Couldn't agree more with Mary.
Pregnant girls in particular, whether they have been raped or not, do need an education. - As they often have a poor background as it is, the odds are very much against them of climbing the social ladder. On the contrary, they and their child is likely to slide further down.

As a member of the High-Level Task Force on ICPD the Crown Princess participates in the panel discussion "Linking HIV, Gender Equality, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, som Every Women and Every Child Initiative & the Post-2015 Social Justice Agenda".
The meeting will begin with speeches by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Executive Director Michel Sidibé.

Article: Uniting against violence and HIV

A shame if this is all we get. I know these two-days trip to New York with meetings/panel discussions maybe aren't as "exciting" as many of Mary's other events, but still.

**

Anyway, I assume Mary will attend the Regent Couple's dinner tonight, but compared to the plane ride and the time difference of NY and DK Mary will just barely could reach home in time, I guess she will land in Denmark in these hours. It must been some pretty tough days. I hope she will be placed next to a lively person tonight, in case of she feels a little tired after his NY trip

She has the same photo on her twitter account and calls CP Mary "a passionate champion of gender equality".

Video of Mary participating in the panel discussion "Linking HIV, Gender Equality, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights!".

And article telling us that Mary had packed her suitcases before her final meeting. Just as the panel discussion was over Mary had to hurry to the airport so she could reach home in time. Only 2 hours after the meeting began Mary left New York in the airplane heading for Denmark.

indeed, thanks for sharing. Listening to the crown princess, it is clear that she feels passionately about educating women regarding matters of sexual health and gender equality. The moderator is good to accommodate the crown princess' need to leave and it is quite entertaining to wonder if the crown princess will change into her parliamentary dinner outfit on the plane and has the hair dresser with tiara been ordered in CPH! Well done, but all in a day's crown princessly work!

Summary of a number of articles in Billed Bladet #11, 2014.
Written by our New York correspondent, Ulrik Ulriksen.

It was busy days for Mary while in New York.
And here is a list of the main events she attended and the people she met.

A Danish-American dinner-party at the home of the Danish consul, Jarl Frijs-Madsen. Here she met and had a good chat with Chelsea Clinton, who is co-founder and works for the Chelsea Clinton Foundation. The aim is the improve a healthy lifestyle for young Americans, also on a global scale.
The two women have met before in Malaysia.

Mary attended the UN 58th Women's Assembly, which aims to improve the living conditions of women and girls globally.
She attended the opening, met the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, had a long chat with the head of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who is something of a heroine in her native South Africa.
Mary also gave the opening speech at the discussion Investing in Girls and Women: Everybody Wins.
I.e. better living conditions for women results in a marked improvement for the society as a whole. Mary's speech emphasized the importance of improving the positions of women in the Third World.

Later on Mary attended a working lunch along with the Danish delegation, which included the (in DK somewhat controversial) Minister for Equality and Integration, Manu Sareen, who tagged along.
Mary then attended the meeting Everyday Sexism and Hate Speech - What are the Consequences for Women's Empowerment and Equal Opportunities. And she took eagerly part in the debate.

Mary said afterwards: "It has been an incredibly fascinating and exciting day. I think it looks promising based from the results by the commission in regards to women's rights and focus on sexual an repreductive health and rights, but there is still a long way to go. I do however look forward to the continuing work".

In the evening Mary attended a gettogether at the private home of the Danish ambassador to UN, Ib Petersen. Located in a house on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park. And as Mary, who appropriately arrived last, posed for the press, she looked at the skyline over Central Park and remarked: "That sure is a beautiful sight and a beautiful background".

- It is of course debateble how much Mary really accomplishes by attending such meetings. My basic stand is and will always be that it's better to do something than doing nothing. I firmly believe Mary feels she is genuinely making a difference, i.e. she is not showing off.
I also feel that the international work she is doing uttilize her talents and abillities better and matures her for her future role a queen. She is to a large extent in a waiting position while at the same time she is at an age where her energy and skills peaks.
I think Mary, the Australian executive, would have backed down at the prospect of attending these meetings at this level. But Mary, the Crown Princess, is growing with her challenges. She is discovering her full potential.
In that way she is an inspiration, because very few people use their full potential during their entire lifetime.
If Mary, who fifteen years ago, worked in marketing and who is no superhuman, can now address and be heard at UN assemblies, what can you do?

