Thank you everyone for the wonderful photos. Mary, once again, has another stunning dress. The red/burgundy dress is beautiful. I love it!

In my view, The Australian is reputable, but others may disagree. Anyway, that article was taken from the Opinion section and is bound to have its fair share of bias, and it’s quite clear that Jacquelynne isn’t too pro-Mary.

I think Mary looks gorgeous and she seems to get more and more confident and chic as the days go by! There is no doubt she is a major asset to the danish royal family combining both beauty and intelligence with impecable style and confidence.
I do however agree with the newsarticle a bit. She seems to be very "aware" of her newfound status. She is in Australia her homeland and she spends her spare time mostly shopping? Does she not want to see her family, I know they are about to see them in Tasmania soon, but if I were in Sydney so close to my family, I would have flown them over from Tasmania on the spot! Especially seeing she must only see them once a year.
There is nothing wrong with being interested in fashion, but it does seem to be a bit to much at the moment. Out of all the crown princesses I would say
Mary has the largest wardrobe and she has been a crownprincess the shortest, ok Leticia one week less, but still.
There is so much more you can add to being a royal which is such a privelige as you can adress causes and really make an impact and difference in peoples lifes, besides wearing the latest prada flip flops whilst shopping the next ball gown.

The Australian is indeed well respected, but that doesn't mean that ALL their writers are well respected. Its just like online posters, you will always have those who disagree and want to think badly of someone. However, the positive articles on F & M overwhelmingly outnumbers the negative. Actually, this is one of the first long negative article I've seen from the Australian press.
But really, some of the things she's saying IMO aren't true. For example: "swanning around in posh frock shops or hiding away in a zillion-dollar harbourside penthouse having her portrait painted. " No-one, especially not the press, are complaining that Mary's wearing posh frocks! Haha! so ludicrous!! They want to take pictures of her in such frocks!
Sigh... methinks this writer is one of those middle aged jealous types (don't have anything against being middle aged, but I do have a thing against jealous types ).

I love the color and cut of the red dress. But is it supposed to be on only on shoulder and slipping off the other? I freely admit I'm not knowledgable about haute courture, and maybe that's the way the dress was designed?
As for the Red Cross ball dress: loved the skirt. But did not like the pink top: somehow the fit was wrong, making her look bulky on top and thick-waisted (and she's really slim!) The top also looks like it has a tight fit around the waist, and was then tucked into her skirt, which looks a little strange. And was the skirt supposed to sag in front, to droop below the waistline? Again, maybe that's the way it was designed? Anyone know? From what she said, that the skirt and top were by different designers, it looks to me like she put 2 things together which don't quite go together.

It's just typical "smarty pants" journalism which we get so much of here. And not just from News Corp papers. Perhaps they teach this style of writing at Journalism School these days. I notice the writer calls herself a "Methodist Marxist"; perhaps this explains her snide and patronising tone towards not just Mary, but the general public for being enthusiastic about the Crown Princess.

OK, it is now 10.50am in Sydney. Program for today..
2pm Mary at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute at Darlinghurst.
(This is in the gay ghetto area, it's Gay Mardi Gras weekend, so there should be an interesting crowd on the footpath, I will try to be there.)
6.30pm Frederik at the Rolex Farr 40 gala dinner (this is the yachting crowd).
7.45pm Mary at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Ball at the Wentworth Hotel.

Oh yes, I forgot about that (Mardi Gras). Should be interesting for Mary. Darn it; I was near Darlinghurst yesterday. Actually, on my way there, I went past the Shangri-La a few times, and I don't know if it's been posted, but there are Danish and Australian (I think an American one too) flags hanging outside. :)

Victoria Street Darlinghurst is home territory for Mary as, in another life, she worked just down the road.
Got there early enough to secure a good possie, surrounded by reporters and cameramen (no women) speaking to each other in English and Danish. Or disconcertingly talking into their lapels, constantly, discussing yesterday's events, best positions for today, and what is happening tonight ("what time do you think she will take to the dance floor?"). The word "gorgeous" bandied about. It's hot and humid. Chatting to two Danish guys here for the Gay Mardi Gras, thrilled that their Crown Princess has been such a big hit here in Sydney.
A line of cute little toddlers, flowers in hand, awaiting the arrival. Dignitaries taking up position, police and security on alert. The motorcade draws up, the car door opens, a flurry of clapping, cheering, shouting, cameras whirring and flashing.
Mary ever so elegant in a whitish blouse (very chic), and beige-ish pants. So thin. Elegant, poised, controlled, she greets the hosts, then moves across to the cute kiddies, bends/kneels down, takes their flowers, chats to them, moves on, ever controlled and poised. Shakes some hands in the crowd, exchanges a few words (the Danish media will just love this), sun shining in her hair.
Her Lady in Waiting, Countess Bernstorff-G, just a step behind, ever so elegant.
Photographers shouting out in English and Danish, click, click, click, "Mary! Mary! Mary!" The media liaison lady in the Danish party moving TV cameramen out of the way so that the press photographers get a clear view. Mary, right in front, facing the photographers behind and around me. Giving them their shots. "Thank you Mary!" they shout. She's gorgeous! Ever so controlled, every movement deliberate, nothing is rushed.
A last flurry of activity around her as she glides through the doors, and she is gone.
The scrutiny and pressure must be intense: every pair of eyes focused on her, motorised cameras whirring, clicking, flashing, cameramen shouting, crowd clapping and cheering. Surreal. Intimidating. And this was just small scale. Just shows, our Mary has the right stuff! Looked at the two Danish guys and just said "she's gorgeous", they replied together, beaming, "gorgeous!"

