This'll delight Iceflower... ?

Today is Mary's birthday and on that occasion Daily Mail has an article about her style.
Princess Mary's best looks in honour of her 46th birthday | Daily Mail Online

Billed Bladet has articles and video too.
A selection of Mary's style:

A video portrait praising her:
https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongeli...ele-danmarks-kronprinsesse-mary-fylder-46-aar

And a congratulation:

Frederik is in South Korea so these days Mary is what we in DK call a "grass-widow". Have no idea why it's grass-widow/widower. Perhaps because it's an opportunity to seek new pastures...

It's indeed an old portrait they've chosen for today's birthday.

Thanks a lot for thinking of me and my easy read in the morning :D

We have a similar expression, it's the straw widow in Germany, meaning the same. There are several derivations, one is from 16th/17th century when large groups of men travelled through the country in summer and helped with the grain crop and further field works, their wives stayed at home and were called "straw widows"..

Interesting. ?

At the same time DK was a cattle country. Each year large herds were driven south to Germany.
Perhaps "grass-widow" has something to do with the cattle being driven to new pastures?

Are there similar expressions in other countries?
(that's the great thing about forums like the TRF, when people come from so many countries and cultures, you always end up learning something - or learning about similarities.)
I know this is off topic and all that, but enjoy this video, it's inspired by songs and music from late medieval times in Germany - and the woman here could very well be a stroh/straw widow:

She looks great. Hard to believe 4 more years to 50!

Mary is physically ageing very well and seems to emotionally be in a good place as well. I won’t say she’s come into her own - that happened a long time ago - but she seems very comfortable with her stage in life, with her role as Crown Princess and with her family. Hopefully the second half of her 40s will be as kind to her as the first half was!

.

Bad research - what a surprise ;) - the Dailymail claims it was a new portrait that was shared for her birthday, calling it "a new royal portrait to celebrate her 46th birthday". "Crown Princess Mary has posed for a new official royal portrait", see here (in case the article doesn't get updated now ;))

The only kind of “widow” I know of is a “golf widow”

I don't really know where to post this, so here we go: https://www.bt.dk/royale/dansk-succ...af-kronprinsesse-marys-favorittoej-nu-stopper

It's about the designer Julie Fagerholt from Designer's Nest. She is stopping as designer.
Mary have worn several of her designs, so there are a few pics of Mary in the article.

This should please Polyesco, among others, who will now have an excuse to study Frederik's face in details.

At the events yesterday a darkish mark on his right cheek was noticed. Lene Balleby at the court doesn't know what it is, so what can it be?

- Well, to me it looks like a bruise. Perhaps he fell? Perhaps one of the children or a playful dog whacked him. Or perhaps Mary?

- I know, because if I were to list all the times Mrs. Muhler has kicked or hit me or tried to suffocate me in her sleep over the years this would be a very long post!

Judging by his disheveled hair, I think you might be on to something Muhler! I bet Mary has a mean right hook. Or crazy karate kick.

This is sad. I loved her work as a designer.

Funny. :flowers: But didn't we all go there at once. Ha! Now that would be an announcement to explain it!

Well it looks like the mystery was solved : being on the phone while going up the stairs.

In a good mood Frederik explains
https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelige/danmark/video-derfor-har-frederik-et-blaat-maerke-ved-oejet

"You do not have to look at your mobile phone while walking on a staircase, Because then you get a bruise like this.
This is how Crown Prince Frederik started his speech during a visit to Food Nation in Copenhagen, where he told how he had blown his cheek on his right eye."

Ah, a Zombie-bruise? And not a mean left hook from Mary.
Mary is right-handed, so if she beats him up he would more likely have bruises on his left cheek. ?;)

Close ups of Frederik is always appreciated ;);) and in uniform
Given how sporty/active he is, Im surprise he doesn't have more lol. Plus add 4 active kids and dog...
It happens..

He almost broke his neck a while ago jumping on a trampoline. A bruise on the face is nothing in comparison.

Seriously though, Frederik is almost 50 now and a future king. He should not be engaging in risky physical activities anymore. That is a bit of his "Peter Pan" (i.e. "not wanting to grow up") personality.

"peter pan" personality ? LOL. I think you are looking too much into this.

He already said he was looking at his phone while going up the stairs. Something I fear most do ( i know im guilty of walking and looking at my phone)
The trampoline incident was at his son's birthday party but I guess since he is a future king he can stop playing with his kids

50 or not, we should all remain active:flowers:

Thanks, Eya.

Do any locals know where the photo was taken?

It's Churchill Park Muhler, not far from Amalienborg, between Kastellet and Esplanaden Street.

This is not recent news, but please someone enlighten me. I tought that no royals were allowed to take selfies with fans but apparently this is only true for the british?! The Crown Princess took one in 2016 at least

https://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/2016062132010/princess-isabella-denmark-musician-photo/

It's not a rule I'm aware of, and M&F certainly have selfies with people they meet, mainly children though, all the time.

In this particular case, Isabella went to a concert to hear the gentleman with whom she posed.

Thanks, Sun Lion. :flowers:
That's one the routes Mary takes, when she goes for a run. Or walk the dog as well, I presume.

just now my friend in Copenhagen sent me this pict because he’s into bike things so much and want to show me how great this bike and i was very surprised , because i strongly belief this is frederik, ..[emoji38]

Well, if your friend send you this pic today or yesterday I'm afraid it's Frederik's doppelganger.
Frederik is currently in Greenland. :igloo:
