Summary of article in Billed Bladet #46, 2013.
Written by our reporter in Mexico, Marianne Singer.

This covers the first day of the visit.

Mexico City is located in an altitude of 2.300 meters and with a population of 22 million it's the second largest city in the world.
M&F touched down Sunday evening and with them went representatives for more than 50 Danish businesses.

Monday around noon on a balmy day, the visit started. First at the anthropological museum, where the manager took them for a guided tour lasting a little more than an hour,

They also visited the Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto and his new wife, Angelica Rivera de Pena, who is apparantly something of a style icon in Mexico. The President's former wife died in 2007 and in all he and his present wife have six children.

They also visited the DTDUCA Foundation, which is a day care centre for people with down's syndrome. Here a donation for 100.000 $ was presented for educating people with down's syndrome in being able to live an independent life.

They also visited the children's museum Papalote, where LEGO has permanently donated bricks in order to encourage the children to build the city of the future.
Here M&F, well, mostly Mary actually, were presented with drawings and a nice letter:
"Dear Princess, we have gotten to know your country through pictures on the internet and we really liked it. The houses look good, the palaces are big and the aquarium is big. (*)...
The legend about the Copenhagener mermaid is very interesting and we know her, because Disney made a movie about her....
We wish you can one day invite us to your country, so that we can meet the king and your kingdom... We will behave well and work hard. Thank you".

At the end of the afternoon M&F were presented with the keys of the city by the mayor of Mexico City, Miquel Angel Mancera, at the townhall.
Frederik gave a short speech and started out in Spanish: "Muy buenas tardes a todos = A really good day to all of you".

In the evening the temperature dropped and the wind picked up. Here M&F went to the concert house El Plaza Condesa, where they were to watch a charity concert with among others the Ravonettes, but that was cancelled. Instead the American band Gliss went on stage.
When the Danish singer Sharin Foo went on stage, M&F had just left for a nearby restaurant, Azulcondesa.
The proceeds for the concert went to the Diarq Foundation.
(*) Don't know which aquarium they are referring to.

The Crown Prince visits the state-owned oil company Pemex in Mexico City and attends a meeting with representatives from Pemex and the present Danish companies.

She is there on business. Men or women is irrelevant.
She is there as a representative of Denmark, not doing any actual business. I also find that whatever the meal, when you are seated around the table, it's more pleasant to mix men and women. It's not a question of anything other than making it more pleasant. - But, I'm happy for you to disagree.

She looked great. You know what is odd though? Why is it that there is no clutch? I notice this more and more. Even other royal ladies seem to nix the clutch and opt for clasping the hands. Why is that? To me it seems and looks slightly awkward.

I don't know which appearance you're referring to but for the banquet she's carrying a little silver clutch.

Not sure whether I should post this here or in the Mexico thread, but since this was a private little trip, I will try to post it here.

After Frederik and Mary's official program in Mexico ended the couple were spotted on a private excursion together to the pyramids before they returned home to Denmark.

BB is wrapping up the visit to Mexico in this weeks issue.

Summary of coverage in Billed Bladet #47, 2013.
Eventyrlig aften - A night of fairy Tale.
Written by our Mexico correspondent Marianne Singer.

The Danish embassy had invited 400 guests to the former monastery Convento de San Hipolito, which stems from the 1600's and was renovated in 1999. Illuminated by countless candlelights the mood was special and here arrived M&F. Mary in a red sleeveless dress and Pradas on her feet.
The food was a mix of Danish and Mexican, created by the chefs Enrique Olivera and Paul Conningham.
The conferencier of the evening, John Paul Ospina, seems to have left our reporter decidedly week in her knees, he sure gets a lot of positive coverage!

Afterwards the Danish ambassador, Susanne Rumohr Hækkerup said: "One of the things that makes us special as a country and creates interest is that we have businesses which are very innovative. And another thing is that we have our royal family. When you combine these two things it gives a very good punch".

The Danish minister who accompanied M&F on their visit, Astrid Krag, wasn't there by accident. Astrid Kragh is Minister for Health and I wondered what on earth she was doing during a commercial offensive. But it turns out that she speaks Spanish and that she has stayed for some time i Latin America, including Mexico, some ten years ago.

As a part of Mary's focus on domestic violence she visited a shelter for women, run by the Diarq Foundation, and here she met and was charmed by the flower boy Calel.
His mother is among the women who came to the shelter and she did indeed give her son a big hug afterwards. - For a woman, who is likely to have her self esteem beaten out of her, litterally, this may have meant a lot.
Indeed the shelter has an interesting psycological approach to rebuilding the women. There were signs with negative remarks, say about how ugly or worthless you are. Words these women will have heard so often, contrasted with positive signs saying You are worth a lot or you are special.
Domestic violence is a very serious problem in Mexico and it takes place in almost half of the households.
The head of the Foundation, Sausana Franklin said to BB afterwards: "She was incredibly compassionate towards the five women she met here at the centre. We are really pleased with her visit".

There is also an interview with M&F, but I'll add that later.

Towards the end of the visit M&F were interviewed by BB's Marianne Singer:

thank you Muhler:flowers:
Its nice to read about the growing relations with the two countries. And nice to read that Mary and Frederik are getting ready for a quieter December a time of "coziness". :) Frederik and Mary have traveled alot lately.

How exciting to read that there is a Mexican Restaurant in Copenhagen. I remember when I was traveling in Rome, how exciting it was for me to see a Mexican restaurant there.

And how cool that Mary had been to San Diego and cross over to Tijuana, as many do. Tijuana has/had a very lively downtown district where its basically one big party down the street. Clubs and great food.

I go to Tijuana quite often since I have family there. Right now it has become more safe and positive again. but a few years ago, since Tijuana is a border town used by the drug cartels to get drugs into the US it was not so safe. You could feel the tension in the atmosphere. Downtown Tijuana was a virtual ghost town. Shops and places (where Im sure Mary visited) where open but they remained locked. Once you got to a local store, for example, you had to knock to be let in. The store manager would unlock it while you went in but locked it as you were inside.

But back to the topic. Im glad Mary and Frederik got to taste some authentic mexican food, but Frederik is right. the "real" mexican food is outside with the street vendors:flowers:. especially the Tijuana tacos

yes thanks muhler! i know mary had been on backpack journey after her mother died but i did not know where. sounds like she has been on a long trip. brave of her doing it alone,
that is why i love come here to learn more about our crownprincess and her background. we know a lot about frederik because he has always been here ;-)
and well deserved with a more relaxing christmas month to mary&frederik where they can enjoy the cozy christmas days with their kids with all the lovely traditions. this is my favorite time of year
