In an upcoming exclusive tv-interview with Crown Princess Mary DR1 gives the viewers a rare glimpse into the Crown Princess working life seen from inside.

"Mary, a Crown Princess with a cause" will be sent at DR1 on Thursday the 29th January at. 8:30pm.

The annual 'Denmark's collection show' focuses this year on injustice and as an introduction to the show DR1 will send an exclusive tv-portrait of Crown Princess Mary. Denmark's Crown Princess has become a key player in international development for women and girls' rights and the program gives the viewers a rare glimpse in the Crown Princess's work life - both when it takes place in her office at Amalienborg, at the rostrum at the UN and to a meeting in a garage in South Africa. In an exclusive and very honest interview Crown Princess Mary tells about the journey towards her role today - for how do you handle political development as a member of the world's oldest royal family?

Can we watch it from the us?

:previous: If you can't watch it live on Thursday (I know DR sometimes put limitations on their live streams), I'm sure it will be made available for everyone on the website shortly after it has aired :flowers:

I think Denmark has a wonderful caring future Queen. She has really taken on duties and is so involved with her causes.
They aren't pretty little visits with polite chats and posies of flowers.
Very proud of our Aussie Mary

Who have seen the interview of Mary on DR1 that are to be aired in a couple of hours.
The interviewer is Ditte Haue.

During her travels Mary meets a lot of women and girls who are in very dire straits and the visibly moves her: "That affects me a lot... you can't...".
Q: It really is hard not to be moved.
M: "Yes, it is.
It affects me a lot, but when you sit there I believe it's very important that you do not become too moved. I feel that you have to be something for the one you face and if I sit there and... of course you can have tears in your eyes... but if I sit there and I can't handle to listen to that story then I'm not there for her in that moment".

Mary's life as Crown Princess and her work has been a journey: "It has been an exciting and shocking journey I have been on and it has opened my eyes for how important a cause is".

Mary is during the TV-portrait also praised by Minister for Development, Mogens Jensen. He was the gentleman who accompanied her on her trip to South Africa.

Being involved in charity and women's rights is difficult while remaining strictly politically neutral: "Of one must look out for where one steps, because it's sensitive subjects but Denmark has a long tradition for being a strong proponent for these subjects (women's rights and sexual rights). As member of High Level Task Force it's my job to address the cause in as many contexts as possible.
I have through my protections had the opportunity to travel and meet these challenges face to face and to meet those people who face these challenges close up and I have had the opportunity to communicate and to be their voice on a different platform and on the international stage. You can say a lot of fancy words, but in the end it's their voices that speak the loudest". - And these are Mary's final words in the interview.

Ulrik Ulriksen also adds his own personal comments as journalist for Billed Bladet and he says among other things about Mary's commitment: "... Later that same year (2012) Crown Princess Mary was on a working visit to Mozambique, which in many ways became a breakthrough for the Crown Princess in the new role (as a champion for basic women's rights). In the poor African country we experienced how Mary in a warm and genuine way was fantastic at establishing contact to all.
Over the past few years Billed Bladet has been present at several major UN summits in New York as well as Malaysia and back home in Copenhagen. The Crown Princess has been strong on the rostrum but for us and everybody else made at least just a big an impression during fieldwork in countries like Morocco, Jordan, Myanmar, Tadsjikistan and latest in South Africa. In Morocco the visit to a home for domestically abused women was an important and harsh experience. In Myanmar and Jordan the Crown Princess visited refugee camps and focused in particular on the conditions of women an children. In Tadsjikistan the Crown Princess very much focused on women's education and opportunities. And just four months ago it was among other things the meetings of victims of rape at a treatment centre in Soweto in South Africa that hit Mary hard and gave her a greater insight into the issue and (gave her) more motivation to continue her work...

Follow up.

The DR1 portrait of Mary is over.
It was a pretty strong portrait conveying Mary's thoughts, commitment and experiences in connection with her engagement for women's rights. Some of it being in English.
Mary was indeed visibly moved a couple of times.

I'm sure someone will post a link at some point.
The portrait lasted 30 minutes and hopefully it will be shown in Australia - that being more natural than in other English speaking countries.

Also, notice the progressively dressed female PET officer accompanying Mary. They were surprisingly close! Also at otherwise guarded UN conventions.

:previous: Indeed! As we have heard from people who work with her she is so well prepared, involved in her causes and know everything down to the smallest detail that it happens that the professionals at an event sometimes hardly can answer her questions :p

BTW DR's tv-interview with Mary begins in a few minutes...
Denmark's collection show this year focus on 'injustice in the world' and therefore the tv-program with Mary serve as a prelude to the large collection show which will be sent on Saturday night.

Thank you so much for the link to the interview. Although I do not understand Danish the message was clear. I was active in the Women's rights movement in the 70's in the US and am so happy to see strong, young, dedicated women and men continuing and expanding this work. Denmark must be very proud of Mary.

We are! A very strong portrait, indeed.

Genuine, clever, heartwarming, committed, empathetic, skilled, hard-working are some of the words people writes on Facebook after the program.

But my favorite comment must be this one from a man named Christopher :p :
As the Queen once said to Frederik: You shall choose your love with your heart my son, but of course it isn't a bad thing to also use the head... And you must say he truly has completed it. A very good program!

I agree with Roskilde.
We were very lucky with Mary.

