Summary of article in Billed Bladet #42, 2014.
Written by Marianne Singer.
Recently Mary visited the Tietgen Business High School in Odense, where she gave a speech about loneliness.
High-schools in DK lasts three years and Mary only spoke to the freshmen but still there were 500 of them.
She said: "I experienced myself the passing loneliness when I was young and lost my mother. I felt utterly alone with my grief and that was a very strong feeling (*) - but it past. The loneliness quietly subsided as I worked on my grief.
The longlasting lonelisness is not determined by the situation but is a sense of want - the want for companionship and closeness (to other people). And when loneliness get stuck and become a part of the daily life it becomes dangerous to us at the same time.
Lasting loneliness diminishes our quality of life and shorten our lifespan - and is just as harmful as smoking fifteen cigarettes a day. That's why we must take loneliness serious. You have chosed to do that here at Tiegten Business High School. By working together as a community you prevent loneliness. Because if you all settle in, no one drops out.
Stick to each other, stick to the good partnership and in the good class cameraderie".
(*) My guess is that Mary's siblings were married back then. For many, if not must, having a spouse to share or offload your grief on can be a tremendous help, while on th other hand you may feel outside if you don't have a spouse and those nearest and dearest to you have. - I lost my mother suddenly when I was 24 and that was before Mrs Muhler was even in the horizon, while my sisters were married. While I didn't feel like Mary, I can well understand what she means.

Under the heading 'It Nice to be Nice' DR Ultra invites to premiere on the Ultra Gala show on Friday the 21th November in Horsens. The Mary Foundation and DR Ultra (our Danish children's/youth TV channel) have together made a film about having the courage to be a good friend. The film will be shown for the first time to the show. Mary was invited already back in summer. See her answer here:
It's the Mary Foundation who has put the clip at their Facebook page and it's a pretty sweet trailer for the upcoming show - it also runs in the commercials on television. I couldn't help, but smile a bit. One of DR's children hosts meets Mary this summer during her 'Free For Bullying relay':
Q: Are you (informal, but neither F+M seem to care) so a real Princess?
M: I don't know, but I'm at least married to a real Prince.
Q: Are you coming to Ultra Gala?
M: I have been invited and I very much hope I can come, but I'm not quite sure if I can come or not yet.
And now to the fun part...
Q: What should you then?
M: I... don't know...
And the clip sums up with the sound and a "Buuuuut now she knows... Crown Princess Mary comes to Ultra Gala in Horsens November the 21th. Look forward"

New project in the Mary Foundation and a very good and important one IMO.
Mary and The Mary Foundation collaborates with the Danish Red Cross for a new project: "Network for Adults". The Mary Foundation and the Red Cross cooperation on the new project to support adults who experience lasting loneliness. Loneliness is a large and overlooked problem among adult Danes. The Mary Foundation and the Red Cross will in the new partnership set focus on articulate loneliness among adults, and the focal point of the project will be to bring people together and strengthen them in creating a strong and lasting network. In local branches will people who miss contact with other people could join a network where togetherness and strengthening of the individual network is the focal point.
The Mary Foundation has since 2011 worked with loneliness as one of its three target areas.

I think this is a very important and good cause to work on, because I think there are many more people who are lonely than we might imagine. Also, the reasons why people are lonely are many and varied and some of the issues are deeply complex. Quite often, we only think of lonely people at Christmas, but is it a year -round issue. I am glad Mary Fonden is doing work for this.

More from BB: Kronprinsesse Mary til stor gallafest for børn | Billed Bladet
DR Ultra is a part of the DR1 network. It aims directly at tweens in particular and younger teens in general.
Apart from various entertainment it takes up relevant topics like friends or lack of them, bullying, trouble with the parents and siblings, the first crush, the body changing and so on. But it also attempts to take up current issues in the news and presenting and explaining them (though not always unbiased) in a way that children may better understand.
With children as anchors as well as adults in supporting roles it aims to be more on eye-level with children.
Also, some of the programmes are used in many schools afterwards as a part of teaching and debating general issues.
Does it work? Not sure, at least for the tweens perhaps, but judging from my youngest who is thirteen, she's getting a bit too old for Ultra now I think. Certainly the guy standing next to Mary, is not her cup of tea! Can't say I blame her, he's over the top and downright silly IMO, but he may appeal to the youngest viewers.

