a nice balance of sharing some photos from their private cruise around Denmark. Some great adventures and family time on the royal yacht Dannebrog.

Some photos have been shared by the DRF of the family at Faaborg Museum.

article
Herlig overraskelse: Kongelig familie på museumsbesøg i Faaborg | Faaborg-Midtfyn | Fyens.dk
"The royal family was introduced to Faaborg by Mayor Christian Thygesen , who showed them way to Faaborg Musuem, where museum chief Gertrud Hvidberg Hansen gave a tour. - I got a call at first. 9 Tuesday morning if they had to come, so I almost managed to just be happy before they were here. The Crown Prince is the protector of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan, for which we have an exhibition about. He has never before seen the museum, and he was very much aware of the architecture and the way the art and business historically had an impact on Faaborg and the museum. He knows many of the painters we have shown and seemed very interested, says Gertrud Hvidberg Hansen."

It was great to see the photos of the CP family enjoying their time in Denmark. It's good to see that they have spent time both abroad and in their homeland this summer. This photo really captures the twins' personalities - I particularly like Josephine's cheeky little smile!

Yes, Josephine likes the camera. A little ham. She ain't Bella's kid-sister for nothing.

Thanks, Polyesco.

That visit couldn't be more appropriate. The stones seen in the photos were raised by the direct ancestors of Frederik and now also his children, the king Gorm the Old and his son Harald Bluetooth.

There are two stones. The first stone raised around 935-950, was raised by King Gorm the Old in memory of his wife, Queen Thyra.
The stone is considered the certificate of baptism since it's the first time Danmark is mentioned officially anywhere in Denmark. - Danmark = the land of the Danes.

The second stone was raised around 969-985 by their son King Harald Bluethooth, who on his stone mentioned that he christened the Danes.

These two kings are officially the two first kings of the whole of Denmark.
There were probably kings of Denmark before that, certainly at least one reigning queen, but they are not officially acknowledged.

thank you Muhler for the interesting history lesson.

A few more pics from their visit
https://www.facebook.com/KongernesJe...84662138231751

"The journey with Dannebrog continued today to Vejle.

From Here, it went to Kongernes's jelling, where the Kronprinsfamilien dove into the history. Around 965, Harald Bluetooth travelled the great runestone in jelling in memory of his parents, Gorm the old and Thyra Danebod. The Inscription on the jellingstenen tells us, among other things, about Harald blåtands's conquests."

Thank you to both polyesco and Muhler for updating us. It seems as if it's been a nice little cruise for the family so far; the photos from today are great and it's also good to see them learning a bit about royal history - or in their case, family history
Josephine's smile for the camera here is adorable - a proper little royal already!

It's also good to see the family spending time in different parts of Denmark, as I think it's important for the children, especially Christian, to have first hand knowledge of as much of Denmark as possible. Good move on Mary and Frederik's part, IMO, as well as being a genuinely nice family vacation.

As I posted yesterday, this can't be all nice family vacation if Frederik's secretary and their chief of court (and possibly others) are on the cruise with them. I think this cruise is partly work partly holiday, perhaps because the kids are on their last week of summer holiday before school starts.

I'm sure it is partly work. With Frederik and Mary's increased prominence over the past few years I'd be surprised if they're ever truly "off" for any extended period of time. But it can still be a nice family vacation in the sense that they're all getting out and doing things together, and the kids are learning about their country and having fun at the same time.

I love that they combined the tradition (Grasten), the overseas luxury (Greece) and the home country small towns in their vacation. Seems like fun with enough exposure to keep us watchers happy.

I only hope we had gotten more and better photos of them in Grasten. It had to rain that day And I like the old photoshoots within the beautiful gardens.

I so agree with you on this vacation of theirs, what a fabulous learning experience for the children. Such a variety of different things to do and in different places all the time. The best part IMO is the children on the small towns around Denmark trip for they will learn and see the people and how they live and all the ways of life, this will make them more aware to their country then just in reading books and talking to teachers but to actually be there is the real way to learn.

I really love the way Frederik and Mary are raising the children, they are brought up with love and encouragement to be themselves while at the time to learn and hold onto the traditions of the royal family. What a really wonderful family they seem to be.......Denmark is extremely lucky to have Frederik and Mary as the next couple to take over someday.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #32, 2017.
Written by Ulrik Ulriksen.

The CP family boarded Danneborg on Monday and sailed south towards Møns Klint (white chalk cliff). Here they visited the Geo Center, Frederik visited earlier this year. They got a tour of the center, including having a look at one of the dinosaurs that lived in what became Denmark. They were shown fossils and at the base of the cliff the family went fossil-hunting.
The manager of the center, Nils Natrop, explains: "We were only told about the CP-couple and the children's visit three days before the arrived. It was a big experience to be visited by them. It was a good day and the mood was very relaxed.
The children were happy and darted around. They were very curious and looked for fossils. They found among other things urchin-fossils. The fossil-hunt was, even if the children had hoped to find a dinosaur tooth (a tooth is one of the prime exhibits at the center). That wasn't to be this time.
They behaved completely in the same way as other families who come here. They had a cozy time and were among other places a trip down to the beach and then they also walked the 497 steps to the top of the cliff. The kids darted ahead.
Later down on the beach they had to remove their shoes and walk through seaweed and chalk.
Inside the center the children enjoyed our virtual reality which conveyed to them the sense of being a peregrine falcon and I think they broke the schedule a bit, because they had so much and didn't want to go home".

Today Crown Princess Mary together with Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine visited The Old Town of Aarhus.
Later, the Crown Prince family came on board one of the world's tallest wooden ships when the trip went to Frigate Jutland in Ebeltoft. Since the frigate was launched in 1860, it has served as both a war and barracks ship and is today a museum.

Thank you, Eya.

The children are really getting the historical tour this summer!

The Old Town in Aarhus, which can only be recommended, consists of houses that have been moved from all over DK, and is now a little affluent merchant town anno 1800-something.
The steam-screw frigate Jylland is also well worth a visit! She actually doubled as a royal flagship, and she saw action and distinguished herself during the Schleswigan Wars.
Hyper modern at the time, she a unique hybrid between a regular sail-ship of the line and an engine driven cruiser.

PH is BTW a very active patron of the frigate Jylland.

I love these open air types of museums that are typically staffed with docents demonstrating the types of occupations and crafts that would have been performed by everyday folk living in that era.

this has been a great little family unofficial summer cruise. And how nice for them to share some pics. They are learning and having fun!

While Frederik was at an official event they took a tour of Den Gamle By- "National open-air museum of urban history and culture in Denmark through three decades. The museum consists of more than 75 historic houses relocated from all over Denmark. Besides the historic houses and the appartments in the 1974 section, there are more than 34 workshops and shops as well as a pharmacy, a school, a post office, a telephone exchange, a jazzbar and much more"

later with Frederik, visit to Fregatten Jyllands
"
The family had an insight into life on board, heard about the battle of heligoland in 1864 and visited the royal salons. Here, the young princes and princesses were able to compare the circumstances of the time for their great-Great-Great-Grandfather Christian D. IX, with today's relationship on the dannebrog.
In conclusion, they felt the rush of 1864 when the crown prince fired one of fregattens's old guns."
