It's great to see how fast Christian has grown up!! It seems like yesterday Mary and Frederik brought him home and now he started school. Where has time gone? :) I hope that he has a great experience at school!!

I second that thanks to you Muhler!
Very informative.
I read that Christian replied to reporters' questions ..
"you don't need to know that" & "its a secret"; if true, then that is
excellent ... the kid has spunk & is aware of his own needs for privacy, not to mention that it sounds a little "cheeky" from a little kid - and thats cute too!!

Christian seems like a streetwise kid - just as well, because he'll have to become King Christian one day.
I look forward to this family of six, and their exploits, for many years to come :-)

Eek, haven't posted in ages! I can't quite believe that little Christian is off to school. It really doesn't seem that long ago that we were are eagerly awaiting his birth, ha ha!
Given the circumstances he comes across as quite a normal kid and hopefully their choice of school will nurture this.
On a side point, the other mothers of kids at the school must be quite excited at the prospect of their children maybe being invited to a birthday party at the palace some day - I know I would!!

First of all, I do hope you are now well, Muhler. I do so enjoy your summaries. Google Translate is fine, but it does not give the insights into Danish life that you give.

The school summer vacation in Denmark is 6 weeks. Then comes one week in the autumn, about one week around christmas and one week winter vacation in February.
Not hot here sadly, not even warm. We have the wettest summer seen in many years

This is what Christian said to the press on his first day to school:
00:15 - Q: Are you excited, Christian?
- "What"? Then nodding.
Q: Can you spell your name, Christian?
Nodding.
Q: What are you mostly looking forward to?
C: "Going to school".
00:25 - Q: something about the school.
- "I was there yesterday". Unsurprisingly Christian speaks with a very distinct Copenhagen accent, more so than his parents.
Q: Do you know any of your future classmates?
- "Yes".
Q: Who is it?
- "I won't say".
01:07 - Q: Do you play a lot of football/soccer at school?
- "What"?
Q: Will you be playing soccer during the intermissions?
- "Yeah".
01:15 - Q: Do you remember the first day at school?
Mary: "Yes, I do".
Q: How was it?
M: "A big experience. A bit frightening. Something I had looked very much forward to".
Q: What do you bring on your first day?
F: "A Pencil case".
C: "Yes, and.... (can't make it out)".
01:36: Q: Do you bring a lunchbag?
C: "Yes".
Q: "What's on it"?
C: "Secret", holding up his finger.
Thanks Jwandcats & Eliz.
It's actually not me who is ill, it's my father-in-law.
The reason I'm sometimes in doubt as to how big an interest there is in my summaries, is because I can't read minds. I have to guess what you find interesting or not, and I have to guess as to what works and what could be done differently.

I think Mary is wanting her children to grow up in a normal life. Just the same as Diana had wanted for William and Harry. I think she ought to be commended for this. On a whole, I do love this royal family. They are extremely down to earth, modest, sensible and certainly display the good family values that one would expect to see. They are also well loved and respected by the Danish people.

Well, F&M seem to have done a good work with C so far, he sounds nice and confident. As for the two of them, I like it that they seem to pay attenion to the oldest two while looking after the twins. It soulf be exausting, but they seem to be doing just fine!

well maybe is just me but I think what Christian say or didn't said...was not political correct...to say "I won't say..." and It's a secret...why? is it so bad to say what is on his lunch bag??

They were certainly direct answers.
As to not saying who his friends are could be down to shyness or he is already now being trained to not saying anything about his friends to the press, lest they are hounded by the media.
As for "it's a secret". Well, this is pure speculation: Either he has got wits or he has been told that this is a way to avoid answering a question.

Actually it was CPss Mary who started this by saying: "It´s personal" and Prince Christian added: "It´s a secret"

Muhler, I hope your father in law is doing ok! It's always stressful when a family member is ill.
I continue to enjoy your translations! I especially like any sort of translation of the family speaking directly, such as this latest little interview with Christian, as a lot is written about the family but it's always nice to hear things straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. :)
It's interesting to me that the children in each class stay together for ten years, and that the teachers are putting so much effort into choosing the classes because of this. IMO I think it's reasonable to try to put a group together that will mix well for one year, but a group that mixes well at five may be completely different at eight or twelve or fifteen years old. Looking out further than a year they might as well pick them at random.

and when I saw the video again I had the same opinion from the Grasten photos, Mary is very "interested" in her hair, and how to move her head and again her hair...