The comments to the post are charming, obviously being from children.
The question to the post is: What would you ask Crown Princess Mary if you met her?
One girl would ask her whether she likes to be in DK.
Another how it feels having everyone following everything she's doing.
A third whether she likes being Crown Princess here in DK.
Yet another girl would like her autograph.
A boy would like a billion pictures of her.
A girl would like to know about her hair.
Several would simply like to know how it is to be a princess.
A boy who may have misunderstood something, believing she's from New Zealand, would simply like to know what she's doing on a day to day basis.
ADDED: Here is gallery from the gala party: http://vafo.dk/gallery/JM/20141122/A...2109999/2#Body
The party ended around 21.30.
At the party was a girl, named Freja from the town of Vejle, who had looked so much forward to meeting Mary that she had hardly slept the night before. Fortunately Freja wasn't disappointed.

Indeed Roskilde, a very relevant introduction to what it's really all about.
Mary asked whether you (the children) can remember the last annual class-photo.
And said it's a picture about courage, because in each photo there some girls and boys who stand up and say no to bullying, who are good mates.
Because in every class there are two or three, who feel alone, bullied or otherwise outside and who dread going to school each day.
It takes courage to stand up to bullying. The fear of who's next to be bullied, the fear of taking the first step, the fear of confronation, but good mates, real mates stand up.
- That was the essence of her message and it was good, short, to the point and I think it will be listened to.

Great news for our children - and yet another sign of how well the Mary Foundation's "Free of Bullying" works:
The Mary Foundation communicate on their Facebook Page:
We are very delighted that the Municipality of Copenhagen has just announced they will offer 'Free of Bullying' free to all municipal kindergartens, schools and youth centers. The first professionals will attend courses in December. "When the City of Copenhagen goes in and work strategically and across the daycare facilities and schools with 'Free of Bullying' you create the best possible framework for efforts to prevent bullying. This also ensures the important transition from kindergarten to school will be safe for the children because they face the same social rules and the same language about being a good friend - no matter where they are," says Helle Østergaard, director of the Mary Foundation in this press release:

Recently Mary hosed a Christmas reception for various persons who co-operate with the Mary Foundation at home at Amalienborg.
Almost 100 guests were present and were served glögg and æbleskiver http://jejsing.infoland.dk/wp-conten...6bleskiver.jpg
The reception took place in the hall with tapestries.
The tapestries were incidentally damaged a few years ago, when they were washed in Belgium but they have now been restored.

Mary wishes a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in her annual newsletter from The Mary Foundation. Here she talks about the year that has passed - and it has been a busy year for the Mary Foundation with many new initiatives. For example has the municipality of Copenhagen decided that the Mary Foundation's 'Free of Bullying' shall be implemented in all of Copenhagen's municipal schools, kindergartens and clubs.
"I have personally had the great pleasure of meeting with many different people throughout the year. Alma and Karl from 0.V at Sundbyvester School who explained what care is and how one use the Buddy Bear to show care for each other. Astrid, who after several years in a violent relationship found the courage to ask for help and called the 'Mothers Help' where she was met with support and advice. Joachim from 1.g at Tietgen Business College who explained that if it hadn't been for 'Netwerk' he had dropped out of high school. Among many others. In the encounter one is blessed - especially when we meet others with openness, intimacy and respect. "
One of the meetings that I found most touching - it's really strong words:
A lonely male participant who Mary met on the occasion of the Mary Foundation next year will launch a new project for loneliness. He described his loneliness to Mary this way:
"Eye contact. It happens when two people sitting and looking into each others eyes. A terrible deprivation there was so intense at one point that I found pictures of eyes on the internet to sit and look at eyes. Simply because I missed eye contact... I was alone in the world."

The Mary Foundation has donated 250,000DKK (33,500€ / $AUD48,800 / $USD38,000) to Brothers For Life, a South African organisation who works to reduce violence against women by changing the male role in violent dynamics. Crown Princess Mary visited the organisation during her visit to South Africa in November 2014.
The money is to go towards a pilot project that will work to change violent male behaviour, and get them to resolve conflict without resorting to violence.
Crown Princess Mary issued a statement alongside the donation:
"Violence dynamics involve multiple parties, and therefore it is necessary to look at the problem from several angles. There is obviously a lot of focus on women - and keep it that way - but we must not forget the role of men and their actions. If we want to reduce violence, then we need to look holistically at the problem and not only alleviate but also prevent violence from occurring. Therefore it is crucial also to turn to perpetrators, something Brothers for Life has done skillfully and successfully - to inspire other countries. With The Mary Foundation special donation, the organization gets the opportunity to develop and test some new ways to prevent and address violence against women."

Maryfonden's facebook site give a great opportunity to see just a bit of the work behind the scenes Mary has in her Mary Foundation:
Today, Mary and Helle Østergaard visited 'Dialogue against Violence' and participated in a group session for men who have sought help to stop violent behavior. The visit gave a thoughtful insight into how men can work to handle anger and impotence and thus stop the violence.
