Article: Casual style: Mary takes Silkeborg by storm
Afslappet tøjstil: Mary tager Silkeborg med storm | mja.dk

"Beautiful and relaxed. As usual - welcoming and smiling.
So simple can Crown Princess Mary be described. Saturday after noon she came to Silkeborg in connection with his involvement in anti-bullying - and she takes Silkeborg by storm. In jeans, Handball and a sports shirt she started to show handball exercises that help combat bullying in team sports."

Article:
Mary: - Håndboldspillere i Silkeborg er dygtige til anti-mobning | mja.dk

"It was one relaxed, big-smiling crown princess Mary who visited Silkeborg with Mikkel Hansen to focus on anti-bullying in handball.

Denmark's Crown Princess Mary showed to be in excellent form, and she took her time to play handball with the local boys and girls when she today visited Vestergade Hall.

It didn't took long time from her arrival to the Crown Princess jumped in her sports clothes and sneakers and left her own clothes on the floor in the hall so she could play with the local boys and girls from Silkeborg."

Thanks.

She was well featured on the main news tonight as well.
It is estimated that one in three children who attend some sort of activity in their free-time, feel excluded.
One in eight of the fifth graders have dropped attending a sport or similar activity due to bullying.

So Mary and Mikkel Hansen (as well as others I presume) have implemented various excersizes in the warming up and general training in the various sports clubs that enhance the feeling of being part of a group and also enhance the sense of being included. In the sense that you don't exclude or bully those you know well.

ADDED: A DR1 video: http://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/vid...en-mod-mobning

- I'm interested to see if Mary will join her husband tonight, because Silkeborg is located half an hours drive from the town of Herning.

Yeah you could be right Muhler, on the other hand, it's Vincent and Josephine's birthday tomorrow morning, so maybe mom will hurry home to them (that's maybe a mother thing, I think )

What great coverage. Thanks for all the links.
Mary looks fantastic in jeans. Great that she continues to work in this area of anti bullying. We saw it on the soccer fields and now the handball courts.

Summary of a Q&A in Billed Bladet #15, 2017.
Where a Holger Jensen would like to know where the fonds in the Mary Foundation comes from.

Jon Bloch Skipper explains that the foundation gets most of its means from donations by large companies and foundations, among them Carlsberg and Lego.
The administrative expenses are covered by the Hempel Foundation, which also provides offices.

On top of that a number of pro-bono partners contribute with free services. - These are mainly advertising agencies and lawyers.
Smaller donations go in full into the means the foundation use for its purposes, which is fighting social isolation in it's many facets. Primarily bullying, domestic abuse and loneliness.

- The donations, rooms and free work for the foundation is as you know also tax-deductible.

Mary's been on the job today: Kronprinsesse Mary mødte ensomme på Nørrebro | BILLED-BLADET

She went to a place in Copenhagen where lonely people from all walks of life can dine together and as such find new friends or simply company.
There are such places in 21 towns dotted all over DK.
It's chilly these days so Mary felt sorry for the freezing flowergirl who was standing outside to present her with a bouquet. "Let's go inside, your are cold".
The project, which has considerable success (not least among people who are new to a town, like students to a university and who don't feel they fit in the normal student activities. i.e. often people who are introvert) is run by Red Cross.

Thanks, Iceflower

If the smile on the flowergirl's head was any wider, the top of her head would drop off.
Her headpiece is interesting, reminds me of the traditional Easter European/Russian/Ukrainian peasant-girl decoration. - Or am I completely off the mark here?

You aren't

How many Crown Princesses meets up to eat her dinner with lonely people?
It's a great project from the Mary Foundation. Way to many Danes feel lonely in our country. Terribly many, in fact ...

Thank you, Roskilde
The most interesting bit is the evaluation the project has made based on what I presume is a survey among those who have attended such dinners.

Basically two out of three feel they have become less lonely, have begun to build up a network and feel they have become better at establishing social contacts and interacting in social contexts.

A long and interesting article by Politiken: Med kronprinsessen på social visit, hvor opskriften på livsmod bliver jagtet - politiken.dk

IMO it's always interesting to learn about the people who are directly affected by the projects the royals support. In this case loneliness as was the case with Mary's recent visit to a center where lonely people meet.

First a little about the project "værket". Værket is pretty tricky to translate. It can mean a creation or a job that has been completed, a job well done. It can also mean the plant (as in an industrial plant.)
On top of that the word can mean aching. - Confused? So am I!

Værket, the Job from now on, is aimed at people age 30-60 and it is ru by the Red Cross.
In 20 places all over DK some 10-12 people meet every two weeks for a communal meal. Here they also practice their social skills in a safe environment, among people who feel just like themselves and who for all sorts of reasons are lonely.
They are also given tools to help improving their social skills, which is also very much about building up self-confidence and self-esteem. And hopefully gain new friends and building a network.

