I am so hoping that Mia Tindall is one of the flower girls!

Lovely comment from Mike.

I also like this quote regarding Harry:

He said: “He has matured perfectly and found his way.
“He’s in a great place, where he wants to be. I’m really happy for him.”

Since no more of the original nugget is left I think it would be a beautiful gesture if Diana's wedding band was given to Meghan. It would balance Kate getting the engagement ring with the other daughter-in-law getting Diana's other marital-related jewellery. PLUS since there's no more of the original nugget left it would be really special. Even if Diana's ring were to be melted and reforged for Meghan...the significance and sweetness of that gesture would be so great.

A new nugget of gold was given to the royal family in the 80's and Sarah, Andrew, Sophie, Edward and Kate's rings were all made from this. There would be no need for Meghan to have Diana's old wedding ring.

What happened to Diana's wedding ring anyway? Was it returned to Charles along with her other personal jewellery after her death?

I think her wedding band is in the care of William and Harry. They have all her jewels, including her signet ring. Charles had a Prince of Wales Feathers ring made for Diana as well.

Yes I'm aware of the new nugget. :flowers:I'm only suggesting Meghan being given Diana's band because I think it would be a lovely gesture and would balance Kate getting the engagement ring.
Also the original nugget is extra special IMO as it's the one that started the tradition.

Meghan already have a two diamonds from Diana’s jewelry included in her engagement ring.

Harry has six godchildren? I heard only about two:

  • Frederick "Fred" Pettifer (born 2001)
  • Jasper George Galloway Dyer (born 2012)

Godchildren aren't always made public. Harry said in an interview at one point that he had about six godchildren.

Yes, and I think there's a Van Cutsem boy around that age who might be included.

But you are probably right about only two page boys. Too bad, because the pairs look so nice.

As for polls, I have absolutely NO faith in them, after the last presidential election.
The thing is, the people being polled simply do NOT tell the truth!

Both Edward and Hugh's youngest sons (Hugh's youngest kid all together) were born in 2012. Maybe since Hugh's daughter was used by William, Edward's son Louis would be chosen (Hugh's four year old is named Charles). Edward is Charles' godson, and was a pageboy at his wedding to Diana.

I wonder why they picked an American episcopal Bishop they don’t know or have ties to, to give the address at the wedding.

Meghan's father's family is Episcopalian. I would think it is likely a nod to her side of the family. Its not a matter of a personal connection to the man. Like having the Archbishop of Canterbury do the wedding is more about his roll. Michael Curry is the head of the Episcopalian church.

I like it once again shows that some of Meghan's background is getting in there.

As much as I love Mia, I really hope she isn't. Especially if they only have 2 page boys.

I am really hoping we see a balance of both bride and groom in bridal party. And Meghan is extremely close to both Litt girls, as well as Ivy. I would hate to see her have to sacrifice one of the children in her life, so that Harry gets a fourth person in the bridal party. Considering her bond with Remi, Rylan and Ivy, them being involved is right up there with George and Charlotte.

And before anyone yells 'but they aren't her family, blood is more important', not to every one. Many people consider their friends to be family. As we know, Meghan is obviously not close to her extended family. And those three little girls are a very special place in her life.

Meghan’s father is episcopalian in name only. Meghan wasn’t baptised in the church. It’s not like the Bishop was once her local pastor or something.

Picking a random member of the episcopal church to give the address is very odd imo.

The Bishop of London gave the address at the Cambridge wedding and he had not only a connection to W&K but is also very close close to the BRF in general

Meghan may not have been baptized, but her father is Episcopalian. And we don't know if 'in name only'. We know she went to church growing up.

They didn't choose some random Episcopalian priest. He is the head of the church. He is the 'archbishop of Canterbury' of the American Episcopalian church. Do you think the archbishop is chosen to do royal weddings because he has a personal connection? No. He is chosen because he is the leader of the church.

Meghan/Harry perhaps heard his sermons, was keen to have an American clergyman due to Meghan's background and decided to ask him since he is a leader in the broader Angelican communion. I love that myself. Another way these two are bridging worlds

I am thrilled with the inclusion of Bishop Curry. I've seen his sermons on occasion at the National Cathedral and recall him as a wonderfully dynamic orator.

