Crown Princess Mary is the honorary patron of the University of Tasmania's 125th anniversary celebrations in 2015: Crown Princess Mary honorary patron of University’s 125th birthday - Alumni & Friends - University of Tasmania, Australia
Quote:
The University of Tasmania is pleased to announce alumna, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, as the Honorary Patron of the University's 125th Anniversary Celebrations, which commence next year.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark: "As a former graduate and from a family with strong ties to the University, it is with great pleasure that I serve as Honorary Patron of the University of Tasmania's 125th Anniversary Celebration. Like each of you, the University holds a special place in my heart, and I applaud the initiative to celebrate this notable Anniversary Year."
|
It very probably means she (and Frederik and children) will make a trip down to Tasmania during next year. A good guess would be participation in the 125th anniversary combined with a private family visit

When did Crown Princess Mary first become involved with Children, Youth & Grief?

The patronage for this organisation was announced in December 2013.
But already back in 2006 Mary attended a conference about small children and grief which was organised by the Danish Cancer Association.

Mr Walter Mikac, father of Alannah and Madeline, and who also lost his wife in the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania, has had to speak out following comments from a senator calling for the people of Australia to be able to carry concealed weapons after the Sydney Siege of last week.
There was a massive buy-back of guns by the Federal Government following Port Arthur, and in the following eighteen years we did not have any mass killings in this country.
In the eighteen years prior to Port Arthur there were thirteen mass killings here.
Wonderful that he has spoken out - and I'm sure no Australians feel the need to follow the ideas of the senator.
(We've been hearing about Sweden's zero tolerance laws, and the resulting low crime rates there. That's the way most Australians want Oz to go I think.)

School starts back in NSW tomorrow, and the Alannah and Madeline Foundation has a half page advertisment, with their sponser NAB, in today's most popular Sydney newspaper.
"Verbal abuse is the most common form of bullying in Australia".
Someone had a smart idea to get this out there at this time.

Thanks, Iceflower
Royalista has an article about the event: Mary applauds new app aimed at African women | Royalista
Telling about an app especially developed for pregnant African women.
- Africa, south of Sahara, skipped a generation in tele communication. In the late 80's Africa was on the verge of investing hugely in a traditional (albeit digital) telephone network with wires and all. But then the mobile became widespread so no cables needed, in fact the mobile is admirably suited for Africa, not least rural Africa. So an app is a logical step now that the mobile networks are reaching pretty far.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #18, 2015.
Written by Henrik Salling.
Recently Mary attended the 10th anniversary of the Maternity Foundation in Copenhagen and that occasion was also used to launch a new app about safe childbirth and it is aimed at women in Africa in general, especially south of Sahara. And in particular health care personnel.
It is an interesting fact that more in Africa have access to a working smart phone that to running tap water. As such apps are ideal means to reach a large audience.
The purpose is the reduce the appalling number of women who die giving birth.
The app has been developed by an obstetrician (you know birth doctor) at Odense University Hospital.
You can read about the app at maternity.dk or get the app at Apple's ap store "safe delivery".
At the event Mary met a number of people involved in the Maternity Foundation or otherwise involved in the projects in connection with the foundation. Among them Feyisa Gudeta, who is project manager in Ethiopia and as such has a firt hand knowledge of the problems.
- And that folks was all for this week. - I hope it wasn't too dry to read nor too boring.

Dress and bling-bling alert!
Kronprinsesse Mary skal overrække mode-talentpris | billedbladet.dk
Mary will take part in various events during the fashion week in Copenhagen next week.
So she will be wearing fashionable outfits and no doubt new jewellery as well - in her capacity as patron and "royal catwalk-model".
Hmm. Just to be on the safe side: No, the article does not say Mary is to walk the catwalk, I just mean that she will be a walking advertisement for Danish fashion.

This afternoon, Crown Princess Mary will be in charge of opening the YMCA Soldiers transition housing for veteran families:
Information from the royal court:
Åbning af KFUMs Soldaterhjems udslusningsboliger for veteranfamilier - Kongehuset
"The homes are located near the YMCA Veteran home in Høvelte, and belongs under the YMCA Soldiers Mission which the Crown Princess is patron of. It's possible for previously deployed soldiers to live in the apartments with their families for up to three years. It gives them the opportunity to live in a community with other veterans and to live in a place where employees can provide support to help veterans."