And congratulations on your first post. :flowers:

Thanks Muhler,
Is it a opportunity the media and journalists get that they can view a program before it will be televised?

Yes, sometimes. And certainly with a public service channel like DR1.

Jan. 31 The Crown Prince Couple attends Denmark Collection 2015 live show at Terminal 2 in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, at. 20:40
Its now on their calendar.

I believe they have gone in the past as well

:previous: At 20.40? Interesting, because the live coverage of the show begins at 19.00 and lasts until midnight.
Perhaps they will arrive (and get coverage) when they show is well underway?
Wonder if Mary will give a speech?

Anyway, the show is aired live on DR1 so there is a very good chance those outside DK can watch it as well.

They also arrived around that time the other years they have participated in the national collection. At least what I remember.

There's still not much information at the DRF's website. Maybe they will visit the call centers as they have done in the recent years.

Our Prime Minister will attend as well.

F&M has arrived... and maybe they're royal, but they arrived without any fuss and entered their seats in silence. Exactly as it should be at such an event. On the spectator stands you can see F&M have been seated right in the middle of a large crowd of school pupils and at the TV screen they looks to enjoy themselves with their young side comrades :p

Australia is very proud too :) I know that she was representing Denmark and its a Danish issue but its was amazing to watch her speak and and do her duties and see the Aussie part of Mary come forward.
I was surprised as we dont often get to hear her speak English but her Australian accent and personality traits are very present.

She is such a good role model to her children, her husband and girls/women the world over.

What she said about listening to the story being there for the storyteller in that moment even if she felt like crying was so good so no bs just tell it as it is.

Denmark is so lucky that it scored 2 really good female role models in Mary and Marie to step into the big shoes that QM will leave behind.

:previous:

I'm glad the program could been watched outside Denmark too. And then I'm truly impressed with how much you not Danish members understand even it is a Danish programme and Mary spoke Danish (a very good Danish btw) The phrases and moments from the programme you mention are understood correctly. Well done.

The programme with Mary was sent as a prelude to the National Fundraising show yesterday night which F&M also visited and there was collected over 100 million Danish kroner.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #6, 2015.
Written by Dorte Quist.

As you M&F attended the fundraiser and sat next to a seventeen year old girl. That girl, Mie Hansen, has given a vivid account of what happened. Mie attends the continuation (boarding) school Grønsund and it wasn't a surprise for her that M&F would sit next to her because three days prior to the show her teacher at the school told her that PET had called and asked who would sit where Mie Hansen would sit and who she was. Being okayed she was asked to keep quiet about it.
Mie Hansen explains: "I was told by my teacher because PET called the school and checked who would be seated next to Mary. I understood that I was apparently okayed. And then I was told that I was not to tell anyone. Not even my parents knew it. That was the hardest thing ever to keep secret. So when Mary sat next to me I told her: My, you (informal you) look great. Then she said you too and put her hand in my lap. Then I was totally wauuuuuuuww. And then I just sat there in that ugly, ugly T-shirt (from the continuation school). I told her that I'd liked to have worn a neat dress, now that I was to meet her, but that I had to wear the school's T-shirt. Then she just smiled and said that I looked good".

During the show the apparently talkative Mie kept Mary entertained: "First I explained her about the gong. She wasn't there when the hosts explained that it was struck when there was a donation of more than 20.000 DKK. Then she asked what classed I take at the continuation school. And then I told her all the things we have done at our continuation school to raise money for the fund raiser event".
(I'll skip the details).
"When the Cavalry (comedians) came on stage Mary asked me whether I like them. And fortunately I said yes, because two minutes later Frederik asked me the same question.
I also talked with Mary about me wishing to have a picture taken with them. And to that she said: Yes, of course. And Frederik also said yes, when I asked him. But all of a sudden they had to leave and - well, that was probably the wildest thing of the whole evening! - when they were going, Mary stops the whole thing and signals me to come to them and when I get over there, she says: I promised you a photo. Then we go down the stairs together and then she grabs Frederik and that's when I'm photographed with them along with my classmate Andreas, who is also standing there. That was so cool"!

- Mie has uploaded the photo taken on her mobile and it's used in the article

They look like they are really enjoying it

Who is the tall blonde woman sitting behind Mary and Frederik? I've seen her at other events. Is she some sort of cultural minister?

I must had been a once-in-a-live time experience to call in a "Hi, it's Crown Prince Frederik" answered you

A nice article from BB tell how well liked Frederik and Mary are. Even people who are against the royal family likes them:
Kronprinsesse Mary charmerede Cecilie Beck | BILLED-BLADET

During the national fundraising Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik went around in the call center and Frederik won hearts when he, fresh as he is, helped taking the ringing phones and talked with the ordinar Danish who called in. And Mary definitely gave a good impression as well.

One of Denmark's very well known tv-news reporter, Cecilie Beck, who are against the monarchy, told afterwards about meeting Mary:

- "I must say that I was captivated by the Crown Princess! She really has a winning personality, and if I become converted to the monarchy, then it's because of her! She is unique."

- "The Crown Princess asked whether there were many children who called in and she was spot on there, because there is. Many children have worked and done something extra to make money so they could donate. And we talked a lot about that because the Crown Princess also do a lot of charity work, and we talked about how meaningful it is and how happy it makes you to help others."
