While waiting for the live stream to begin, let's look at this interview in which Joachim explains that when he got divorced from Alexandra, it was his father he turned to for support, and it was his father who gave him the crucial support.

During that period, PH and Joachim grew closer. They were no longer merely father and son, they became close friends.

Joachim now feels the same with Nikolai:
Jeg kan mærke, at vi er ved at være der, hvor vi nærmer os et venskabeligt plan. Det er ikke sådan, at vi var uvenskabelige før, men nu er vi der, hvor vi går fra at være far-søn til at være ven-ven. Og det er en meget stor følelse. Der er noget fuldkomment over at nå helt dertil. Og jeg har tænkt over, at det også var det, jeg oplevede med min far

It is lovely that all the kids are invited. Nice to make them feel a little bit grown up for a night.

Friends, relatives, former co-workers (among them some from Hong Kong) former comrades in arms and also the here in DK, popular former French ambassador, who has become a good friend of M&F. It was a nice touch that France is also represented, albeit indirectly as country.
The former ambassador is a well-known face here, alas not always in connection with happy events.

I'm sure Athena and Josephine will be seated next to each other - that's going to be lively! :lol:

It has been noticed in the press that two couples and Caroline Fleming were late. I.e. arriving after the royals.
One couple sneaked right past QMII who was standing in the door waiting for Joachim.
Caroline Fleming arrived after M&F, but she sure wasn't in a hurry to get inside! Posing and chatting with journalists. She excused herself with her flight from London having been delayed.
And the last couple arrived well after J&M had gone inside.

Come on! These are all people who are used to move around in royal circles.
Bad form.

I noticed Alexandra with her new husband and Prince Nikolaos seeming strolled across the square. I guess they either stayed at M&F or borrowed Benedikte's apartment for the final dress up.
 
The birthday celebrations for Joachim are bigger than I expected them to be but perhaps I'm used to the BRF here in the UK having low profile birthdays :D
The photo of the family is lovely and little Athena has grown up so much! I love how she was leaning on to Marie in the photos of the family on the red carpet. They seem to be very close. I bet Athena and Josephine will have a ball together tonight :lol:

It must be wonderful to celebrate last year and this, both of your son's 50th birthday. To see them happy and with all 8 grandkids tonight., a true joy.

Joachim's family looked really nice! I only wondered why Henrik wore a normal suit instead of a tuxedo like his brothers and cousins.
 
Lovely to see Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana of Greece in attendance my favourite Greek Princely couple.

And I am glad yo see that Josephine is first and foremost a normal child with all those bruises on her legs.

Yep. A real little princess has got bruises on her legs, as one comment read. :lol:
The girls also wore the gold wristband they got when they were five. And so did Princess Alexandra.

Yesterday, 11 June Prince Joachim in the Armed Forces marking his 50th birthday.

uring the day, His Royal Highness was among other things introduced to the work at Holstebro Barracks and Oksbøl Barracks. Here, the Prince got exhibited material and was informed about current tasks.

The day began with a breakfast arrangement with Chief of Defense Bjørn Bisserup in the Defense Command, where the head of the Defense Staff and Chief of Staff attended."

Summary of a number of articles in Billed Bladet #24, 2019.

As you know Joachim was celebrated with a gala dinner at Amalienborg.
That has been well-covered already, so I will simply add some trivia.

Joachim's extensive family could just about fit into Crown One, a Daimler from 1970. A six-seater.

QMII wore a dress sewn by Annette Freifeldt.
Athena wore a dress by Jacadi.
Our Marie wore a brooch that is part of a set from Queen Alexandrine.
She carried a clutch from Jimmy Choo.

Christian accidentally stepped on mother's dress on the way inside.
Josephine wore a dress by Elsa Adams.
She also wore a thin necklace.
Isabella wore a brooch.
Mary wore a dress by Jesper Høvring.
A clutch by Judith Leiber.
A large ring by Børge Niels Knudsen and earrings by Ole Lynggaard.

Perhaps he outgrew them?

Or he should have asked his mother before selecting the program on the washing machine?

Or he should have kept them locked up, so that his younger brother Felix wouldn't put all his clothes into the drier just before going to this dinner?

I am assuming an almost 20-year-old man dresses himself.
 
My english is bad , I wanted to know , if it was made by a House from which he is/was "mannequin"

not too short - it´s fashionable, you know! Nikolai is one of the few male royals who shows some style. When I think of most royal men, although being young or comparingly young, dressing like they were 60 something it makes me shudder...:eek::ohmy::sad:
