The Bambi one was a konckout. By a danish designer correct?
and to add that to that gorgeous dress was a proud and handsome husband by her side : )

The white/delicate pink dress is my clear favorite. And the Bambi dress. Mary has a radiance that makes it's always Mary who comes with the outfit and not vice versa.

Wow what beautiful photos. Mary always looks perfect from top to bottom. I agree about her radiance but I admit she is my favourite royal

the pictures are beautiful, Mary is impeccable as usual, but why does a 40 year old woman, who has the best nutrition, cosmetics and makeup artists available have so many wrinkles? I am a 40 something mother of 5, I cant remember when I last had a facial and love eating chocolates, yet I have much less wrinkles than she...take this pic for example: http://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelige...-2014#slide-13

Genetics plays a role as well and Mary grew up in a sunny climate.

Her skin is very fair, and the shelf life for that type of complexion is exceedingly brief. Especially if the majority of time was spent in the sun. Crinkles around the eyes can start appearing as early as the late 20's. Was Mary ever a smoker? Because cigarette smoke and nicotine are death to a good complexion in the long run.

To her credit ,at least she has not injected her face full of fillers or as in a couple of cases completely surgically altered her face to the point that she is nearly unrecognizable from her engagement photos.

i think her skin is beautiful, but it's true she has a fair amount of wrinkle lines around her eyes. although in her defense, she spent the vast majority of her last 10+ years smiling to people during her royal events, almost every day so i guess that affects the skin around your eyes when you have prominent cheekbones like mary does.
her make up is always flawless, i loved how nicely made up she was some days ago at the new year court. i wonder what products she uses. some time ago (early in her marriage) she was quoted saying she used ole henriksen products.

I suggest you have someone take pictures of you when you are outside and the lighting is not so goodthat is where all the pictures that don't look so flattering are taken. After 40, lighting is everything!

Its funny how we all see different things. One color is good, no it washes her out. Perfect makeup, no too much. Different strokes...I always thought Mary had beautiful skin. Not perfect but who need perfect!!!
Happy New Year!!!

Mary does wear a lot of makeup, but so do Maxima, Letizia, and others. After all, they know they are going to be photographed. As some have said, harsh lighting will bring out all the flaws. And what used to be called ''laugh lines'' are now called ''crow's feet.'' Too bad. I think Mary looks pretty darn good for being almost 43!

That being said, no one is complaining about Frederik's wrinkles! But it's different with men; they become ''weathered'', ''distinguished'' and ''mature.'' Life just isn't always fair to women...sigh.

Frederik and Mary and their kids are outdoor lovers. We know she jogs regularly and we've seen the family enjoying the outdoors whether it be the beach, skiing or just biking through what looks like a cold and blustery Copenhagen. Sun and wind can wreak havoc on the skin. I agree with Moonmaiden, its nice to see someone who hasn't given themselves over to the plastic surgeons.

Still, In my book smile and laugh lines are a mark of a well-lived life.

BB this week has an article comparing Mary and Queen Ingrid.

Here the two ladies are wearing the same ruby parure:
https://app.box.com/s/facu0ezget7g362960zh7rocpphaxsh0
https://app.box.com/s/r3zb4vys4kqu6g6qngwreb8rzmlpvzu5

Here with Princess Margrethe aged two and Prince Vincent also at two years old.
https://app.box.com/s/19lg0n7csylk5gs9ijelrj1ufajqpwjq
The later Frederik IX met his Ingrid when she was 25. While the future Frederik X met his Mary when she was 28.

Here as cover models in BB 75 years apart and with Princess Anne-Marie and Prince Christian 60 years apart.
Mary lost her mother when she was 25, Princess Ingrid her mother when she was ten.
Both had to learn a new language, Danish. (And Queen Ingrid had a harder time as she was Swedish, Denmark's arch enemy and a country we have been at war with about once in every generation since Sweden became a nation until 1814). Queen Ingrid took on Southern Jutland as her main cause, while Mary has involved herself in social issues.
https://app.box.com/s/up8bcunp4zi3f407axqrv20w0y06rzwq

Here on holiday with the family.
Both have had a steady rise in popularity. (In fact Mary has had a much easier time than Queen Ingrid or rather Crown Princess Ingrid had back in the 1930's! Mary became immensely popular within a year or at most two years. while Queen Ingrid only became really popular or rather tremendously respected during and especially after WWII).
In both cases they transformed their husbands from being somewhat immature men insecure of their role into confident and loving husbands and fathers.
Queen Ingrid was a vital support for Frederik in his youth. Today he has Mary.

Nice article and pictures - Thank you, Muhler. It says that ''Queen Ingrid took on South Jutland as her main cause.'' Was it a depressed and/or neglected area? On one of Rick Steves' travel shows he toured Jutland, and it looked lovely and rural.

You are welcome MidwestMom and Royal Rob.

No, the duchies of Holsten/Holstein and Slesvig/Schleswig became German after the Danish defeat in the Second Scleswigan War in 1864. That was an extremely traumatic defeat, very much comparable to the Confederate feelings in the decades after the defeat in the Civil War in 1865.
Well, on top of that the ethnic Danes in predominantly Schleswig/Slesvig suddenly found themselves in German uniform fighting in WWI and that cost the lives of several thousand ethnic Danes not to mention those who had been maimed.
In 1920 the northern half of Schleswig/Slesvig returned to Denmark after a referendum. However, the wounds in what is now Southern Jutland were still raw after decades of being under German rule. These were the issues then Crown Princess, later Queen Ingrid helped healing and soothe and she became very much loved in Southern Jutland, living for long periods of the year at Gråsten Manor.
To this day Southern Jutlanders tends to be more patriotic tha the rest of the country. - They know how it is to lose their country so their sense of national identity is very strong.

Southern Jutland and Holstein/Holsten as well is in fact very fertile and has always been wealthy. I have learned over the years from foreigners wishing to learn Danish that the Southern Jutlandic accent is the easiest to understand.

OK, now I understand why that was important to Queen Ingrid. She sounds like an intelligent and sensible woman.

My ancestry is German, so it's interesting to me to learn these things. I have bought from Amazon.com two books ''Darkness Over Denmark'' and ''A Conspiracy of Decency'' about the WW2 resistance and the rescue of Danish Jews. I haven't read the first one at all, and have only just started on the second one. I do most of my reading in the summer at the park or on my deck, so it may take a while.
