Somebody mentioned Tom Cruise earlier in this thread as an example, he used to sue the papers for everything, having basically unlimited money resources and top lawyers etc. But after some time, he stopped, realizing that every action/counterstatement will result in even more headlines, eventually public opinion will turn against you (Harry: elephant) and it's a never ending circle of headlines, reporters waiting for the next story etc.
He stopped, kept his head down with all his private issues etc, and concentrated on what is best at: acting. There is hardly any story about him anymore in the papers, and his movies are super successful blockbusters. People got bored with Cruise, but they respect what he does.
The secret is not to generate interest in the person, but in the serious work you do.
Unless you need the interest in the person to generate work. Or for your ego.