I recogniced one of Mary's security detail as a female PET officer.

I am a bit uncomfortable with what you say, mulher. would mary be there should she not have married the crown prince? would she really be heard at the UN had that not happened?
most likely not. this is not to say that mary's involvement with her chosen causes is not good, but let's face it... what's the proportion of 'normal' people who could achieve the same level of notoriety without the kind of 'push' mary had?
i'm more comfortable with getting inspiration who really achieved things because of their own merits and efforts, rather than because of marrying well. and i think, personally that's what young girls should be inspired by (women CEOs, researchers, scientists and the like).

I understand what you mean, Carlota.

I should perhaps have put it like this: Mary, the marketings executive, also had the potential to do what Mary, the Crown Princess, is doing. But I doubt she would have realised it herself or perhaps even dared realise it.
We all have an unused potential inside us as far as our abillities go, but the biggest enemy against us in going all the way is ourselves.
In that way she's an inspiration.

And I disagree with you in the last part of your post. Mary has worked hard to get where she is now as a Crown Princess in the mind of the Danes.
The respect and the popularity she has gained has not been achieved for free. That only happens in fairy tales.

Summary of two articles in Billed Bladet #12, 2014.
Written by our man in New York, the Ulrik Ulriksen.

Mary dropped by Madeliene while she was in New York.
Towards the very end, Mary found time to say hello to the happy couple and have a look at now four weeks old Leonore. Mary confirmed the visit: "Yes, I had time for a brief visit". But that was expected because mary had said early on: "Together with the Danish delegation I have had a very tight scehdule, so there hasn't been time to visit Princess Madeleine yet. But I hope to see the little one soon.
However, all new mothers have their hands full in the first period with a baby, so Princess Madeleine probably has plenty to see to, and then one shouldn't disturb too much. But I have of course made sure a greeting was send to Princess Madeleine".

Even though our reporter and photographer took up position in front of the house where M&C live and saw the happy coupld air their baby and dog, he apparantly didn't see Mary. But he mentions that a motorcade with President Obama passed while Mary was visiting. - That must have kept him entertained in the bitter cold.

But back to Mary's work.
One of the last items on the agenda was a meeting with representatives of the US National Hemophilia Foundation. That took place at Bryant Park Hotel.
Here Mary had a char with some of the children who suffer from the condition. Including nine year old Christopher Ambrosia, who sported a big swelling on his hand, caused by a simple bump. He is not just getting a simple bruise like everybody else, but develops a big swelling. Mary asked to his swelling and the two of them had a good chat about sports, Christophers likes to swim.
A parent who looked on said to our reporter: "She's a very stylish and enchanting woman. You can be proud of your Crown Princess".

After the last meeting at UN, Mary rushed to the airport and took off two hours later.

- A flight between New York and Copenhagen takes some six hours IRRC, and arriving five hours before the gala at Christiansborg, she would hardly have had time to sit down at all. Especially as she would have needed a bath, say hello to her children, get dressed, get on her war paint and having her hair fixed.
Unless Mary belongs to those fortunate people who sleep soundly onboard an airplane.

thank you Muhler
Tight schedule for Mary, not only in NY but also right before the gala. She also had to give a kiss to the hubby

Hopefully she was able to fall asleep on the plane; I am one of those fortunate people who sleeps soundly on planes, trains, etc...I once fell asleep on the city bus and woke up in another part of town, way beyond my stop LOL

Lovely summaries. Thank you.

carlota and Muhler - an interesting exchange. Yes you are right Muhler, Mary has really hit her stride so to speak and using this stage of her life (slotted between having babies and becoming consort) to become far more accomplished and polished in her role.

It is true that most of us find it difficult to imagine whether we too could develop and achieve on a world stage if we were given the same opportunity to marry a crown prince/princess simply because we haven't married royalty. I believe many people could achieve such things if given the same coaching/preparation/guidance/mentoring of a royal household.

But Mary needs credit too. She hasn't taken the easy road and become a giggly clothes horse. She does her homework and picks challenging causes.

Aside from love, Frederik too must have seen Mary's inner strength and capabilities and realised this lady had what it took, both as a life partner and consort.
