I look at it this way. I've read the article and they state themselves that they are very modern people. I look at things likes this vogue photshoot as a way for them to be more modern. Look at the life they live... lots of tradition and oldfashioned ways... why not do a modern and artsie photo like the Vogue one? Atleast they are not being held behind old fashioned ways all the time, you know? Give them a break people

Thank you EchoLynn...you are in a fortunate position, as unlike many of us, you have been able to read the interview and not just look at the photos.

I didn't say that I personally felt accused. It was more a general observation. And I do not belong to the group of people who feel quickly accused of anything, but my opinion on this subject of the photos is negative and I have read in this forum from the one or other poster that people who do not like these photos must be rejecting Mary because she as a commoner managed to get Frederik or whatever other explaination they bring. So my name wasn't mentioned, this is correct, but my opinion was. That is the reason why I replied to the post. So "mir passt der Schuh nicht.."

I'm sorry, but I think there's a difference between doing your official duties and wearing a tiara or being photographed dressed to the nine in a Vogue photo shoot. And I'm not saying that a shooting for Vogue is a bad thing, it's just something completely different. At least to me. A bit of modesty in times of economic crises wouldn't hurt either. And it has nothing to do with the people's alleged jealousy. As you can see, such affairs cause criticism and I don't think Europe's monarchies can afford more and more criticism.

The fact of the matter is...all the hoopla and discussion of this photo shoot has only taken place on royal message boards! This photo shoot will become a thing of the past, just like Mary's photo shoot with Australian Vogue 6 years ago. The Danish monarchy continued after that photo shoot...just as it will now. Soon the twins will be born, and there will be something else to have a hoopla about!
In the final analysis...Life will go on!

I believe things are out of control here... When I think Mary looks lovely, I say Mary looks lovely and everyone's happy. When I have a negative opinion, I get attacked. Why? Why do YOU feel personally offended?? It's insane, CAN'T you see that?! Why can't you just let other people express different opinions than yours, without jumping on them?? An example: my favourite royals are Countess Sophie of Wessex and Q Noor and not only I LOVE reading people's different AND negative thoughts, I also speak my mind, when I see something I don't like (clothes etc.). Because nobody is perfect or flawless. Can we please realize that as adults? Because if we can't agree to disagree, then I guess it's up to one's mentality. Who told you that YOU are obliged to defend Mary, EACH and EVERY time something remotely negative is mentioned?! Are you sent by God?? Don't you see you end up sounding absurd and ridiculous?? Have you ever thought that YOUR posts are over the top and not the other way round? Last but not least, you've come to my words, UserDane: you don't HAVE to love me and trust me, I can live with that.

I have realized that, too. I actually like Mary, but if she wears or does something I don't appreciate, I state my opinion and I don't think that's a bad thing. This is a discussion board after all. Plus, there are royals that are far more 'bashed' (I wouldn't call it like that in fact). I think if I would it take it as my 'job' to defend the woman in my avi or Charlene Wittstock, I would be pretty busy. Though it is okay to disagree and correct fellow posters if you have more information - that's why I love this board, so many knowledgeable people around -, sometimes I think the comments even here on Mary's fashion thread are over the top. I can speak only for myself and it feds me up at times. Sorry to the moderators and admins for going totally off topic!

I think the photo shoot was very beautiful artistic and with a stroke of humour in it.

I have seen the new home and it is in very good taste.

The painters have been very much aware of the fact that most of the rooms are used for officiel purposes and must be representative to the guest.

Maybe all the Mary problems would be solved if the words spoken about her could be a little kinder. Not always so brash, hateful and hurtful to us that do like her. Things can be said nicely as Muhler pointed out. Maybe then we could all agree to disagree without all the problems. If you dislike her fine. Just state it nicely. Please do not let your dislike of Mary make you make such unkind remarks about her children.

There is no reason to accuse her of causing all the world's financial problems since she is now royal. Some want a Monarchy some do not. This debate has been going on forever for each royal household. As far as the economy or taxes paid this should apply to all members of each royal family not just Mary. Maybe all these discussion should be taken up with the heads of your government not blamed on Mary or brought here for debate. If you feel the need to debate it then maybe you should start a thread in the member's only area and debate it. The last I heard she does not make the rules or pass the laws.

The she is a commoner haters. Each new Crown Princess that is a commoner should be treated the same way as Mary. How can you use this excuse for just Mary lame as it may be. Their government and the royal family approved the marriages so I guess none of us had a lot of say to begin with. I think marrying someone for love and not keeping the royal blood lines going is more important. The old royal blood has become very stagnate and stale in many houses. As much as some hate to realize it, it will soon be 2011. We no longer live in the 1950's. Changes have been made and will continue to be made. As Terri Terri said life goes on. We either go with it or become stagnate and stale.

Why do you spend so much time exaggerating about other peoples comments, and being the custodian of their syntax?

I think Princess Isabella is the best thing since sliced bread!

I too love Isabella, I feel that both she and Christian are credits to their parents. I also think it's great that F&M let her be her own little person and don't try and make her behave like a mini queen (best behaviour at all times). They realise that the most important thing for her and her other siblings right now is for them to be kids, royal training can come later.

I think Isabella is very cute! Christian looked nice in his suit.

I don't personally care for these photos (with the exception of the one of the kids painting). I have nothing against Frederik and Mary, but these photos just aren't my taste. I do see the wit behind them and think it's clever, but I don't care for the photos. That's okay. Everyone has different tastes. That gold dress that Mary is wearing is very pretty however, and she does look pretty in red.

I think it's great that Vogue featured the artists who designed the murals and ceilings for their new home. I wouldn't mind seeing those photos and reading more about the artists.

Please calm down, it was merely a metaphor from my side. You are as indignant over the comparison as if Marie-Antoinette had been Hitler or Stalin. Next time I will compare Mary to Yoko Ono. Do what you want with it. I'm sure you will find a reason to be furious with me.

I could call myself a Mary Fan, but even I can except the fact that she doesn't look right in particular outfits. You can't be perfect enough to look gorgeus in every outfit can you?

Everyone is allowed their own opinion and nobody should be attacked for what they write.

Well said, indeed, Lumut. I agree with you 100%. I am a Mary fan, but even She cannot look great in everything she wears. She is only human, after all.

Yes, I agree as well. It's that old saying: Nobody's perfect. If some would just realize how true that saying is, life would be easier

The problem is, there were a lot of people back in Marie-Antoinette's time who viewed her the same way we today view a Hitler or a Stalin. Granted she was not responsible for the murders of millions of innocent people, but the hatred for her was just as intense.

Saying that because Mary took part in a photo shoot like this, she is akin to a Marie-Antoinette may not mean we think you're saying she's as bad as Hitler or Stalin, but what it is saying is that you think she's a despicable, hateful, horrible person. Because while Marie-Antoinette may have been a good mother to her children, she was unfaithful to her husband, spent gobs of money that the country didn't have, and flaunted her wealth when the majority of her people were starving to death in the street. She did not say, contrary to popular opinion, "Let them eat cake" when told the people were begging for bread, but she was not nor was she ever, a nice person.

Mary is by all accounts the complete opposite of Marie-Antoinette and saying she's exactly like that is not only factually incorrect, it's just plain rude.