It is estimated that some 100.000 people in DK aged 30-60 feel lonely to an extent that it is debilitating. The irony of the whole thing being that lonely people often feel more lonely when they are together with other people, so that means it's easier to isolate yourself.

One of the people Mary met and dined with at the Job, was 38 year old Charlotte Jensen, mother to a teenage son.
In 2016 she googled loneliness and this is how she got involved with the Job.
And now she was sitting at the same table with Mary. In the photo top of the article Charlotte Jensen is seen talking to Mary. - Who poured water up for her and later offered her chocolate with nuts. Alas Charlotte Jensen is allergic to nuts... that made everyone laugh and broke the ice.

During the visit Mary said: "We are after all pack-animals- Being outside the pack is the worst that can happen to a person. The American professor John Cacioppo, who was present at the first conference aboyt this project used the image with the penguins. They have a system, so that the constantly circle and take turn taking the cold spot on the outside, before they can get into the center again. Only that way everyone can survive. Loneliness is something you can die from, if it becomes a permanent condition. Also in our culture".

Charlotte Jensen explains what they do when they meet. It's all headed by volunteers, who are not professional therapists or psychologists. In this place it's headed by a volunteer named Joan. - Who set up the topics for conversations, head party games and so on.
"We call Joan mother. Because that's how it is. She's ready with a hug and a kiss, just like we in the group are really glad to see each other. It means a tremendous lot. I've felt that from the first meeting. That I felt welcome. There wasn't the distance that I otherwise felt to other people.
It surprised me how much I got out of it (the meetings), so quickly. I can tell that I've become more open at my job and I dare say what I think. I'm not nearly as afraid to say something wrong as I used to be".

Another women at the meeting was 53 year old Monica Skön, who is now coming out of a deroute that started with a divorce nine years ago.
"I've learned to live in the present. I've learned that a rejection doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you. And for me it all started when I learned to share my loneliness with others. Then it wasn't loneliness anymore and then freed ourselves from the taboo.
But the most important things is that I've learned to deal with being with other people in a much more natural way".

But back to the dinner. At some point it became to much for Charlotte Jensen. Tears began streaming down her face and she had to leave the table. She was comforted by Joan and was able to return to the table and Mary.

When Mary had left a blushing Charlotte Jensen said: "I could be myself. It's nice finally being able to rest within yourself".

Monica Skön said: "I simply told about myself without considering whether I said something wrong. Just like we have been taught in the group".

- A good day and a little victory for both ladies.

The next project within the group is to establish relations outside the job. That means they will go to a cafe and here each will be tasked with chatting up a stranger. - That should be a surmountable task after having had Crown Princess Mary at the table, as the article points out.

- I hope you made it this far. I try and make these looong summaries as easy to read as possible and hopefully not too boring.

-----------------

And here are the BB scans for this week, better late than never, eh?

Crown Princess Mary participated in the packing of the Mary Fund's backpacks again today, May 23. The event took place at LEGOLAND in Billund.

Since 2008 all children at shelters in Greenland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands get a backpack with practical necessities and toys.

A good video of Mary packing the many backpacks:

*****

A good article:
Kronprinsesse Mary pakkede rygsække til krisecentre | Billund | jv.dk

Every year since 2008 has the Mary Foundation packed 2,300 thousands backpacks to the children at Denmark's crisis centers.

Mary said today:

- It's quite basic things we packs in their backpacks, because children in shelters are often escaped with their mother without getting anything with them. In the backpack, there is the most necessary and things that the emergency shelters can use for the difficult conversation, so children can start with a necessary healing process.

Mary helped packing all the many thousands backpacks and there was a relaxed and good atmosphere.

There was no reasons to be nervous. Crown Princess Mary is so easy to talk with, she is so straightforwardly, said Ingelise Damgaard, who after 26 years at Lego retired five years ago and since she has helped to pack the Mary Foundation's backpacks.

Inge Bladt has been a legonist for eight years and is "accompanying wife" to a man who worked for Lego for 42 years. She was happy with the task of packing with the Crown Princess.

"She is very interesting to talk to and this is a nice and important project," she said.

I'm always struck by how uniformly positive all different kinds of people are in their descriptions about Mary. She goes out of her way to make people feel at ease, she's easy to talk to, she's knowledgeable, etc. When you think about it, Mary took a risk when she decided to become so deeply involved with her various initiatives. There's no hiding who you really are when you sit down with people for an hour or so and actually talk to them. And I think the risk paid off given how respected and loved she's become in Denmark.