Thanks loads for the comments on the Jacquelynne Willcox article Danielle, Warren, bolla, Jasl and Trinny. It seemed very sour grapes to me. And, having heard from some of our Australian members it becomes quite clear that this writer is practicing, as Warren so appropriately put it, "smarty pants journalism".

Another "journalist" (Anita Quigley or something) also adopted a similar tone just before F & M's wedding. Quigley wrote really horrible stuff, like how Mary dressed like a stewardess (the piece came out just after QM's birthday, and mary was wearing that black and white outfit with the scarf), how Mary was a fake and how she had adopted a royal wave, and how a normal person would have invited whoever it was that introduced her to her future husband but not Mary.... just stuff like that. She got a lot of attention from that "article" - people wrote to the editor, saying it was just so petty (mostly guys, believe it or not... maybe because they can't be jealous of Mary, seeing as they're guys) etc.
Anyway, for whatever reason, Quigley is now very pro the Danish couple. She might have been at the airport when Mary arrived, because she wrote this glowing short article re Mary's arrival. And then she went to the yacht club with her friends and noticed how F & M and their friends were just so normal. Oh, and she also shook hands with Frederik! She asked if she could have her picture taken with her, he said yes, she said thank you, and Fred goes "no, thank you", and now she's a big fan of Fred. : )
I even think being anti-Mary in the beginning might have been just a ploy to increase Quigley's profile.

It would appear that Australia is the place to be these days with the sun-kissed country playing host to a roll-call of VIPs.
The local media hasn't been able to get enough of Tasmanian-born Princess Mary, who is currently visiting with her dashing husband Prince Frederik. But the paparazzi were having to spread themselves thin on Wednesday when a who's-who of the pop industry jetted into town for the MTV Australia Music Awards. And it wasn't just in Sydney that photographers were being kept busy. Britain's Prince Charles was also making an appearance further inland in Victoria.
Mary spent the afternoon at a fundraising luncheon for Mental Health Foundation. Dressed in a shimmering white silk suit, the 33-year-old didn't disappoint her home country's fashionistas when she arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel.
There were some rather more bohemian style statements being made across town at the MTV bash, however. Irish singer Brian McFadden, who made his entrance with new love Delta Goodrem, was sporting a pink stripey t-shirt for the occasion. Sharon Osbourne and her daughter Kelly were both clad from head to toe in black, while local talent Dannii Minogue looked radiant in a flowing white number.
Far away from the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, the Prince of Wales was enjoying a rather more earthy afternoon. During a visit to Geelong Grammar School, which he attended as a teenager, the future king showed off his well-known horticultural talents by planting a tree.

Danish royals dazzle around the world!
3 MARCH 2005
Denmark's princesses lived up to their reputation for elegance as they stepped out in style at events on opposite sides of the globe.
Princess Mary made a stunning appearance in a full-length off-the-shoulder red gown and a diamond collar with matching drop earrings at a state dinner at the New South Wales Government House.
The event capped off a busy day for the Danish royals, as earlier that day Princess Mary had attended a luncheon hosted by the Mental Health Foundation. Her husband, Prince Frederik, spent the day with his Danish crew battling on the high seas as they had earlier competed in the Rolex Farr-40 World Sailing Championships.
Meanwhile in the cooler climes of Scandinavia, Princess Alexandra continued on with her two-day visit to Finland. The Hong Kong-born royal was looking radiant in a retro-style white hat and matching coat as she named the Finnish goodwill ambassadors who will head-up bicentennial celebrations for the birth of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.
To kick-off the eight-month-long celebration of Hans Christian Andersen's 200th birthday 40,000 guests have been invited to Copenhagen for the April 2 festivities. Denmark's entire royal family will be in attendance as well as monarchs from Sweden and the Netherlands.
