The Duke of York was appointed Colonel of the Grenadier Guards on 1 December 2017. He has been seen practising his riding. Presumably the first time we will see him on horseback with be this year's Trooping of the Colour.

They aren't. But you asked about him being appointed a royal colonel. Not all royal colonels ride in trooping.
The reality is he has just recently been made the equivalent of a royal colonel. The chances he will get a second appointment (when his brother only has one) so that he can ride in Trooping seem miniscule if that. Andrew only now has been appointed a colonel of the household, so he gets to ride in trooping. Edward still doesn't. I don't believe the queen will see any rush to appoint him a second colonel position, so he can ride this year.

It’s funny of all the royal commentators out there (not talking about tabloid writers) but serious royal experts, Bruce is the one to make the suggestion of morning suit.
He certainly knows both sides of the equation. Royal history commentator, works at the College of Arms and sometimes people forget he’s a war veteran. Served in the Falklands Islands and still very much active in the military.
Not that I care. Harry served in the army and is entitled to wear a uniform if he wants

There's more build-up for Meghan/Harry's wedding among sewing enthusiasts. I just heard that McCalls and Simplicity have put together a promo sewalong (they do other sewalongs for their sewing savvy followers) themed around the royal wedding. At first I thought it might be a joint charity-focused project like a quilt or such. But no, it's just about individual sewing projects using McCall's, Simplicity or Butterick sewing patterns, or other personal design inspirations. It's organized on Facebook, and it promotes McCall's products, as well as highlighting their affiliated sewing bloggers around the world. Everyone who joins the project submits their final design sometime in April, and there will be contest winners apparently. I'm not interested in joining the contest. But it's nice to be inspired by some of the projects since I do some sewing.

(Ha ha, see a couple of Instagram replies where the commenters are honest about being 'jealous' of Meghan; I think it's best to examine exactly what they believe they're jealous of, and then try to come away inspired instead. )

It's nice, if true, regarding Harry extending wedding invitations to both Chelsy and Cressida, although Chelsy being invited is not surprising.

I didn't like William's uniform he wore to his wedding, I felt Harry looked much better in his black and gold. Charles look d fantastic in his wedding uniform.

It wasn't my favorite either. But I do think it was better than the RAF alternative.
(I heard William really wanted to wear his RAF uniform, but the Queen didn't like it and insisted on the red one.)

I also heard they are to wear the highest ranking uniform (whatever branch that is) which is why Harry is expected to wear his newest dark navy uniform. IIRC it's the position he took over from his grandfather.

Charles didn’t get married in the uniform of his highest rank. I’m not fully sure why the Queen insisted on the scarlet tunic. Like Charles, William also has a very smart navy uniform he could have worn.
I think there was a a little bit of symbolism at work. The Queen was preparing for a State Visit to Ireland just after the wedding and I think she liked the idea of William wearing his Irish Guards red tunic.
I’m still intrigued by Alastair Bruce’s comment of Harry wearing a morning suit although my gut tells me he’ll wear a uniform.

I read recently that the Queen likes the scarlet uniforms. From what she wears herself, the Queen clearly enjoys bright colors. I think Harry will look good in his royal blues uniform with red stripes on the sides of his pants and the red and gold sash across his chest.

I can in some reality see Harry wear his morning suit, but I doubt it and really hope he wears one of his uniforms. At least in the US, its tradition to wear your military uniform for your wedding even if you are no longer in active service (or at least tradition in my family :/)

I think for William it was more about it was a new appointment. He had just recently been appointed, so the queen thought it important he wear it.
The whole 'most senior position' usually is more for military events like Remembrance day.

And in the BRF it is tradition, for those who served, to wear an uniform as well. At least first wedding. No matter the size or location (Tim Laurence and Anne married in a very small private wedding and he still wore his naval uniform).

Prince Harry should marry in uniform. He should marry in a army uniform.
It would be nice to see Harry marry in uniform than morning suit like his uncle Edward and great-uncle Lord Snowdon.

I think Harry will be in Uniform. I also think Charles, William and Dukes of Kent, York, Gloucester and Prince Michael of Kent will also wear uniforms.
Meghan is marrying a man who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and he’s a senior royal.

While I hope he wears a uniform, with his ties to the military and it being a private wedding it doesn't have to be one with the most red. Then again, he may wear a morning suit.

Even if it wasn't a private wedding, wearing one with red is definitely not a requirement. People simply seem to think it makes him pop more to have it.
I don't think anyone will be disappointed. Harry has dedicated his life to the military, with Invictus and walking with the wounded since he left the army. Wearing his uniform will be even more symbolic then his dad or brother.

Private only as opposed to being a State or Semi-State wedding. It is not either of those.

I totally agree with you on this one. William's uniform hurt my eyes and he didn't look very comfortable wearing it - he seemed to drown. Harry looked much better (although scared to stand at the altar, and it wasn't even his own wedding ).
Charles looked great, yes.
So Harry (or his grandmother for that part): you'd better not wear a bright uniform. It doesn't suit you.
