Though one would be certain she adores it, that is one ugly engagement ring...
It does seems somewhat of a tribute to Marie's homeland though which is a personal touch, and that's a pleasantry in itself.

This is fantastic news! A wedding for 2008! I knew they would get married...I am just surprised that its this soon. And kudos to them for keeping it a secret! They will spend a majority of their marriage in the public eye...they are entitled to some privacy if only for a couple of months.
I am not a fan of the ring...buts its not mine...and as long as Marie is happy with it. That's all the matter.
Congrats to the couple!

I think it's very sweet that Joachim helped design the ring and even put a bit of nationalism into the design, but the ring is godawful. Like if I were Marie, I would be right now trying to figure out how to get rid of it. My recommendation: choose a wedding ring that is so big it can't be worn with the engagement ring, and then phase the engagement ring out.

I have two questions for you all. 1) Why did they speak in English at the press conference and not in Danish? And 2) If they got engaged in the beginning of summer then why did they have to wait so long before announcing it?
|
I think that they did not speak in Danish because Marie hasn't started learning Danish yet, or she doesn't speak enough to converse in it. She speaks very good English, though, and so does Joachim! I think his English is better than Frederik's, and he has a British accent, it seemed.
BTW, does anyone have the press conference without the Danish language over it? I speak some Danish, but I had a hard time discerning the English.

Joachim really surprised me, he is a very well spoken person and Marie's accent is very nice. They seem like a good couple, now we will have two princesses to talk about!

Do y'all really think Marie is concerned about the ring? She is about to be a PRINCESS! She can have any ring she wants. She is starting a new chapter in her life! I missed the whole Mary engagement and wedding since I was not following royalty then. This is exciting to follow.

Iam so excited for them. They looked so happy during the photographs and during the press conference. It is kind of funny how the future sister-in-laws names are so alike.

Oppss sorry, I forgot about that detail. It's just that after they brought their girlfriends to their summer residence in France to spend the summer with, an engagement is announced the next month, so that led me to think that way, but that of course is wrong.
So, no balcony scene for Joachim and Marie?

I'm sure Ms Cavellier's very pleased with the ring. It afterall represents so much more than just an aesthetic appearance. Though to me it's quite an unattractive piece, but then again so was Alexandra's imo. And the fact I can't stand yellow gold quite possibly has something to do with it.lol. It's much to wide and to be perfectly honest, seems more like a piece of costume jewellery, than any engagemnt ring (though the price tag would no doubt state otherwise). From the photo's I've seen, I think someones been paying a little attention to the mannerisms of a certain future Queen Consot... I'm hopeful Marie shall be good for Joachim and a wonderful ambassador for Denmark and I look forward to their nuptials.

Congratulations to the couple! Marie is going to be very popular in Denmark. She is beautiful and looks so in love. She seems very down to earth. Mary watch out! Congrats again.

Hardly a competition, infact, there is no comparison to be made imo. Marie shall become and will remain a Princess of Denmark, whereas Mary shall remain Crown Princess and become Queen of Denmark.
Mary need watch out for no one, as her position in court and in public is equalled only by that of her husbands.

Ekstra Bladet - Frede droppede frokosten
What does this article say? I don't know any Danish word and the only thing I can understand there are the names (and I did not find an option in google language tools for automatically translating Danish to English). It has the picture of the newly engaged couple with the council but then the two subtitles are Kronprins Frederik and then something about Mary?

Congrats!
I have a few questions....
1) I thought they the PR of the royal family would have given her some advice or a class on how to deal with the press in this press conference?? it just seems weird to me that she can't speak a word of Danish during the 15 minutes (or..did i miss that part?) If I remember correctly, Mary & Alex both spoke some Danish (maybe a few sentence or something) during her engagement press conference?
2) she doesn't have a clue what kind of organizations she'd support as a princess? Would there be a lot of other organizations available since Alexandra and Mary both have quite a few organizations that they support already.
btw...I think that the engagement looks weird with the stones on a golden band...it think it would look better on silver band or sth....
the commentator's voice is so loud that you can't really hear what Joachim and Marie are saying....anyone think that way?

She has probably received some instructions, but I don't necessarily think they included: speak in Danish. Alexandra's "big" speech in Danish didn't come until three days before the wedding, when she had had at least 200 lessons in the language. Mary had had Danish lessons before the press conference. Marie hasn't. IMO, if she hasn't been taught intensively in the language, and can speak it fairly fluently, it would be best to leave it alone. The Danish press have a tendency to remember mistakes done with their language (evidence one: Prince Henrik).

There are always enough organizations

If you'll look through the thread, you'll see that it is a common annoyance. You can't hear what they're saying, and because the commentator talks when they're talking, you can't really hear what he's saying either - thus missing quite a bit of it.

Quiet, you mean? well, in their press conference Joachim said that he is proud of how she handled the media attention, so I guess she is extrovert, yes, but in a way her future husband likes it.
Aren't we all here some of the same kind of character? We all enjoy talking here even though we have no idea who might read this... Is this necessarily a bad character trait? As Marie showed she is well able to keep quiet if she has to. Okay, dropping a hint... How would we have felt, I wonder, being engaged to a prince since summer, being asked all the time by journalists about it and having to keep quiet till the State Council and the Queen consent to the marriage? It didn't leak at all, except for the small little hint in the end - I doubt I would have been able to keep my mouth shut. But either Marie has very good, trustworthy friends or she was able to hold her tongue....

I think Marie is very sweet and I'm sure she will fit in to her role in the Royal Family. IMO Princess Mary will always have the bigger role and more attention from the press because her position is very different from Marie's.
Do Frederik and Joachim spend a lot of time together socially? I don't suppose Mary or Marie have had a lot of time to socialise (or not any time that has been covered by the press) or get to know one another and it isn't guaranteed that just because you're married to brothers you'll like each or be best friends. (just my opinion)
On a more superficial note it would appear that the Danish princes have a fondness for brunettes with dark eyes

Well after seeing the video I must say Marie comes across as a very nice, warm person. I love Mary too so I just hope people in Denmark realise how lucky they are to have them both and not compare them too often.
Joachim and Marie look very much in love, congrats to them and their famillies.
