Baby Girl for Prince Joachim and Princess Marie: January 24, 2012

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Pretty little girl. :flowers:

And P Joachim is just over the moon still.

He's tickled pink, one might say! :p

Beautiful little girl, I wonder if she'll get as light as bette Henrik or stay olive-skinned like her mother?

Aw, a little sleeping beauty.

I'm immensely impressed by how well Marie's Danish has become. Joachim was ... we have an expression here in Denmark, 'ved at revne af stolthed', which I can only translate into 'being very, very proud', and that was very clear to see - finally a little girl to dote on! :p

The 'olive-skinned' to me looks more like jaundice but that is very common. I didn't see too much dark hair though. I believe she will have dark hair later. I hope she'll have brown eyes too!

The little princess is very cute! Hopefully we get a better look at her later when there's official photos (not sure if they do take any photos before the christening but I hope so). Too early to say who she resembles, we'll have to wait for her to "straighten out" a bit first (you know how small babies are still wrinkly like in a tight bundle).

Prince Joachim is deeply besotted with his little girl, I can tell! And I cannot believe how all these royal ladies come out of the hospital looking like they never gave birth at all! Yes I know, make up does a lot but that doesn't explain all of it.

BTW, I've never really understood where the term 'olive skin' originates from. I mean, it's not the shade of an olive really. :p

Joachim always looks so happy when he's with his children but today it's even more visible, he finally has his little girl. Baby is beautiful, I think she will be looks more like Marie (darker skin and darker hair) than like Joachim. Good to see happy family who clearly enjoy each other.

Can someone tell me what the royal couple were laughing about?

Wow, Marie looks amazing! Her figure seems to have popped right back to the way it was before she got pregnant. She really seems to be very sweet and warm.

The baby is adorable too.

What a lovely photos! Lille Prinsesse is so cute! Both Joachim and Marie are absolutely radiant! Princess Marie looks really really good!!! I'm looking forward to see the picture with her big brothers!

Marie looks amazing for someone who has just had a baby.
The little princess looks really cute. She also looks a bit darker skin than her brother, I'm sure Joachim is going spoil her big time being the only girl after 3 boys.

I cannot understand how can they look so wonderful juts thre days after giving birth, she is using her own jeans, she doesn0t look like a recent mother at all, I dfoung that strange and I don't know, forgive to say that...but it does look that she hasn't give birth at all...of course this is not hte case!!! Just because she looks so fantastic normal...

They are royals, not normal. I am sure Marie stayed longer in hospital than the average danish woman who gave problem-free birth to a second child, she will have had more staff at her disposal and around the clock care, before Marie left its likely that a make-up artist popped by and did some magic ... for me this whole royal birth giving frenzy (in general) doesnt have much to do with reality.

And besides ... just imagine a royal mother would look pale, drained and tired and her royal husband wouldnt find a parking slot to pick up his wife (what happens to the "normal" folk) ... people would be disenchanted with the supposed fairy tale.

I don't think their smiles could be any wider! Marie looks terrific and Joachim ready to burst with pride; what a happy family. This little princess will indeed be spoiled to death!

I wasn't aware Cologne is so much worse than the rest of Germany when it comes to give birth - here in the South it depends completely on the mother and the health of the child when they are released from hospital. I gave birth in a tiny state-run clinic in the countryside in faily simple surroundings but when my baby needed sunbaths due to his jaundice it was no problem to stay on till he was better. And there are much more specialised and better clinics abound which give a much better service. Due to my son's early arrival, alas, we had to take the next one and I happen to live in a small village, so there wasn't a choice. But I never had the feeling the mothers were not treated well and could not relax enough after the birth.

I think it's adorable how Joachim pushes away the folds to reveal his daughter's face. What a proud daddy!

Thanks to all for the great links and photos.

Marie looks fantastic, I didnt look that good 3 yrs after my baby, let alone 3 days.
The little princess is beautiful, Joachim looks over the moon already, congrats!!

I think you're referring to when the reporters told Marie and Joachim that some children had suggested the name "Tornerose" (the Danish name for the Sleeping Beauty) for the little princess, that really cracked them up.

I was referring to the average problem-free birth what I understand Marie had (meaning a perfectly healthy baby, experiencend mother) - the people I know who fit this description have either gone home the same day or at least the day after giving birth. Of course if there is a problem with the baby such as jaundice, mothers are welcome to stay as long as required.

I am fairly sure royals get special treatment, no matter what. They will for sure have a closed off area for themselves.

Marie & Baby look beautiful! What a lovely family! I'm so happy for them all!!!

What an adorable little girl. Marie and Joachim look so happy.

On german TV they showed a video of them leaving the hospital and Joachim said he told the staff "See you" instead of "good bye".
The german reporter was making jokes about the danish royal family having a lot of grandchildren.

Congrats to Joachim and Marie! Finally, a little girl for their family.

Thanks, Fanvanmaxima :flowers:

That is confirmed by the court.

Thank you SO much for this Muhler, especially for your insightful comments regarding the difference between the two princes! HM Queen Margrethe has said that her eldest son reminds her of her father, who, I think, was famously direct and always dared to be himself (think tattoos, bodybuilding and singing sea shanteys!) Your analysis reminds me of her words, so that you are probably on the right track!:flowers: Prince Joachim's four syllable name possibility is usually spelled Scheherezade in English, referring to the bewitching beauty who kept her Arabic sultan and lover sleeplessly capitvated by a thousand and one nights of stories. I hope these new parents will NOT be kept awake for a thousand and one nights! As a general comment, I was pleased to see many Greenlandic flags in the audience of spectators at the hospital!

I managed to stay awake long enough and got the second stream to work(thank god) so cute and they both looked so happy. And now I'm anxious to see the official photos plus the announcement of the christening date.

I loved to read Prince Joachim´s dear words during the interview. It raised me up. Thank you.

That's probably because the joke on the ward has been that J&M will return. But Morten Hedegaard emphasized on TV, that it was only a joke.

You are welcome Gerry and Tilla. :)
That is hardly surprising, because due to the limited facillities in Greenland, patients who need advanced treatment go to Rigshospitalet.
The newsreader on TV2 mistook the Greenlandic flag for the Japanese and she expressed surprise to see the many foreign flags (and Japanese nationals I guess) in the foyer. - Oh, well....
I guess she had to buy a round of kvajebajer (goof-beers) afterwards.

On another note. Yes, Marie and other members of the DRF get special treatment. Of course they do.
Rigshospitalet is supposed to be the best hospital in DK (in sharp competition with Skejby hospital) and it would be a major huge collossal embarrassment for the hospital if something went wrong, while a member of the DRF gave birth. - Imagine the reactions: "This is supposed to be the best hospital and the best doctors in DK and they screwed up a birth of a royal?!? If they do that, what treatment will the rest of us get"??
So naturally only the very best among the staff are involved.

Then imagine something did go wrong, which is bad enough and it turned out afterwards that the birth was handled by the B or C team.
The one in charge would as a minimum be kicked out in the middle of the Atlantic!

Marie is a goddess, Joachim is great, the baby is super cute but why the heck is she wrapped in a pink sweatshirt? Could no one locate a soft pink blanket? ;)