It's their wedding to arrange how they themselves want? Why is this even an issue

An issue? It’s a discussion forum. Opinions and all that.

Trust me, I understand why he’s been asked to give the address. But I stand by my opinion that it doesn’t make any sense to me.

Will we see any African-American child in the bridal escort?

Don't know, but probably not. Meghan's close friends are a "mixed" bunch, but we don't really know about her relationship with her mom's side of the family. I'm not sure if there is a young child from that side.

WOW...Really. You nor I nor anyone else knows ALL of the personal connections of Harry and Meghan, and to put it all down to because "he's black and American" is so...I don't even know what's the appropriate word for what you just wrote.

How about he's the head of church in the U.S. that is equivalent to the Anglican church, who in this instance just happens to be black.

I'm sure this is probably why he was asked to participate, but it's still an interesting choice (and IMO, a very nice one, too). The presiding bishop of the Episcopal church is not, strictly speaking, exactly comparable to the Archbishop of Canterbury in status or authority.

I agree, I doubt the decision was anything to do with him or his family. More likely it had to do with Meghan’s nationality plus the fact the espiscopalian church is the American version of the Anglican Church. Just another pleasant added touch in acknowledgement of her American nationality.

Precisely what I believe also. It's a nice gesture, and not because "he's black and American," as quoted from upthread.

Random? he is the Head of the Episcopalian church in America which is on par with the Church of England. They did'nt just randomly pick anyone.

Also Meghan was baptized and confirmed in the Church of England which is on par with the Episcopalian church in America.

He is random as in they’ve never met him nor do they have ties to him.

At least with the Archbishop of Canterbury there’s a connection. He baptised Meghan and apparently can vouch for her religious epiphany.

I have absolutely no reason why this Bishop has been plucked from Chicago other than for the reasons I’ve already stated.

His address should be interesting.

While I really like it that this wedding clearly is about two people and their backgrounds being united, this particular nod is a little odd imo. Why ask the primate of a church you were never a member of to do the sermon while you just joined the CoE (and I am aware they are part of the same Anglican family) and the groom has been a member of that same church all his life.

The gospel choir is a really nice nod to her background (if I understand it correctly the choir is part of her mother's church), this is a very formal nod to a background she formally doesn't have.

Probably because Meghan is American and the Episcopal Church is the Anglican church in the United States.

Michael Curry is actually the current presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church USA.

He wasn't plucked....you make him sound like they threw a whole bunch of priest names in a bowl and picked a random one.

He is the leader of the Episcopalian church. Plain and simple.

Why was the archbishop of Canterbury chosen to baptize Meghan??? Random choice or because he was the head of the church???

Just because she was not baptized, doesn't mean that she has no connection to the church.

Meghan was raised in an Episcopalian family. It is said she went to church with both parents, and her father's family is Episcopalian. One of her uncles is a bishop in the church.

I notice people praise when her AA roots are brought in. But heaven forbid any of her father's roots be considered. She is a mix of both parents.

And the Episcopalian church is the Anglican church of the US. So it is a nod to the fact she is American and Anglican.

I fully agree with AlowVera and others that this choice wasn't random at all. They picked the primate of the Episcopal church of America, I do think they consider it an added bonus that he is Aftican-American.

Still I think it odd as Meghan was never a member of (t)his church.

All Anglican churches are in full communion, so as a member of the CoE, she is in communion too with the Episcopal Church USA.

The Church of England and the BRF are constitutionally linked. Meghan is getting married in a royal peculiar under the jurisdiction of The Queen. CoE Bishops sit in the House of Lords. The Queen is Supreme Governor.

The American episcopal church is in communion with the CoE but that’s it. Yes he’s the leader, but still zero connection to Meghan or her family.

Trying to compare the two is really grasping at straws.

I wouldn't say people praise when her AA roots are brought. See the drama around the gospel choir :ermm:

Some folks have issues with Meghan and/or Harry and thus see anything they do = bad. :bang:

Obviously, Meghan wanted to include American elements in the service. That includes the choice of music and having an American bishop delivering the sermon.

It was assumed that Bishop Curry was only picked because he is AA and never took into account that he is on par with the Archbishop of Canterbury. In fact it was Justin Welby who suggested he be the speaker because of his reputation as a great speaker.

Any choice which is related to her AA heritage has been degraded and picked apart.
