Alex and Joachim met at a private party in January 1994.
Marie and Joachim met at a hunting event in summer 2002.

i agree with the previous comments. from what we have been hearing she and her family is a bit more well-connected than mary's. joachim and her met at an event, so i guess marie must have had the connections to get invited.
her mum's chateau in provence is lovely. i'm sure it would make for the perfect accommodation when visiting avignon with such history!
i had never seen this picture of the wedding before either. i love how everyone looks so happy about the engagement and how marie is very proudly holding her grandma's hand. absolutely adorable. marie's mum seems also very gracious and elegant.

Wasn't Avignon the place where Marie and Joachim were seen together for the first time?

yes, jo of palatine. it was where we say those pictures on a little bridge when the press started speculating on a new girlfriend for joachim. they initially said she was spanish, i remember.

I love this photo, Carlota! I have also never seen it before. Thank you so much for sharing it.
It is absolutely beautiful to see Marie holding her grandmother's hand! It is such a loving gesture, and Marie looks like she is so proud of her grandmother.
Her family is very charming. The more I read about Marie, the more I like her. She seems genuine and sweet.

HI,
Does anybody know where online I can watch the documentary about Marie? I'm thinking of the one that i believe is entitled "portrait..." I've seen a few links to it on this website but those links are no longer live.
by the way, you can watch the whole Mary Donaldson documentary online bit by bit on youtube.
Tak.

I agree with the posts commending the documentary about Marie - she certainly has an interesting family and life. I came away from the documentary with a new appreciation of her. I hope she does well in her new role.

This documentary is very well done. Marie's fun-loving spirit comes through as she ponders over the changes that will come when she weds. What a lovely introduction. Prince Joachim is to be commended for his sensitivity to the changes which she will encounter as she becomes his wife. His tenderness is obvious - one can only wish them many many years of happiness as they begin their family.

I believe I read somewhere that Caroline Fleming was a friend of Marie's from school. Did she also study in Switzerland?

I think that Caroline Fleming is a friend of Mary. She is from an aristocratic Danish family. I don't believe that she went to school in Switzerland. I could be wrong, though.

Yes, I believe she is a friend of Mary's, probably after she knew Frederick and eventually became the Crown Princess.
However, she did invite Marie and Joachim to the same shooting party. That is how they met each other. I was wondering how she knew Marie. I've since read that Caroline F went to schools in England, so am not sure how the friendship with Marie formed. Maybe skiing in Switzerland?
