My heart goes out to Meghan. What a truly horrific thing to do to your daughter just days before her wedding. While it would be bad enough if she weren't known at all, the fact that millions of people are going to be watching makes it exponentially worse. Screw her father and his whole family.

I truly hope her mother will walk her down the aisle Saturday, because SHE is Meghan's family and deserves the honor but if not, I, too, hope that Prince Charles will be asked to do so. You know that William, Kate, and Meghan's friends totally have her back right now.

Interesting that many are seeking a man to walk Meghan down the aisle. In this instance I think her mother is more than qualified. #royalwedding
I agree with Victoria. While Charles is a nice idea, I would love to see Doria walk Meghan down the aisle. I would prefer it actually.

I just read Rebecca English's piece. I am a little worried about Mr Markle who English described as being in a "bad place" and Meghan is overcome with worry.

I really hope he keeps himself together or gets help for whatever his issue(s) are. Meghan doesn't need more crap thrown at her.

If indeed he made up the story about the heart attack he makes my blood boil. For all the dads who never got to give their daughter away because they had died and this disgusting man uses it for an excuse.

I would like to post what I really feel about this whole disaster but would be blocked.

Between the KP statement and Rebecca English's piece, I'm beginning to wonder if there were stuff going on in the background that we don't know about.

I felt deeply sad for Meghan to have to go through this and pretty much blamed her father for it. After all this, I think maybe it's best the public and media back off a bit and let them sort this out. What's clear to me is that Meghan doesn't seem to blame her father. In the wake of this shockwave, I thought she was the victim in all of this. However, it surprised me to see that she's still pleading for the media to back off of her father. I honestly don't think Meghan is as distant from her father as some on here have concluded. In one of the darkest hour in the week leading up to her wedding, I don't think she'd be pleading for someone else if she wasn't close to him.

I think Charles will give her away. Prince Philip gives her away, that's crazier.

I now wonder if there were behind the scene action. Kensington and Buckingham Palaces told Sr bow out gracefully or they will come for him and his money grubbing kin.

What I don’t get about Rebecca English’s piece is Harry blaming himself and thinking he brings doom and gloom to everybody who gets close to him. I would be very worried about his mental health if he truly believes that.

The source for that Daily Mail article is supposedly someone close to Harry and Meghan. People in Harry and William's inner circle don't talk to the media, so I'd take that article with a huge grain of salt.

Exactly how I feel having lost my own father to a heart attack when I was 21. I would give anything to have had him with me for the most important times of my life, but fate had other plans. This man made choices that embarrassed and humliated his daughter in a very public manner right before she is about to be married in front of millions of people. My heart aches for her.

I've been trying to take in all the events of today and process. I think that there seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes that we just aren't privy too. I'm certainly not making excuses for her father, but is it possible he's got some mental issues going on? I know from dealing with it in my own family, you can't make grown people get help. They literally have to hurt someone else or themselves before the state will step in. We know his other kids are good for nothings, perhaps Meghan has known this all along and has been trying to help as she can. And it might also explain why she and Harry and KP continue to ask for privacy and respect for him. They may know more about whatever his situation is than we do.

Something does not add up here, and I truly believe there is more going on than meets the eye. It is obvious her father was a good father to her growing up. It is one of the reasons Samantha hates her so much. And from everything Meghan has said she adores her father. This is probably gut wrenching and painful for her. If he does not come Doria certainly should be able to walk her down the aisle. She has, obviously been her rock and constant support from day one. But, I disagree that her walking by herself would be sad or lonely. If she chooses that route I would say good for her.

Thomas Sr. has obviously made a mess of things and it had, cast a,shadow over Meghan and Harry's day. But I have a hard time believing one goes from radio silence for months on end, to this overnight. Something is going on with her dad.

Uh, no. My dad died suddenly of a massive heart attack at age 52--I am not offended or hurt by this story. Maybe I'm just pragmatic. He'd been gone 9 years when I got married, of course I wish he'd been there, but I can't be upset by people using hyperbole.
I do not think Tom Sr truly had a heart attack. I do think Meghan's dad was feeling stressed and may have had symptoms that can also be symptoms of a heart attack.

This was my reaction, too. And, unfortunately, I can think of a lot of things that could cause him to be under that kind of stress. I'm not going to speculate, but just from looking at him, he does not come across as a particularly healthy man. The pleas for understanding, and the unnamed source who Rebecca English references make me wonder if there really is something going on that is more deserving of our compassion than anger.

So, after feeling angry on Meghan's behalf, I'm going to sit back and hope that whatever is going on gets resolved. It's very, very sad, and I'm feeling sorry for all the parties.

I agree. KP's statement was the most telling to me.

Sigh, can it just be Saturday? Between the media's bs (and the media has been ROTTEN since this relationship began), her family and now this? I am exhausted, and I can't imagine how she feels.

Lost my dad when he was only 53 to a massive heart attack. I find the idea that someone made this up (Tom Markle having a heart attack) to be disgusting if true.

Let's stay away from speculating on Thomas Markle's mental health, please. Any further posts on that topic will be deleted.

And this may be one of her dad's problems with all this--millions of people watching. Maybe it is a bit overwhelming.

That just doesn't make sense. KP wouldn't be asking for understanding for him on Meghan's behalf if they were gunning for him.

So it looks like the DM story is wrong. Thomas Markle spoke to TMZ again and said that Meghan hasn't reached out to him since finding out that he's not going to the wedding. He also said he thinks Doria should walk her down the aisle.

I hope Meghan walks down the aisle with Harry or alone.
