I think some people get the focus wrong. The main point is to encourage people to support charity works rather than send any gift. If you want to support a specific type of charity you definitely can do so, but if you have no idea they just give you some suggestions. You are not necessarily required to donate to their suggestions. There are so so so many different kinds of charity and it's impossible for them to include all of them.

No one is forced to support any of these charities. We can all go out and find a charity from the realm of commonwealth or any other country to support in the name of Harry and Meghan. Or in our own name. Or we can donate to any, all or none of these charities Meghan and Harry suggested. I really don't see the issue some are having here.
I am glad, that they chose these 7, and only 7, because these are all small charities, and aside the donations, these charities will greatly benefit from the publicity. Had they mentioned 20 or so charities, none of them would've got so much attention.

I think that anyone who has a problem with supporting charities should set up their own supplemental list of charities and personally support them in M&H's name. Problem solved.

"Kensington Palace said: It has been decided that an official list of political leaders – both UK & international - is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding. Her Majesty's Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household."
No Obamas or Trumps.

Royal sources say anyone at the wedding will have a direct relationship with Meghan or Harry. The decision to have no officials at the wedding was taken due to the smaller size of St George's Chapel and the fact that Prince Harry is not in direct line succession #royalwedding*

So no foreign royals and no politicianss. Not even Prime Minister Theresa May is attending

I fully expect Prince Seeiso and the Trudeaus to attend but that is only because they are personal friends of the couple. The Obamas are also friendly but that is just drama they didn't need. It is no surprise the press release also included a statement indicating they would be meeting up soon though.

I can't imagine that Harry and/or Meghan could care less. Having people like Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn or Trump sitting in the pews would be far from their minds.
Members of the public learned this week that they will be among the 2,640 people invited to Windsor Castle grounds on May 19th.

I'm happy the political factions are not attending and Harry and Meghan can have a peaceful day.

If Harry traded an Obamas invite for the ability to exclude all officials from the wedding including the British PM, then I'm going to score a win for Harry in that negotiation. Well played.
Just speculating but that's how it reads to me given reported post-engagement gov't pressure and today's comment re: looking forward to meeting with the Obamas soon.

I doubt Harry traded anything.
I don't think there was any intention to invite the Obamas.
Harry and Meghan probably knew that would be open to a lot of media speculation and detract from their enjoyment of their wedding day.
One of the advantages in his position is that he has a lot more freedom to do as he pleases.

I'm glad they announced, social media was spreading lies and using the wedding for political leverage. This ensures less political coverage and less problems with security and hopefully they can enjoy their day.

Yeah, there were a lot of 'confirmations' on twitter, that Obamas were invited Trump wasn't etc. I'm glad that all is cleared now, and there is no political power play around this wedding.

The latest lie was that the Clintons and the Obamas where invited. Which would have been amazing, but given this awful political environment would have turned the wedding into political theater and opened up the wedding to be a battle ground between the extremes on both side.

I think he and Meghan would’ve like to have invited the Obama’s, but just decided to keep politicians from the guest list and just focus on family, friends and charitable representation.
I’m sure the Obama’s understand. They will be meeting up with the couple at some point. Especially at the Invictus Games.

I understand not inviting a huge number of senior politicians.
Still, it's a little weird the Prime Minister is not attending. I mean, I wouldn't expect the PM to go to the wedding of Eugenie but Harry is different.

Invite the PM then people would expect Corbyn to be invited, and also Nicola Sturgeon, all with spouses and people from the NI assembly, etc etc.

I imagine the PM should be fine with it since it avoids any political problems in the future. Including all political figures puts everyone on the same ground.

Harry is NO different.. SO far down the line of Succession [now], as to be unimportant in the political 'scheme of things', as are his cousins.

I think the US Presidents (all of them irrespective of party) tend to come with more security baggage and fuss than the royal family prefer - i think this was an easy and welcome decision
