I think QMII and PH were too trusting of the last owners of Schackenborg otherwise I doubt they (and their lawyers) would have accepted taking over the place on behalf of Joachim. Considering the state the manor was in, due to lack of maintenance and investments.

I also suspect that had it not been for the money donated by the public as a wedding present, Joachim would have had to give up the place much sooner.
Joachim would certainly not have been able to afford renovating the building otherwise.
Alexandra's business sense IMO also helped a lot. However, Alexandra was and is a city-girl. While Schackenborg would have been a nice weekend retreat, I doubt very much it was ever a home for her.

In hindsight it might have been better to let Joachim pursue a career as diplomat or as a civil servant within the Ministry of Trade, where he talents for diplomacy, giving speeches and wear suits would be of better use.
I mean Joachim was destined to take over a manor, a large farm, when he was around ten or so - without anyone knowing whether he had a talent or even a desire for farming. (*)

I hope M&F don't make a similar mistake in regards to their children, in particular Isabella, who is the de facto spare. And who will, for at least a part of her life, have a role similar to that of Joachim.

(*) It is of course also one of the major flaws in the whole concept of monarchy: That the one who is going to take over, may not necessarily be the best suited - or willing.
Need I mention Thailand?

I wonder if the next step for modern monarchies will be to have some sort of vetting process, to determine who among the available candidates is best suited. Or perhaps rather an option of overriding the first born?
Right now it seems like the (young) heirs and future heirs in DK, Belgium, Norway, Spain and the Netherlands are actually well suited and have accepted their destiny, so to speak. And let us be grateful for that!
But what if the cards had been stacked a little differently?
Because today and in the future the heirs can't hide behind the palace walls and unfortunate behavior and character traits can no longer be hushed up.
- All that is of course a topic for another debate.
What Joachim’s situation suggests to me is that the younger children in royal families should be encouraged to find a career that suits their interests and abilities. There are some careers that may not be suitable for children or siblings of the monarch, but there are plenty of good options across a wide range of disciplines that wouldn’t be problematic, and that could be combined with occasional royal duties.

I think his parents were well intentioned in setting Joachim up to take over Schackenborg - as someone mentioned above, it may have been intended as an ongoing source of wealth for Joachim and his descendants, not necessarily a full time career (surely they could have hired a good estate manager?) Joachim and Alexandra were also full time royals for quite a few years, almost filling the role of the heir and his wife. They seemed to enjoy it, but everyone knew it was temporary, and those were years that Joachim could have been building his own career. He seemed to be a bit lost after Frederik and Mary took over that prime role, and it was probably made worse by the divorce (I do think things would have been quite different if Joachim and Alexandra had stayed together).

Another interview with Marie. Now a little more positive in the benefits of her children being in France for almost 3 years.
https://herognu.dk/danmark-er-altid-...re-en-forskel/

"And although there are rumors that the family is moving to Washington in the United States, where the prince will hold a top position, the princess thinks that it is too early to comment on the future. Instead, she emphasizes that they and their children, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, ten, have had almost three good years in her homeland."

Yes, and the children have gone from not speaking French that well to unsurprisingly be very good at it now, and they have gotten to know French culture well. - Which is good, because of course they should learn about their mother's and grandpapa's culture.

But what I find most interesting is that our Marie talks about continuing working for her protections, which to me suggests some sort of future role within the DRF. - To what extent though is an open question. Because keep in mind that Alexandra kept some of her protections for years after having left the DRF.
I imagine J&M will keep their royal titles, even if Joachim will be working for a private company, be that foreign or not. But even if that means they will (have to) stop being working members of the DRF and officially representing the DRF, Marie certainly should be able to do an Alexandra and work for her protections in semi-royal manner or semi-official manner if you prefer.

No, he went to the Agricultural Academy.

But he did study commerce with Mærsk shipping in Hong Kong as an intern.

Not sure I agree.

An agrarian education is pretty extensive!
That includes knowledge about crops and livestock, administration, management, law, accounting, hygiene, diseases, machinery and the multitudes of other things needed to run a modern farm.

Lovely article from Princess Marie. Love that since it is in Spanish, I did not need Google translate.

Princess Marie attended the opening of a new exhibition in Paris last week and answered a few questions from Paris Match:

About whether she’ll still be in Paris in 2024: “I live a little day by day, we don't know yet. It's always been like that.

About whether the rumors of a move to Washington D.C were false: “Nothing has been confirmed, nothing has been announced, so [the rumor] does not come from us. There are always changes, after the end of something there is a new beginning somewhere.”

Q: The last few months have been special, with the removal of the princely titles of your husband's four children, including your children Athena and Henrik. Has the situation calmed down with your in-laws?
A: We are a very united family and we are doing very well. Thank you.

...The thing about DC isn't confirmed? I'm so confused.

Marie's line about a "very united family" is quite slick, but she does not say of whom the very united family consists...

Or given the Queen's health issues the situation has changed. Until we know what's going on, we won't know what's going on.

Maybe things are happening bts that would require them to remain close to or back in Denmark.

It was never confirmed by the Royal house.
Only BT, and our favorite journalist friend, via independent sources
https://www.bt.dk/royale/bt-afsloere...orer-job-i-usa

Joachim did say the Paris job "stops this summer" and also the embassy job for Marie
https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelig...es-job-i-paris

- Everyone asks that - and yes, I know what I want. And the right bodies, authorities and people also know what I want. I'm just waiting for the phone to ring and they say "Go", says Prince Joachim.
https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelig...lefonen-ringer

but yes, Joachim never said D.C.

I doubt it.
I would actually be worried if he was.
