 That's exactly what it is.
Mary is basically encouraging young people to reach out to those among them, they believe are lonesome or feel isolated. A simple "How are you?" makes a difference.
There is however one issue in regards to the feeling of isolation and loneliness that the Mary Foundation has not yet addressed:
Get off your backside!
If you want company and friends you need to do an effort. No one is going to kick your door in and drag you away to do something with other people.
And you don't get friends by sitting in a corner, saying nothing.
- That's a problem we had with a close relative of mine. He moved to an elder center to find company. But ended up being alone a lot, because he was passive.
It's a tricky issue. I don't know how Mary could address that in a tactful manner.

A good campaign film from the Mary Foundation. Which is filmed in a modern way to capture young people’s interest.
As always, a eloquent and expressive Crown Princess Mary.
And the campaign is important!
The Mary Foundation's analyzes show that 12% of Denmark's young people feel seriously lonely. Ouch, that’s many!
The campaign is launching today with various films and will run on the social media where the young people are.
The Crown Princess and The Mary Foundation does a innovative and fantastic work.

Hasn't she though? The campaign offers advice to what people can do in general to be more aware of their surroundings, yes. But there's also a handful of motivations to the people who feel lonely: Talk to your parents/friends/someone you trust, gather the courage to do something about it, reach out to people you're comfortable with or organisations who have concrete offers to combat social isolation.
I think the reason the video focuses on what we, as a society, can do to combat loneliness is 1. that it's aimed at the general public and not the people who experience loneliness in particular; and 2. that we've reached a point where, with an estimated 12% of all youths feeling lonely, it becomes more and more evident that it's a societal issue sooner than an individual issue.
Yes, everything would be easier if everyone were outgoing and it's not rocket science that you need to make some type of effort yourself. But to offload the entire responsibility on the people who are lonely isn't just largely ineffective (after all, that has been the general approach to the issue for god knows how long and social isolation has only increased), it's also super detrimental.

Yeah, I guess that's the most tactful way of putting it, or rather the most tactful way Mary can put it, for those where a kick in the butt is the best remedy.

I think that's a fundamental misunderstanding of the point they're trying to get across. It's not that they're shying away from telling people that they need to make an effort. It's that that logic – that you just need to pull yourself together – has been the recommended cure for years which means the growing number of people who continue to feel lonely essentially proves it ineffective.
Mary says it in the video: "We need to understand the reasons for and the consequences of loneliness. What it is in our society that makes more and more young people struggle." A whopping 12% of all young people experiencing severe loneliness is clearly symptomatic of a societal issue that goes beyond the "they just don't make an effort" argument.

Very true.
It's a complex subject, that is not just solved by being invited into a group for example or joining a group, say a sports club.
Some people for example are introvert and/or very shy and for them going to town or being a part in a larger company is an agony - especially if it involves drinking.
And some people are - to be brutally honest - weird. I.e. they have poor and/or awkward social skills. Or they have a character that is difficult. - For whatever reason.
There is also another thing, that is not defined in the survey you referred to: What is the definition of loneliness?
To me that would be not having something I can be totally at ease with and confide in. - Spouse and parents don't count.
For you and for other it may be something else.
It's a great cause Mary is supporting. And not one with ready made solutions.

When several of our events that physically bring people together are not possible, we must think creatively today and into the future so that that part of our work can continue without compromising our joint health.*Among other things, we have*recently done with the campaign fåøjepåensomhed.dk.

Today, Crown Princess Mary tells in a video about the Mary Foundation’s backpacks which the Mary Foundation is sending out to our crisis centres these days:
"2 out of 3 shelters in Denmark often or very often experience that the children arrive without their belongings.
according to a survey conducted by Epinion for the Mary Foundation.
Nearly 2,000 children come to the shelter each year, and many of them come to the shelter without their toys, clothes and other belongings.
Together with LOKK - National Organization of Women's Shelters and Ole Kirk's Foundation, we distribute backpacks to the children to cover practical needs, but the backpacks are also used as a pedagogical tool by the staff at the shelters.
This week they are sent out to shelters in Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands."
You can see the video of CP Mary telling here:
(A very relaxed Crown Princess Mary who, in a flawless Danish, informs about the Mary Foundation's work with the backpacks. They are also sending to Greenland and Faorese Islands)

