from one's regiment, [or colleagues from one's unit in the Police Force] to 'cross swords' and form a 'Sabre Arch' in Britain, but i've never seen it done where there are lots steps down from a Church door...

I think we will see some foreign royals at the wedding.

I think we will see some foreign royals at the wedding.

There’s a protocol officer who works at the palace to handle this sort of thing.

There will be a representative from Greece. Probably a couple of the Duke of Edinburgh’s German relatives. After that it’s difficult to say.

Harry has no relationship with any crown heads of Europe or the Middle East.

Charles does though. Space is limited and 600 seats fills up pretty fast when you’re a royal.

Just a wait and see.

I would expect to see one representative from the Greek Royal Family, and one each from the DoE’s sisters’ descendants. Other than that... it’s been made clear that this is a private, not state or semi-state wedding. If there are any foreign royals, I wouldn’t expect more than one couple per house, and only reigning houses. Even then, I’m not really expecting it.
