I would love it if they named the little prince Philip (Phillipe), Its a royal french name, and it sounds really nice in Danish to, and is quite popular in Denmark

Other names that I like:

Lucas (both popular in Denmark and France)
Alexander
Athur
Nicolas (though quite similar to Nikolai, so I dont think its very likely)
Louis (I just love this name, but maybe its a little to french for a danish prince)

So now we know it's a boy

So far, Henri is your favourite bet for the boy's name. Alexander and Lucas are close runner-ups. Many of you also like André, Axel and Sebastian. Oliver is also a popular bet followed by a bunch of other names: Carl, Christopher, Oscar, Noah, Victor, Philippe, Gustav, Alain and Eric.

Naming the baby Henri after grandad sure would be a nice gesture! I personally doubt Alexandre because it is the son of their best friends Oscar and Britt(which is why I also doubt Oscar) and also because of Countess Alexandra.

How are the betquotes in Denmark for the names?

The wikipedia pages for Prince Henri and Princess Marie have family tress going back I believe to their great-great grandparents.

I don't know what the odds are, but I read an article (can't remember where) that said that bookmakers were saying that the little prince's first name is most likely to be Albert. I don't know why and how they came up with this. We will see in a few months if they are correct.

Billed Bladet has an article about the royal godparents for the Danish children, Christian, Isabella, Nicolai and Felix. It inquires about the godparents for the lilleprins:

Billed-Bladet - Kongelige bÞrns mange faddere - se dem her

I don't think they will choose royals just because it's what we expect, I think they'll choose the ones that THEY want. :-D Nikolai and Felix didn't have royal godparents, except from Frederik, which is natural since he is their uncle.

New Guess:
1 or 2 of Marie's brothers.
Britt sisbye
Carina Axelsson
Mary (Perhaps.)
Julie, Marie's best friend.
A male friend.

Again, I can't BELIEVE they have ALBERT as the most likely name. If they choose that, it's only because of lack of knowledge. :-D

Daniel is nice. :-D

I don't see Carina Axelsson: I think that she is closer to Mary. But possible Prince Gustav.

I would actually see them as godparents for a third child of Mary and Fredrick if they have one.

I wonder if there was ever an explanation given why Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra
chose a greek/russian name variant Nikolai instead of more english/scandinavian variant
Nicholas or Nikolaus etc.? Was it an homage to emperor Nikolai II, whose mother was Danish?
The princes do not have really scandinavian names, as Prince Felix's name is of latin origin.
Summa summarum, I think the name for the new baby prince could well be "French-influenced", at least.

I doubt that it has something to do with Nikolai II. I remember that some time ago i saw a list of the most popular danish names for boys and Nikolai was there too, on a quite good place, cca 20th. If it`s true, then the name is used normally in this form in Denmark.
And Albert - a nice name, but to me a little bit oldfashioned. I wonder why the press guesses exactly this name.