Added: It is such a good job from the Mary Foundation, and I know (and can read from the comments under the post on the Mary Foundation's Facebook page) that these bags are an invaluable help and importance for both parents and children when they arrives to shelters.
It is a lovely video with a very relaxed Crown Princess Mary who, in a flawless Danish, informs about the Mary Foundation's work with the backpacks as they is sending them out these days.
I would so much wish the Danish Royal Family shared these videos of the Mary Foundation's work on their giant social media platforms. And I don’t understand why they don’t.
IMO, this is some of the work CP Mary is most loved for, and it is perhaps the work in DRF that helps and reaches the ordinary Dane the most, but for reasons the DRF almost never shares the great and important work CP Mary does in the Mary Foundation. It's a shame IMO because I sense people's knowledge about the work of the Mary Foundation is declining - and it's clear when the DRF almost never shares Mary's work in the Mary Foundation on their giant social media platforms.
You can say the Mary Foundation shares their work on their own canals and that's good, but their social platforms do not reach that many, and I can only see the great social work of the Mary Foundation is a big plus for the DRF and CP Mary.
And the more people this important work reach the better. The more who know there is good help at our crisis centre the better. The more who knows even our Crown Princess see them and are ready with support are better. Especially in a hard time for people who must escape to crisis centres.

This is very admirable work Crown Princess Mary and her foundation have taken up especially during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Another unofficial event which is not written in the calendar either.
Yesterday a meeting with young people in the Mary Foundation:
”Yesterday, in the Mary Foundation, we had a visit from our youth panel to talk about the well-being of young people during the corona. And not least about ideas and recommendations for solutions.
It was an inspiring and intense conversation about how corona and the restrictions that have come with it have had a huge impact on young people's lives. I was particularly touched by the young people's consideration and compassion for some of the groups who are having the most difficulty and who feel most lonely at this time. And I was very uplifted by their many ideas for what we can do - both to fight loneliness and create well-being among young people in the time to come.
- H.R.H. The Crown Princess”

Mary with the Mary foundation today
Helsingør Swimming Club is one of the swimming clubs that use the Antibully Swimming initiative, which has been developed in a collaboration between the Mary Foundation and the Danish Swimming Union. The purpose of Antibully Swimming is to promote the feeling of togetherness and combat bullying in children's swimming.

Good pictures from the Mary Foundation / Steen Brogaard:

It’s a quite unique work that the Mary Foundation does because it really is for the general public and ordinary Dane. To give a example: Just one of the HRH Crown Princess Mary’s projects in the Mary Foundation "Free from Bullying" is integrated in over 50% of Denmark's kindergartens and school/school clubs. Did you know that? Our children grow up with a helping project in their daily life which their Crown Princess is behind.
In addition to Free from Bullying there are other good projects that help vulnerable and lonely Danes:
- Together without violence
- Easy Read
- A lovely talk
- Backpacks for the Danish crisis shelters
- The public movement against loneliness
- Network
- Etc.
On the Mary Foundation’s social media you can often read comments like this:
“When I came to the crisis shelter with my son last year we were welcomed with a bag from the Mary Foundation and a greeting from H.R.H. Crown-Princess Mary. It also contained the most important things such as toothbrush, teddy bear, diary, etc. It meant so much! To stand there in the most difficult place in your life and feel SO small and then know that your crown princess 'sees you’z My son drew a drawing and sent it back to crown princess Mary. When we had to move out, the Mary Foundation was also ready with financial advice and guidance for us to move forward. It meant so much in a difficult time! Thank you to our crown princess and everyone in the Mary Foundation. You make a difference.”
Nice pictures from DM.
Mary look wonderful sporty - I love seeing her in these kinds of events - the sporty aussie Mary And she always beams a little extra on visits with her Foundation, doesn’t she?

If not this is genuine joy.
When CP Mary inaugurated Bridewalking in Middelfart back in 2015, it was the veteran car driver, John Andersen, who is chairman of the Danish Veteran Car Club who stood ready with his yellow veteran car to drive Mary (actually Mary was allowed to drive the car herself) back over the bridge after having bridewalked.
This week the veteran car driver John Andersen again stood ready to drive Mary back over the bridge in his yellow veteran and Mary easily remembed John and the Crown Princess was clearly happy to see him again.
