And here is BB's live link: https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelig...r-til-torshavn

Unfortunately TV2's link can't be seen outside DK.

15 minutes to go.

Billed Bladet is live now.

https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelig...r-til-torshavn

Running commentaries in this post.

---------------------
They will be met with salutes and national hymn. Then M&F and children will walk through Thorshavn and at some point the will see a traditional chain-dance.

---------------------------------

There appears to be no live link from Faeroese TV. - But perhaps I'm missing it?

---------------------------

Dannebrog is - not late - royals are never late, the clock is too fast...
But she will moor at the quay a little past 10.

In the meantime the poor Ulrik Ulriksen is doing some serious back-swimming!

--------------------

BB will also send live from M&F arriving at Klaksvig tomorrow forenoon.

---------------------------

Dannebrog is coming in, escorted by local wooden ships and rowing boats.
For those who are not well versed in maritime traditions: You may notice the Faeroese flag is flying from the mast. That's a sign of respect for th country the ship is visiting.

----------------

11 degrees C.
The BB camera woman is swearing - other photographers are in her way!

---------------------------

They are all wearing traditional outfits.

------------------

The sentry has taken up position at the end of the phalarope with drawn cutlass, so any moment now.

-----------------------------

There are altogether 34 items on the agenda during this visit.

--------------------

The family is piped off board and the women, led by Josephine descends at a majestic pace.

------------

BB is closing their live coverage for now. Not being a TV-network I guess it's impractical for them to pace after M&F and set it up with the limited resources they have.

That's the North Atlantic for you.
In literally an hour it may snow! Or be bright and warm sunshine.

Thanks for the pictures, yep, Josephine is now herself, full of mischievous and ready to go.......love those hats the girls are wearing. So cute and wonder if they are hand made with all the tiny flowers in them. I love handmade things like that.....as I like a needle and thread in my hands for I do needlework quite a bit.

Let's talk a little about the national costumes they are wearing today. - Most of the day, because they won't have time to change!

Judging from the style, I'd say it dates back from the early 1700's.
Men and women wear shoes with silver buckles.
The buttons of the men's outfit are made from silver, and such buttons are often presented as a baptism or confirmation gift.

Boys often wear wooden-shoes.

The colors are seemingly a matter of taste and in contrast to Greenland and Denmark apparently not an indication of where you are from and your status (Greenland) or a specific regional outfit (Denmark).

The outfits are expensive!
15-20.000 DKK = 1.800+ £ or 2.000+ € or 2.300+ $

There is a lot of needlework involved, M Payton.

ADDED: The outfits are a present from the Faeroese municipalities.

Here is a short video of a traditional Faeroese chain-dance:

The costumes are quite beautiful, eh?

Some of the songs and sagas dates back to events happening more than a 1.000 years ago, using the expressions and words of the sagas that were written down around 1200 and 1300's.

Here is such a saga (10 minutes) with English subtitles. It's almost hypnotic!
It's about an event in the 900's.
And you'll have plenty of time to look at the costumes...
And listen to what is basically a Viking dialect.

QMII who at least understand a good deal of Faeroese, although she isn't good at conversing in the language, usually sing along with the chorus.

More info on the traditional outfits. All gifts from the Faroe Islands. From the DRF instagram...

The*Crown Princess’ national costume was donated by the Faroe Islands National Assembly and Legislation in 2005 when Her Royal Highness was on her first visit to the Faroe Islands. The traditional costume consists of an apron and scarf of dark green wool and with a marguerite pattern. The matching knitted sweater with snowflakes is in red and black. The silver is designed specifically for the Crown Princess.
Prince Christian’s national costume is a gift from Tórshavn*Municipality and the silver is a gift from the Faroe Islands country council and the Faroe Islands. The vest has an old Faroese pattern and is red and embroidered in purple and yellow flowers with leaves in different green shades.

Too cute. Prince Christian being a gentleman and holding his sister's skirt, preventing it from getting wet when Isabella goes down to greet people

First a huge Thank you to all who make this possible for us here to read and view as I am getting a tour of the Islands here myself.....

Yes Muhler, that last picture is showing a very dignified crown prince and future king doing his work for the people. You can not help but love a man in that type of hat now can you...so very handsome he is.

I am so loving all the pictures and the videos, I actually watched the ring dance, all 9 minutes of it and glad it showed the words to the song, imagine dancing like that for 9 minutes or more........my feet would not handle it today.

Does anyone know the weather there today as I like those capes the ladies are wearing and that big silver buckle on Mary's cape is quite nice.

Now I will just sit back with my tea and cookie and wait for more pictures and videos here......
